The drink selection is outstanding. The list of small plates includes some interesting options; not your everyday appetizer menu, but you really can't go wrong.
Fresh menu, excellent service, an inviting and delicious dinner. The shrimp and cod presentations were outstanding. Can’t recall a recent dining experience that was more enjoyable.
What a fun place! We had small plates. First thing I would say is everything was unique and scrumptious! Our wait team was very attentive. Our orders were taken and put in, someone else brought the food and told us what each plate was, and a 3rd person removed plates as we went. The waiter checked with us regularly to be sure we were enjoying each plate and made a few recommendations. The big eye tuna pizza was very different and incredibly delicious. We had the shishito peppers, fois gras cubano- which was perfectly done and beautifully layered with ham over a soft bun, pork steam buns were to die for and the hamachi tuna tacos were very flavorful and beautifully spiced. We remarked on how well run this restaurant was and how quickly food came out. Overall, a stellar experience.
Good small plates to share. Great service. LIttle noisy if you're on a date for dinner and conversation.
Great outdoor patio area
Great wait staff!
This place is amazing! Went around 6, and sat upstairs inside near the bar, it was a weeknight. The view was amazing! It’s starting to get busy sometime after seven, but we could still hear each other even with the band Inside, which was also a great choice to sit and listen to music. The food and service was on point. Just a nice vibe overall. Will be back when we are in San Diego for sure!
Excellent food and service. Multiple small plates to share is the best call. Upstairs live music doesn’t interfere with downstairs dining; just loud enough to hear. Bonus that it has inexpensive valet parking.
We had a delightful dinner on the second floor at KEX, went early so it was quite quiet but as we left the crowd was gathering and seemed like a good one. Food was excellent, service by Abbey was just tops. My wife and I will return again. Jim P
I went to Kettner Exchange because there was an event (Nora en Pure) and considering how packed the place was the Wait staff was very calm, cool and collective - I didn’t feel rushed at all!!
The food was great and couldn’t have been any happier with our choice in Sunday Brunch!
Fun spot, casual, good ambience and customer service, the chicken sandwich and burger didn't disappoint. Would definitely go back.
Amazing food, very beautiful place!
Great dining experience! The small plates is the way to go - each person in our group of (4) could try something different. Excellent service as well.
Kettner Exchange is so amazing, I ate there twice in one week. EXCELLENT SERVICE. The food...every single thing about the food is thoughtful and perfect. I will make sure I eat there every time I am in San Diego.
Came here for a Sunday brunch with friends. The food was great. We got half off our bottle of rosé for their Sunday happy hour. They had a DJ outside, making it a fun atmosphere. I’ll definitely go back when I’m in San Diego again!
Came to Kettner Exchange for our 8 year anniversary. Amazing experience!!! Our waitress (forget her name, unfortunately...) was extremely helpful! Great suggestions. Perfect seating. Food came out quickly, HOT, and in order from light to heavy. Was skeptical this might just be a “hype spot,” but KEX is more than that. Would definitely come back. Highly recommend the Foie Gras Cubano. FIRE.
Excellent service and the quality of the food was great as well. We were not rushed at all and had a very relaxing dinner. They gave me the particular table I requested when I made the reservation on Open Table.
Overall and excellent experience and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
Fantastic small plates. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Cocktails were great. Staff was very friendly. Best meal we had in SD.
Overall the dinner was very nice, service was fantastic and we enjoyed the restaurant. The one issue I would raise is that the Hanger Steak was cooked in too much oil and salt. The meat has natural great flavor and unfortunately, the plate was unnecessarily heavy. I think a chef at Kettner Exchange should do better. However, ceviche and RockyRoad dessert was terrific!
Fantastic on all levels! Highly recommend.....amazing food!
We were running late but we still had our table and they were closing the kitchen in 8 mins but they still were able to put all of our order in and make sure everything was great.
