Kihon is a Japanese sushi restaurant located on Naples Island, Long Beach, California. Positioned right next to a host of other traditional restaurants, Kihon aims to provide a fusion of traditional Japanese dishes with a modern twist, focusing more on core ingredients such as fish and rice rather than sauces.
The restaurant specializes in ramen, tapas, soups, salads and specialty rolls. Sushi dinner platters are also available along with teriyaki chicken, beef and shrimp. Among the most popular dishes is the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno, smoked octopus carpaccio, ceviche and calamari tempura. Kihon is open every day from 5:00PM to 9:30PM, with weekends extending the closing time to 10:30PM.
Kihon is a must for sushi in the Naples/Belmont Shore/Heights area. The fish exceptionally fresh, the preparation superb, service great and not intrusive, restaurant provides a clean, simple and step above neighborhood restaurant experience. We eat there weekly and friends come from outside the LB area to enjoy great sushi at a great price. Thanks!
Good food, good service, but timing on when the food came out was a little bit annoying. All of my food came out before my girlfriends and it took another 16 minutes for them to get her food out.
Better each time! This is the best Japanese restaurant around...the Best!
Pretty good tonkatsu ramen, shishito peppers were quite good, the octopus was just ok. The service was pleasant but slow and the restaurant is very loud so hard to have a conversation. I’d try it again sometime on a less busy night.
This restaurant has friendly and efficient staff. We visited on a Tuesday evening. I highly recommend making a reservation.
The food was fresh/good. The “Dude” was good. A friend had a spinach dish which all 4 of us liked a lot.
Parking was provided right in front of the restaurant and is off street parking.
Excellent service. Super fresh delicious fish in the sushi. Great place!
Great neighborhood sushi experience. TVs make it easy to come in alone for the sushi bar or dine at tables with friends. Nice mix of specials and dependable sushi. Overall, quite good near Naples.
This place is amazing. I was in Long Beach for the weekend and went on Thursday night. The sushi was incredible - they had an amazing selection and talented chefs. Chef Peter took excellent care of us. I have dined at many 1 to 3 star Michelin sushi restaurants around the world (25+ of them), and while this was a very different dining experience, the value was incredible. The nigiri, handrolls, gyoza, and the spicy tuna crispy rice were our favorites. Highly recommend this spot. Top notch food at unbeatable prices.
Great service. Great food.
Good sushi, nice variety and TV to watch sports.
We spent New Year's Eve. at Kihon and were so happy that we chose this restaurant. Great food, friendly service, nice ambiance , great bar menu and great sushi bar.
Amazing, the service and food are the best.
Peter you are a Super Star.
Good food. Great service. A little pricey for a quick bite.
We decided to go omakase and we really had a good time! Our chef Koji San was awesome. He informed us about what we were having each time he presented an item to us. Every plate tasted good but my favorite was the seared toro! Melts in your mouth kind of goodness! Would definitely recommend this place! Excellent food, excellent service.
We’ve finally found a good local sushi spot! After moving from LA to Seal Beach we’ve been searching out quality meals and after too many strike outs it’s nice to see a restaurant that actually has their isht together. The chefs made us special requests of both adult and kid friendly sushi. Thanks Kihon!
Best sushi in town! We love this place. Wish it was open for lunch too
The loudest restaurant I have ever been to! The service was fair at best and it’s expensive for what you get! Don’t think we are going back!
The best sushi and sashimi in Long Beach. Absolutely fabulous. Great service, too. Only negative is acoustics are bad so it is very noisy. This will be our go-to sushi restaurant.
We had a great time at Kihon with 3 generations in our group, including teenage son. We are able to order everything from the most unique sushi (teenager favorite), to dumplings to teriyaki and tempura platter. Softshell crab sushi is a favorite. Reservations recommended since the restaurant is small but popular.
Great sushi across the board. Fantastic service. We are very particular and this was fantastic and will come again next time we’re down in Long Beach
Wow, I told my Japanese sushi chef friend about the selection of fish that Kihon had available and he was impressed as well as my friend who dined with me, visiting from Japan. We were lucky to get seats at the sushi bar, I was told. I had requested sushi bar seats thru Open Table but the restaurant said it was first-come, first-serve only for the sushi bar
I guess I'm spoiled... everything was very good but a definite miss on the details. (service, wait staff, food)
First and last time I go to this place. Food was not that great.
It's too expensive for the quality
The best service!
Had a lovely time. The miso eggplant appetizer was delicious, and sushi was spectacular.
We love Kihon. Service is always great and food it delicious. This is our go to neighborhood spot for sushi. And their Ramen is pretty spectacular.
Unfortunately when we arrived for our reservation they hadn't checked Open Table and didn't know we made a reservation. Something about "weren't notified by Open Table" and they had given our table to another party. Luckily there was just a 10-15 minute wait and we were able to sit down. Food is very good and prices are fair. The acoustics need some help so it's very loud.
Wonderful time at the Sushi. Ken and his team at the sushi do a great job!
Great food. Friendly service. Everyone is really nice including other customers. Peter, the sushi chef, is awesome!!!
The food was delicious and it was affordable!
For authentic and traditional sushi, with the option of some creative and unique menu options, Kihon is a great choice. I am lucky to live close by and come here very often. While the interior decor is somewhat basic and casual, the food is the main focus here. It also does not have a ton of seating space, so its a little more intimate. I highly recommend Kihon to anyone, but especially those who appreciate well made, high quality sushi.
We had a 9:15 pm reservation for which we were seated promptly, ignored for a short time , ordered one thing plus beer/sake, then ignored some more (busy talking up regulars) and then suddenly told LAST Call! The sushi was amazing but we were forced to shove it down our throats and make immediate decisions about what to order. Please don't take late reservations late if you can't provide a proper complete meal service, or please be more attentive from the minute we are seated---more communicative about when the kitchen closes, when the sushi bar closes. Thank you.
