A third-generation Texan well-versed in Tex-Mex cuisine, Killen has developed an immense passion for Mexican ingredients, regional dishes and traditional preparations, which he has studied extensively during his travels.
On our menu, you’ll find both classic Tex-Mex plates enriched with elements of barbecue, as well as Texas-tinged interpretations of Mexican fare, all made with fresh, quality ingredients and elevated through simple techniques. From scratch-made moles and salsas to house-ground corn tortillas, each detail is thoughtfully prepared to create a transportive experience at your table.
We look forward to sharing it with you.
Only complain I have is that the couple behind us complained about the dumbest things. We had a great experience with our meals, server, and drinks. We will definetly be back here!
Service was stellar, loved the ambiance but the food was forgettable. Not bad, but not great.
My family and I went for HRW Brunch. It was amazing! Our server Chris was very attentive. The only downside is the fact that the restaurant is small and they can't really accomodate large parties at 1 table. Other than that, the food is delicious and flavorful. I would also recommend the Sunday brunch buffet!
The buffet options were not that great and they could have at least labeled what each item was. The restaurant seemed warm today for some reason was unable to enjoy the experience. I had to ask for items to be replenished and it did not appear to have a designated staff attending attentively to the buffet. Our server was good and attentive, however this is definitely overpriced for the menu options. I hate to say it but I gave it a 4/10. I would go back but probably for happy hour and do bar bites only. The brisket quesadilla was good my daughter really liked it.
The were participating in Houston Restaurant week so we though we would give them a try. Seated at the bar as we wait for our table, order a drink which we had to find someone to take our order?!, then they come and tell us our table is ready. They said they will bring our drinks to our table. After about 15 minutes we finally get our drinks after I had to ask why was it taking so long. Didn't ask for a tall, but got a tall and there was hardly any ice in it. Had to request a glass of ice BOTH TIMES. Service was so slow. There was a large table but he wasn't waiting on us so I don't know why ours was so slow.
We states off with some brisket queso, that was the only highlight of the meal. It was delicious.
We ordered off the HRW menu Pork belly and Empanadas they were good, nothing special. For the main course we ordered the trio enchilada and the shrimp in a habanero sauce. The shrimp plate came out COLD!, afraid to have to wait longer to get it, my husband picked at it then just took it to go. the trio enchiladas were OK nothing grand. The cheese one was chewy cheese which some restaurants do and it is nasty to me. To me it is like a cheese-stick with enchilada sauce, no thanks. The brisket one had hardly and meat in it. The chicken was the best out of the 2 but I think it had dark meat mixed in which I don't care for. The dessert was tres leche and churros. The churros were crisp and tasty all 2 of them?. the tres leche was ok.
A lot of our review is based on personal taste, but he lack of service, poor cocktail service and the cold food is not excusable in my book. We were very disappointed that we make the drive.
Family decided to go try Killen's TMX for the first time during HRW. Service is great! Our server was very nice. Food was OK. Expected more from the food since they have great reviews, but was somewhat disappointed.
We stopped by for a day date. It was an up and down lunch with the service overall super slow. Our drinks came with our food after waiting over 30 minutes for our appetizers. And the bartender couldn’t make a mechilada (of which was undrinkable and yet we still paid for). And no other drink was offered as a substitute. Then the second drink came when we were done almost another 20 minutes after ordering. The food was half really good and half under cooked, my husbands shrimp were translucent and unbeatable. Overall the food is hit or miss, really good ideas not always executed well but every time the service has been very poor, we will not be returning.
Service and food were amazing, would definitely recommend
Great good and selections.
Some of the dishes are truly amazing and some are good. The salsa verde was a stand out. Worth a shot although it will be a while before going back. Nothing beats his steakhouse though....
We love all the other Killen’s restaurants, but we’re very disappointed with TMX. We both had very upset stomachs after dinner. We will continue eating at the other restaurants and wait until TMX has some time to improve.
The food was good but overpriced and the service was bad!
I had high hopes for this restaurant especially after reading all the wonderful reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed early on into our lunch. Firstly, our server was scattered..by that I mean that most of our orders were either delayed, missing items or incorrect. Not only did she not notice that there were items missing but she would try to come up with an unnecessary excuse as to why they were just beginning to make them.