Got great recommendations from our server. We ended up sharing 4 apps instead of each getting an entree plate which was the perfect amount of food for 2 people. Great fun vibes, always love the food! Chef is out of this world.
Had the tuna pizza (if you love poke, you’ll love this)
Fried rice with quail...bomb 👌🏼
Foie gras toast with orange marmalade 😋
Duck meatball with grits was full of flavor and so juicy
11/10 would go back
Went for a late Valentine’s Day dinner- would recommend for any occasion! Awesome food and service. Definitely get small plates to share
The service and food in here are ALWAYS impeccable!!! I will continue to visit!!
Food is excellent
I went to kex for my wife’s birthday and loved everything. Our waitress was incredible, food was roughly 10 a plate for smaller portions but tasted incredible and we both got full and had leftovers with 3 plates a piece. Whole experience was under a hundred bucks with multiple drinks and I would of happily payed double.
Great Valentine's day meal. Everything was perfect
Kettner Exchange is one of our favorite go to places in downtown San Diego. We always have a wonderful experience.
Went here for a Valentines day dinner and overall the experience was perfection. The service was timely, friendly, and yet not intrusive. The food was fantastic; it was a fixed menu for Valentines day and the food and wine pairing was magnificent. We had an earlier reservation at 1715 and the mood was quiet, welcoming, and pleasant. Aside from the occasional celebration, this place is the perfect spot for happy hour or for just grabbing a delicious drink to kick off your night out on the town. My wife and I have been here once before Valentines day and the place has continued to impress us with its drinks and live music upstairs. By the way, the upstairs bar and lounge are reason enough to come try this place out. Overall, a five star experience.
Cozy and cool place with great service and good food. A fun spot to visit!
Amazing experience . The cocktails were perfectly balanced, the hanger steak was exploding with flavor and the chunky monkey dessert was to die for (and such a creative presentation!) Erica was our server and made us feel so special. Such a beautiful spot. Highly recommended!
Been there a few time with a group upstairs and its great. Downstairs this time was completely different - surprisingly quiet. Food and service were good. Prefer the buzz upstairs.
Great spot. There's stairs to the second floor but I noticed an elevator. The Hamachi is delicious! So is the rocky road dessert. The KPK cocktail was also very good! Great atmosphere and lighting. Very romantic. Would definitely recommend to a friend and family.
Went for late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Live music and very busy, great brunch menu. Our waitress was very nice but obviously had a lot of tables. We were chatting amongst ourselves and happy to wait a little bit, but if this were to happen again it might be more of a complaint.
This was not a good day for Kettner Exchange. We waited 15 minutes after we were seated to place a drink order. Twenty minutes later our drinks came. We were a party of four and forty minutes after we placed our food order, two of us were served. The other two meals came over 10 minutes later. The server was apologizing every two minutes. The restaurant took out food items off the bill but we were not visited by a manager. The dining experience was sold as a New Orleans Jazz brunch but the music was piped in and impossible to hear due to the noise level. We will not return.
The food was amazing and the service was outstanding!
This place is excellent. The ambiance is great , and the food and drinks are sophisticated and delicious. I noticed it’s a sister restaurant to the Fire House in PB. Both excellent restaurants with really cool and unique style and design. I would definitely recommend Kettner Exchange for a date night or dinner with friends!
Excellent meal and service. The fois gras toast appetizer was delicious with thin slices of fois gras, and went perfectly with the grenache/syra that our server recommended. We had the duck, which was nicely roasted and the meat was tender. The prime hangar steak was also flavorful, tender, and perfectly medium/rare as ordered. It was accompanied by an interesting shoshito pepper sauce with generous helpings of mushrooms and grilled onions. The carmel bundino dessert was equally tasty. Given that all three courses were quite good, it is a restaurant that we will return to in a month or so.
Awesome food and drinks! small plates are the best and easy to share with friends.
If you decide to sit outside, remember there are a few menu items that are only available inside. Our hostess failed to tell us that, but then the kitchen made an exception when we asked. So many options on the menu, we were happy.
