Kettle Black is a kind-of-casual, kind-of-fancy Italian spot in Silver Lake that knows its way around a wood-fired oven.
This is my second time to eat at Kettle Black. Both times the food and service has been outstanding.
Loved the bread and clams.
Visiting from NY. Great food & great service. On par with NYC restaurants
The food and service were very good, with an interesting wine list. Very enjoyable!
Great food and service.
My son killed half the Burratta Margherita pizza and I had the citrus-cured salmon; I highly recommend both.
The doors and windows were wide open, so it was quite chilly, but I prefer it.
Mediocre food at best. So many better options in this area. Our Baratta pizza had almost no cheese and was lukewarm and soggy.
This place is beautiful, but I think they are understaffed. We ordered an appetizer and Pizza. 50 min later we asked about the Pizza. It immediately arrived - Cold and dry. The waitress comp'd the pizza.
Food was not good but the service was great and the spot was fun .we won’t be going back unfortunately
Love this place. We have been going there from the day they opened. I would say one of the best restaurants in silver lake.
Very dry chicken, everything else was great
Service was pretty awful. The host was super nice and we were seated right away although as I was about to sit one of the waitresses was looking at me sideways. It felt very mean girls. I almost wanted to ask why she was staring at me. Service was slow. Forgetful. Food was cold and mediocre. Overpriced. Once our food arrived no one asked if we needed any fresh pepper or fresh cheese. We had to hound the staff for it. Overall this is Los Angeles and there are several real and delicious Italian places that blow this place out of the water and offers service with a smile. This place will be replaced in a couple of years.
I have been there a few times from 30 miles away. Food, environment is great. Price reasonable. Service is great. Nice restaurant for a night out whether its date, friends get together, couple or group - all good :-)
Outstanding service with a very laid back, no fussy vibe. Great food and hospitality.
Hard to review this place as the service was so bad.
The positives were the stellar cauliflower salad, the best i have ever had and the branzino was beautifully cooked, fresh and sweet.no need for the heavy tomato sauce it sat in, the lemony frisée salad was nice but would have been more appropriate beside the fish, not no top of it.
The cavatelli with muscrooms and fava beens could have been OK but was radically a dente and swimming in fat, it tasted like some type of animal fat too, pretty nasty actually
But the main negatives were the wines and the service. Admittedly we only ordered whites, but i would be hard pressed to find worse especially at the prices they charge. They were also served WAY TOO COLD. Finally i ended up with the Arneis which was acceptable. The Greco di Tufo, a wine i know well as i work for an Italian wine importer was undrinkeable.
The service, was by far the most objectionable part of the experience and the reason i will not go back. Firstly it was almost impossible to find a server, then once we had one, she was rather sullen and apparently too busy elsewhere to revisit our table. We had to ask the hostess who was roaming about for some reason to send us someome. The second server who came by was much more personable than server #1 and knew a little more about the wines on offer
The final straw however was at the very end while i was sitting at the table but getting ready to leave, server #1 comes by and drops off someones dirty half finished plate of food on the table and walks off!
Generally good, however the amplified music coupled with bad acoustics made it difficult to hear each other talk. Better to go alone or sit outside. Food was good and I'd go back for that....maybe to go.
The first courses were good. Main courses and pastas were not. Service was average.
I don’t think we’ll go back.
The food was marvelous, the service - even better. A kitchen snafu that might have marred the experience really allowed the staff to shine. They refused to serve a dish they felt was sub-par, kept us regularly informed as to its replacement, and compensated us generously for the very modest inconvenience. Loved the cauliflower, eggplant, mushroom pappardelle and Mary's chicken. Can't wait to go back and try some more!
we have enjoyed this restaurant in the past which is why we opted to meet our friend from Spain here. We wanted a reasonably quiet meal so that we could converse and enjoy good food. When we have eaten here in the past we have requested either outdoors or upstairs as they tend to be quieter. This meal was very stressful because the music was WAY TOO LOUD. We asked both the host and our waitress to lower the music but if they did it was negligible. I do not understand why any restaurant would expect people to pay quite a bit for a meal and then make conversation trying if not impossible.
When will restaurants learn that people enjoy music but not at the expense of conversation.
Fourth visit. Perfect each time. Love the Cavatelli Pasta!
A little disappointing. Ordered a pizza but it was so loud the waitress messed up the order. Of course we were hunry and didn't want to wait for them to fix it so we just settled. Waitress seemed outgunned. Not planning to come back.
Food was totally substandard. Pizza was edible but you can get much better in LA. Other dishes were disgusting. Cauliflower just tasted of fish. Mushroom tagliatelle was over flavored. Would never go back.
Delicious food and excellent service. Will definitely be back.
SO GOOD. SO SO GOOOOOOD.
Made reservation, seated quickly, tasty Manhattan and savory food.
Always one of my local favorites. And defiantly worth the drive if you are not a Silver Lake local. Don't miss the mushroom pizza!
Food was okay. Decor is amazing. Service was good.
We arrived on a very cold evening and the table they gave us was outside. One heater in the whole patio. Not near our table. Our table was right on the sidewalk. No closure. Too cold to eat dinner so we had to leave. we should have been warned that this was our table. Had a reservation for several weeks. They didn’t seem to care
Staying in the SilverLake area whilst on a business trip and went for dinner there with my colleagues. Excellent food, a well curated and interesting Italian wine list and great cocktails to boot!
I would highly recommend this place as a casual dining / drinking venue. Good Times.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, & wonderful staff. Would love to try out the sister restaurant, Sawyer, next time we are in town.
Delicious food, wine, ambiance. Pasta was perfect.
Food was good, enjoyed the ambiance. Wish I had been a more visible to my waiter. She was nice.
Perfect ambience for a nice dinner with friends or for date night. Service was great! Portions are on the smaller side, but the food was really good. Overall great experience. Will definitely be back!
The food was awful. So disappointed, we loved this place but now it seems like no one care.
Loud but great food and great drinks. Would have liked more burrata on my buratta pizza but it had good flavor regardless...
Saved us a table even tho we were extremely late. Truly appreciate it. Server was lovely. Drinks / wine were great. We had last min joiners and they accommodated us with no issues.
Decoré is lovely - great date spot!
Overall, our experience at Kettle Black was subpar. The food was just okay -- not quite worth the price but not bad. The drinks were the same -- good, but not quite worth the price. Our service was poor, but it seemed our server may have been new. Unfortunately, he said the OpenTable Dining Rewards we had specifically booked our reservation to use was "unusable," which was disappointing. I personally wouldn't go back to Kettle Black.
The restaurant is beautiful. We all commented on that when we walked in. We had a 8pm reservation for 4. We were there about 5 minutes early and were told our table wouldn’t be ready for about 15-20 min. Fine except there were about 4 open tables. We were sat at about 8:20 but then NOBODY came to our table for service. Not a drink, nothing. We finally asked if we had a server at about the 30 min mark. That is ridiculous. We finally ordered, everything at one time because we didn’t want to let the guy leave. The food took forever and we had to ask for the bill when they dropped the food. We had to be home by 10:30 to let the babysitter go. We get it, it was Friday night but this place needs to step it up. The food was good. The decor was great. The service sucked.
Great happy hour. Love the "sip and slice." Very nice pastas. Great vibe/atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Overall very good value for the caliber of service/food/atmosphere.
Loved it all !!!
