I decided to take my wife out to a new, exciting place for her birthday. I decided to give Kindred a try after reading the reviews it received. We were not disappointed. The food was extraordinary, somewhat unique and reasonably priced. The service was superb. In fact, we were served by several people, including our primary server. Each was sincere and dutiful. One of the people that cared for us asked if we had any dietary preferences even before we had an opportunity to look at our menus. When I explained that I was a "pescetarian" he took my menu from me and returned it with every item that was suitable for my dining pleasure identified and those that were not marked off. This is a small plate dining experience, so make certain to try 4-5 items. We selected 4 and it was sufficient.

This is my third visit to Kindred spread out from their opening time to now. I respect their restoration of an old building and their part in revitalizing downtown Davidson as a long time (20 plus years) resident. I am also an experienced cook and enjoy new venues and restaurants. Kindred continues to disappoint me and I have accepted this is just not the style for me beyond grabbing a drink before going elsewhere for dinner. I find the food too salty, my beverage glasses - water or wine sits empty on the table usually twice during the meal all times I have been there, the atmosphere downright loud and not "energetic" as your website says and the food not something I personally enjoy. All of these things could have been improved since the opening.

This was our first visit to Kindred for my husband's birthday, and it did not disappoint! We had recently caught the PBS special "Moveable Feast" featuring Kindred and were thrilled to see they used fresh ingredients from local vendors. We must have ordered at least 10 dishes and we shared everything. The food was delicious and the servings big enough to share but not overwhelming. Our server, Jules, partnered our entrees and paced everything to come out perfectly. Great wine recommendations as well. Oh, and the birthday cake was also spectacular! This was not just a dinner out but an amazing dining experience!!

So this restaurant is very talked about. We are new to the area and were eager to try it. It's small plates of a variety of very different tastes. I think now that we've been, we know now not to just order what sounds good, but think of how it would all fit together. We learned that otherwise, you end up with a varied mix of food that may not necessarily complement each plate, leading to a mixed feeling upon completion. Kind of when you go to a buffet and you eat so many different things that wouldn't necessarily go together. So next time we'll order differently. There were a lot of fried items and heavy carb items. Milk bread is delicious, but it really filled us up. We ordered the Grouper cheeks. They were fried, with a nice crunch, but scarce on the fish I felt and a bit overpowering with the fresh herbs. The Brussel Sprouts tartine, was disappointing. It looked very unappetizing. We almost didn't try it. I can't remember the cheese that was melted on it, but it's white and just looked really unappealing. The taste - too creamy and the bread was very oily. It was way too heavy and rich. We expected some brussel sprouts and instead it was topped just with a few crunchy leaves. The guinea hen pasta was also disappointing. Not very flavorful, bland and the noodles were too al dente. My husband isn't interested in going back. I would try it again, with a more discriminating eye. The service was poor and we were there early evening, before it was busy. Our server never checked back on us after delivering our drinks. We didn't see her again until the end of the meal. Not sure if thats the norm there or not, but it made it hard for me to order another cocktail. I asked the server who gave us a water refill if I could see a wine list and he forgot to bring it to us, so we never got to order. All in all, the meal was disappointing and the atmosphere isn't cozy at all. Considering all of the hype of this restaurant, we were sadly disappointed and felt let down.

I never write reviews but felt compelled after visiting. Kindred really is a gem. The food and drinks were awesome. While I felt the food was a bit on the salty side, the drinks to wash it down with were some of the best I've had in the Charlotte region. You can't go wrong with the Bartender's Choice!

Kindred drives to introduce the patron to unique foods. The Chef does an excellent job incorporating ingredients and balancing flavors. The cuisine does a fantastic job of spurring conversation and making it interesting. I personally think Kindred tries too hard sometimes to make every dish a standout. I have dined in some of the most renowned restaurants in the country and have enjoyed more of a grounded approach from them. This purely my opinion, this is one of my wife's favorite places. P.S. A special shout out to the bartenders who make up the best drinks at the spur of the moment.