We visited Killen’s TMX for Sunday brunch during Houston Restaurant Weeks. The food was good, loved the dessert options, but service was lacking. One of our entrees was never put in and we had to request it twice. We also had to ask for set ups for our meals multiple times. Not sure what was going on, they just weren’t on their A game this weekend.
Attentive service with open, honest, recommendations and answers to questions. Food was well prepared; only would suggest some hotter salsas and / or condiments for those who like a little extra spice in their life. What was really nice was the ability to hold a conversation even where the place got busy.
Went here for lunch and the food was amazing! Definitely recommend
The the rice and beans were over salted but the chicken was amazing. Our server was really good and helped me pick out my meal. However, whoever was talking with him kept trying to overcharge us. I ordered a kids meal for my kids, one of the options was a chicken enchilada. After I ordered it, they indicated that chicken was a $4 extra charge. How? It's on the menu for kids. That annoyed me to the point of not wanting to go back.
Houston Restaurant Week - awesome!! Loved the enchiladas. Disappointed that Getaway Car has to be on the rocks and not frozen. Server was awesome! Overall, had a lovely time as usual. Love Killens anything !!
The Waitress service was excellent. But the time we waited for our meal was very slow. The tres leches cake was dry. I want to see my Leche oozing from the cake.
We went for Houston Restaurant Week. First time there and loved the food! Wait staff was great and the manager came out to inform us of delays in the kitchen- very professional and ensured we had everything we needed as we waited for our entrees.
Food is great, but they were out of several of the wines we ordered. Our server told us the bar manager from the steak house had come taken most of their wine that day!!!! We had the brisket queso, the snapper and the brisket enchiladas. Our friends had the chicken fajitas. All were delicious. Service was fine. I highly suggest the Queen of the Underworld margarita! Delicious!
Best enchiladas ever! Relaxing, quick and yummy dinner!
We enjoyed the Houston Restaurant Week menu. The brisket queso was outstanding!
Even though they got my order slightly wrong they quickly corrected it even better than I asked. If I go again, I'll ask them to leave a water pitcher at the table as the glasses were a little small for me. Food was excellent, dessert was amazing, waiter was very competent. The location is perfect for me. With tip, a little over $200 for 5 adults (3 had drinks with alcohol)
Great smokey flavor taste with Mexican cuisine and the margaritas were awesome!
The food was amazing and the waiter was so knowledgeable. He made our first time here a wonderful experience.
Always a perfect dinner out!! Always save room for dessert!!!
The food is excellent. The smoked flavors really make them stand apart from the rest of the Tex-mex fare around, in my opinion.
For brunch, a bit over priced. Didn’t have a large selection on buffet and food that was suppose to be hot was cold or somewhat warm.
The food was great. I will be back soon for the short rib tamales. My husband and I shared the fajitas and three appetizers. We loved everything.
Not only was the food delicious, the atmosphere was pleasant. Despite every table being occupied, we found the atmosphere to be cozy and quieter than expected. Loved the blue and white patterned table settings. The food was delicious. We got the Wagyu fajitas and my absolute favorite brisket queso. Will go back to try other entrees!
One of our favorite places to go. Atmosphere is lovely and quiet enough to have a conversation. The food quality is superb and our waiter gave us excellent service and made it fun.
It was our first visit to Killen's TMX and we couldn't have been more pleased. The food was outstanding, very flavorful and well prepared. It is not your traditional Tex-Mex menu, but rather features Ronnie Killen's new twists on traditional items. Our server was Skye, and she could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely be going back again.
Had heard some negatives, but still wanted to try this spot. I'm glad I did. Party of 2 ordered the smoked brisket nachos and pork belly street tacos. Both were excellent. Portions larger than they needed to be. Pricing was more than fair. Will be going back.
Place was almost empty for lunch. Food came out very quickly but was way too salty. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area.
We will be back. The food was a very nice change from the old standards we usually go to. However, the taco meat and the beans were off temperature, so that is the reason for 4 stars.
GREAT FOOD!!! Beautiful inside! Will most definitely be dinning again!
Killens TMX was A-May-Zing. The ambience was casual but classy. The server was personable and provided great recommendations. All the food was fresh and flavorful. Best sangria I’ve had in my life. Save room for dessert though, because the churros and tres leches bread pudding are ridiculously good.
