Our second visit to Khamsa gave opportunity to explore the menu further. The Beef Tagine was sumptuously tender, saffron scented with perfect roasted pears and walnuts to accompany - order the saffron rice or couscous because you'll want every drop of the sauce. The cauliflower appetizer was cooked to perfection with olives, roasted peppers and a hint of oregano the lead spice. Merquez (lamb) sausage with saffron/tomato scented beans also quite delicious and served with very nice pita. The ever gracious owners sent over yet another complimentary dessert - this time a sort of rolled almond/cardamon dense cookie served with cardamon scented ice cream dusted with pistachios. A bottle of Moroccan Cab/Grenach was lightly fruity and with enough depth to match everything we ordered. Again, a lovely room, gracious and inspired service from people who are truly passionate about introducing new spins on traditional Moroccan dishes to SF and providing a relaxed and pleasurable dinner experience. Thank you!
The calamari was worth the trip to the city. Check it out.
Excellent food very tasty and seasoned to perfection loud lively place. Good service
Fantastic food and service!
Enjoyed Khamsa on our first visit. Lovely room, gracious service and excellent traditional Moroccan dishes with a nice farm-to-table touch. The lamb Mrouzia, eggplant rolls and lovely spice cake with were all delicious. Will try the Beef Tangine next time. Excellent and intriquing wine list - enjoyed a bottle of the Syrah which was perfect with the lamb and the eggplant.
Excellent food. Waiters very helpful and friendly. Will go again
Nice, clean atmosphere. Good service and good food.
Lovely ambience, inventive dishes, using fresh ingredients, and imaginatively served. We were seated in a bit of a corner, next to a large, loud party (It was pretty OK, they were having fun). I mentioned the seating to our server; we were comped a dessert as recompense.
Amazing food, amazing venue, amazing people. I was lucky to choose Khamsa in replacement of hosting a homemade meal. It turned out perfect for a small gathering of friends. Said the one who’s visiting from the eastern Mediterranean and is married into a Moroccan family: some of the highest quality foods he can recall in the Bay Area.
This is a great place to do family style dinner so that you can try all the delicious dishes! The staff is friendly, the wine is good, and the dinner is beautiful, flavorful, and done well.
Relatively small, sleek space, with a fun/trendy vibe
Food was tasty, looked attractive, and good portions
Tangia and chicken entrees were the best
Such a quaint, cute restaurant. Perfect for a dinner date and/or catching up with 1 or 2 friends. The food was yummy. I recommend the beet salad and get a side of their cous-cous. Very fluffy and scrumptious.
Best kept secret in San Francisco. Worth every penny. The beef tangine and vegetable tangine are my favorites. The waiters are incredibly friendly and attentive. Would come back again and again.
This is our 4th time at Khamsa and the 3rd time taking folks who hadn't been there before. Our meal was delicious and our friends were still talking about it the next day. We'll be back.
Dinner before dance show at ODC theater
We loved the experience which was made so pleasurable by the hostess, gulba.
We loved the food lamb couscous divine
My friend picked up the lamb shank and ate every morsel and my partner loved the salmon
Lots of good food and loved the staff.
Run, do not walk! Very authentic. Great wine selection. Best Baklava in the World!!!!!
This was my first time at Khamsa. We were a large party for my birthday and the service was excellent and the food outstanding. Everyone kept noting how good all the dishes were. We also had Palestinian red wine from the West Bank which I highly recommend. I will definitely go back and continue to spread the good word!
Always consistently great Moroccan food with great service. One of my favorites.
This was my third meal at Khamsa, and I'll definitely be back. The food, service, and ambiance are all great. It's a very nice choice if you're in the neighborhood.
We loved this place. It's nicely decorated. The food was really good overall. Well done!
The layout of the restaurant is awkward and the seating is too close to the entrance of the restaurant, making the bar seating too close to the dining area
I went on Valentines Day. Khamsa did a few things right, but most wrong. First, there was no mention of it being an $85 prix fixe menu for the night. We had actually seeked out a restaurant without one, only to come to find out that we were now on the hook for a $210+ meal. But it was too late for any changes and they had my card so we didn't complain. The atmosphere is great; small, romantic, and not too noisy. The service was fine, as it was pretty apparent they were a bit stretched thin. But the food was a huge let down, and my biggest complaint. Flavors were conflicting, the duck was WAY over cooked and super dry, the lamb was too sweet, and even the ice cream tasted like the crappy store bought vanilla. Even the wine pour was disappointingly small. We watched most people leave without taking any left overs. Not the experience we were looking for.
Very basic food, not the best service and extremely loud. V Day ruined. The calamari was way too spicy, the salad was too sweet, the duck had no flavor and the dessert was out of a Costco. Definitely but worth the $85 plus taxes V Day dinner. Maybe 20. I have had Moroccan food before. This is so far from the best flavors. I’d rather make fried rice at home.
I made reservations for Valentine's Day and was disappointed to see that there was a prefixed menu for $85. It wasnt posted on the website and felt locked in to stay since it was a busy day for all restaurants. I noticed everyone who came in were disappointed too. A website posting or easel sign would have been nice. I've been here before and knoq the food is delicious but this was not a great experience.
I've discovered this place less than 2 weeks ago, and I've already came back! I love the food, the atmosphere and the service!
We were excited to try this restaurant after reading such great reviews. Although the service and ambiance were great, we found the food to be uniformly disappointing. The dishes were all bland, with very little seasoning of any kind, and the lamb and fish entrees were both overcooked to the point of flavorless dryness. The salad was excellent, but the rest of our meal just didn’t measure up.
Great menu, great food, great service!
Loved the food and the service
The herb tea was unusual and unusually good
It was cold outsode and when I opened the door and was greeted with the warmth of healthy aromatic cooking, it comforted me. The atmosphere of thr space is wonderful, very modern, with a connection to the old roots of North Africa. The Calimar appetizer is one of the greatest things I have ever tasted. I will be back.
Wonderful authentic Moroccan cuisine, steps from great bars and clubs in the mission. So nice and quiet. Great service. There were two or three other parties, just right. Great for couples.
Great service wonderful food. Will go back.
I love this restaurant. I take people here when I want to impress them and give them a more unique dining experience. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is very elegant yet inviting.
Bday dinner with family
Based on the reviews we had very high expectations and the restaurant, while very lovely in decor, was pretty average on the food front. Meat dried out and couscous bland and crumbly (vs. moist and tender). We're guessing maybe the chef was out sick?
After Googling for a restaurant near the Victoria Theatre that could seat ten people, Khamsa Restaurant popped up as the only available option. The rest of the group and I had never had Moroccan food before, but we decided to give it a shot and we are very glad we did! First they were very flexible when two of our party cancelled and they easily reset our table for 8. We started with their nice selection of beer and wine before ordering our entrees. Everything we ate was amazing and the service was perfect! They even gave us a side of couscous on the house, which was also delicious. I think we found our new go-to place whenever we have tickets for the Victoria Theatre. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out!
Nice atmosphere , friendly attentive service, attractive decor, was able to get a res for party of 7 a few days prior , some menu items stood out including the Basteeya and duck tagine, others like the fish tagine were a miss...
Tasty options abound! Could have spent my whole time on the starters! Fresh, colorful, modern setting and remarkable wine list featuring several middle eastern offering to complement traditional California and European offerings.
