I was really excited to try out this place. We drove an hour and fifteen minutes out of town to celebrate a friends birthday here. Valet was extremely friendly. Hostesses were friendly. We were seated promptly. Upon walking in we were totally taken aback by the decor and ambience (in a good way). Then we were greeted by our first waitress. We had questions about some of the wine and asked to taste two. When she came back we asked for more time to decide and she left, seemingly very annoyed by our request. Next thing you know we are greeted by a second waitress, with the other never mentioned of again. She also seemed very annoyed by our questions about the menu items. The food was delicious but overall our experience was tampered because of the poor attitudes of the servers. We felt like an inconvenience, and after driving out of our way for such a special night, it was disappointing.
Great food and service all around. Our server Ariana deserves full kudos. This is a must for dinner in San Diego.
Excellent and creative food. Party of three, each ordered 2 small plates. Wine choices were also excellent. Server very knowledgeable and attentive.
The food was exceptional. The service impeccable. The first band was awesome. The second band was extremely loud, didn’t provide a variety of music and for goodness sake the trombone needed to be muffled. This band made an enjoyable evening into a migraine. Recommend keeping the first band which was very entertaining, didn’t try to break the sound barrier and played a variety of music for everyone.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday. Everything was absolutely amazing from the drinks, the appetizer, our dinners, the dessert and topped off by terrific service (Kudos to Jenny)
This was our 1st time here and we will definitely return!!!
Food was good, but not nearly good enough for the price. The service was also very slow.
Start to finish, the food and service was fantastic. Will definitely be back!
4 year anniversary!
I asked for a table that was on the quieter side and that honored the request. The food was outstanding. One of our dinner guests hates kale but LOVED their kale salad. We ordered a 4 small plates and two entrees for three people and had plenty of food. Outstanding service and cuisine.
There were six of us for dinner and we got lucky enough to sit in the private dining room our waitress was megan and she was very attentive and every time the food was delivered it was explained very well to us what we were having, I think we had everything on the menu! And the manager Cara was wonderful and very helpful And made our birthday celebration evening unforgettable. Thank you so much for the great experience
Split 4 small plates and a bottle of wine with dinner. That was plenty of food for us, and the quality of the food was amazing. Noise was quite loud, and that was BEFORE a DJ started playing music. Our bill was close to $80 per person. Service was good but we had to request to have our white wine placed in a wine chiller.
Overall very nice dinner. I'll return.
KEX is a great place for dinner or drinks anytime you are downtown San Diego. Outstanding.
The wine was great but that is all I could have as my gluten intolerance limited me to a total of 5 items and the server was not inspired to assist. HUGE disappointment. We left.
Went here for our anniversary, waitress gave complimentary champagne to celebrate very impressive. Food was excellent, scallops are a must have if you’re a seafood lover. “S’mores dessert was excellent and a must have as well.
We've passed by it many times but never had the pleasure to try. We never cook at home and this was definitely by far top 10!
Great cocktails, great food, great atmosphere, and great service.
Food was amazing service was excellent - but we will never go back - it was so loud we couldn’t talk to each other across the table
We went for my parent's anniversary with a tough mix for a crowd (food snob to burger fan, international based frequent traveler to senior discount seekers). All raved including my brother who stopped through between Bahrain and Bali for the event. With the addition of an off the menu veggie dish - we all shared all of the dishes that came through. We will be back to check out the bar scene upstairs.
Food and service were OK, not great. But the very loud music ruined the experience for me. Loud pop rock with heavy drums in every song. Not a relaxing way to enjoy Saturday brunch.
Food was ok. Some dishes were delicious and others were unimpressive. Waitress did not know menu well. She stated it changes everyday which is why she should have a better handle on it. Part of a great dining experience is staff and it was not there..
My wife and I had a very nice evening at Kettner Exchange. I highly recommend!
I went to Kettner Exchange a few years ago right after it opened and it was a total scene. I promised myself I'd go back when it calmed down a bit. I finally went back for dinner and it was OK. The service was great -- our server, Tom, was quick and knowledgable. The food was way too spendy, though. Small plates had inventive combinations, but none of them knocked my socks off. In fact, the duck wraps, which use Daikon radish instead of lettuce, were so puny that there wasn't enough duck to taste, and when they're 3 for $14, there's a serious value problem. The Thai sausage was the best of 5 plates we ordered -- a little heavy on the lemongrass but good, nonetheless. And the rooftop is still a total scene, even on a weeknight!
The best dining experience I've ever had. Thank you!
Great food and drinks! Yum!
The food was excellent. On recommendation of our server, we had the grilled hamachi, the Szechuan lamb noodles and the scallops. I could have eaten another whole order of those scallops they were sooooo good. The service was spot on (although it wasn't terribly busy). On the down side, I would have liked being sat upstairs (much more fun crowd), the drinks were on the small side, and the tonic they used seemed a little flat.
The food was amazing. Topped it all all off with Chunky Monkey where what looked like a banana was ice cream! Super yummy!
Great experience. Our server, Lauren was amazing food and drinks were incredible. Looking forward to coming back.
Absolutely fantastic dinner. Best in San Diego
Amazing place to visit. ;-) Food, drinks, service and ambiance! Looking forward to go again!
Amazing and unique cocktails. Delicious small plates to share. The lamb szechuan noodles were out of this world!
Great food and very attractive restaurant
The food was delicious, service on point, and the ambiance was lovely. Thank you!
This restaurant was very highly recommended to us
Three of us ordered 6 small plates
The kale salad was outstanding and oversized
The other small plates were mostly very good but
the portion size in a couple of them leaves something to be desired. My husband walked out hungry. This after 2 small plates, wine and dessert.
Overall the good was delicious and innovative and enjoyable
We sat next to a large group who were very loud which impacted on our enjoyment. Just the luck of the draw
Great location that used to be known for great mixed drinks. Something has slipped at least at the upstairs bar last Friday.
Kettner Exchange is a San Diego staple. The food is the prefect blend of excitingly exotic and is also full of the love and comfort one might enjoy out of their favorite home cooked dish. The ambiance is stylish, romantic, lively and a place where you truly feel at home. The wait staff are friendly & really make you feel taken care of. The cocktails are absolutely delicious. Even the music is lovely. My husband and I enjoy cozy date nights and also love celebrating special occasions here with friends and family. It is a very special. We will always love this place. One of a kind experience!
Great food and ambiance
As always top notch service ..we always come here for our anniversary. Food is always fresh tasting , the waygu is to die for! We always tend to stick to the same items, the octupus , duck meatball, fluke sashimi, can not go wrong with any of these .
The food was fantastic, love the small plates... Great atmosphere and ambiance!
Sun was in our eyes for awhile, but the service was great.
Amazing food! The noise level was a little too loud as it was hard to talk to someone across the table, but apart from that I really enjoy coming to Kettner Exchange.
