Kettle Black is a kind-of-casual, kind-of-fancy Italian spot in Silver Lake that knows its way around a wood-fired oven.
The food was marvelous, the service - even better. A kitchen snafu that might have marred the experience really allowed the staff to shine. They refused to serve a dish they felt was sub-par, kept us regularly informed as to its replacement, and compensated us generously for the very modest inconvenience. Loved the cauliflower, eggplant, mushroom pappardelle and Mary's chicken. Can't wait to go back and try some more!
we have enjoyed this restaurant in the past which is why we opted to meet our friend from Spain here. We wanted a reasonably quiet meal so that we could converse and enjoy good food. When we have eaten here in the past we have requested either outdoors or upstairs as they tend to be quieter. This meal was very stressful because the music was WAY TOO LOUD. We asked both the host and our waitress to lower the music but if they did it was negligible. I do not understand why any restaurant would expect people to pay quite a bit for a meal and then make conversation trying if not impossible.
When will restaurants learn that people enjoy music but not at the expense of conversation.
Fourth visit. Perfect each time. Love the Cavatelli Pasta!
A little disappointing. Ordered a pizza but it was so loud the waitress messed up the order. Of course we were hunry and didn't want to wait for them to fix it so we just settled. Waitress seemed outgunned. Not planning to come back.
Food was totally substandard. Pizza was edible but you can get much better in LA. Other dishes were disgusting. Cauliflower just tasted of fish. Mushroom tagliatelle was over flavored. Would never go back.
Delicious food and excellent service. Will definitely be back.
SO GOOD. SO SO GOOOOOOD.
Made reservation, seated quickly, tasty Manhattan and savory food.
Always one of my local favorites. And defiantly worth the drive if you are not a Silver Lake local. Don't miss the mushroom pizza!
Food was okay. Decor is amazing. Service was good.
We arrived on a very cold evening and the table they gave us was outside. One heater in the whole patio. Not near our table. Our table was right on the sidewalk. No closure. Too cold to eat dinner so we had to leave. we should have been warned that this was our table. Had a reservation for several weeks. They didn’t seem to care
Staying in the SilverLake area whilst on a business trip and went for dinner there with my colleagues. Excellent food, a well curated and interesting Italian wine list and great cocktails to boot!
I would highly recommend this place as a casual dining / drinking venue. Good Times.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, & wonderful staff. Would love to try out the sister restaurant, Sawyer, next time we are in town.
Delicious food, wine, ambiance. Pasta was perfect.
Food was good, enjoyed the ambiance. Wish I had been a more visible to my waiter. She was nice.
Perfect ambience for a nice dinner with friends or for date night. Service was great! Portions are on the smaller side, but the food was really good. Overall great experience. Will definitely be back!
The food was awful. So disappointed, we loved this place but now it seems like no one care.
Loud but great food and great drinks. Would have liked more burrata on my buratta pizza but it had good flavor regardless...
Saved us a table even tho we were extremely late. Truly appreciate it. Server was lovely. Drinks / wine were great. We had last min joiners and they accommodated us with no issues.
Decoré is lovely - great date spot!
Overall, our experience at Kettle Black was subpar. The food was just okay -- not quite worth the price but not bad. The drinks were the same -- good, but not quite worth the price. Our service was poor, but it seemed our server may have been new. Unfortunately, he said the OpenTable Dining Rewards we had specifically booked our reservation to use was "unusable," which was disappointing. I personally wouldn't go back to Kettle Black.
The restaurant is beautiful. We all commented on that when we walked in. We had a 8pm reservation for 4. We were there about 5 minutes early and were told our table wouldn’t be ready for about 15-20 min. Fine except there were about 4 open tables. We were sat at about 8:20 but then NOBODY came to our table for service. Not a drink, nothing. We finally asked if we had a server at about the 30 min mark. That is ridiculous. We finally ordered, everything at one time because we didn’t want to let the guy leave. The food took forever and we had to ask for the bill when they dropped the food. We had to be home by 10:30 to let the babysitter go. We get it, it was Friday night but this place needs to step it up. The food was good. The decor was great. The service sucked.
Great happy hour. Love the "sip and slice." Very nice pastas. Great vibe/atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Overall very good value for the caliber of service/food/atmosphere.
Loved it all !!!
The food was delicious and great service. Unfortunately they sat us 40 minutes after our reservation time.
Would not go back. Unfortunately, had to sit outside and it was quite cold. Food was mediocre across the board (chicken parm was pretty terrible) sometimes arriving tepid in temperature. Wait staff not particularly engaging or friendly.
Very unique and creative Italian food, good service, reasonably priced
Birthday celebration and was good for sharing starters and small plates
Music was a bit loud but when we asked to turn it down they did promptly and it was fine after that
Lively great food and drinks
What a special treat Black Kettle was for a Christmas Eve supper. It is a bit noisy, but the ambiance is very nice. Service was professional.
Food is great but unfortunately the staff was not very attentive . Was hard to get their attention to order drinks etc
Food is good but not great. The service was lacking. I would go back. Don't expect and exceptional dining experience.
So-so. The salad was fine, pastas were terrible. Weird texture. I think they were meant to be al dente but were just chewy. But the Sicilian cake trifle dessert was delish.
Tried a new place and wasn't impressed with the food. Seemed super bland and overpriced for the portion. Would not recommend.
Food was great! Service was good, albeit a little slow at times. Would come back, and will gladly recommend :)
Good food ambiance and cocktail menu. Excellent wait staff
One of the best restaurants in Silver Lake with a surprisingly excellent happy hour. $4 beer, $6 wine, $8 Manhattans... plus great food options mostly under $10. For a fine dining upscale place, that's a good deal!
GREAT Italian food with small plates included (meatballs i.e.)
Incredible service with prompt delivery of food
Would only prefer the patio for quieter dining
Inside ..a fun joyous scene
I had the Cavatelli which was super salty and had sad, steamed/flavorless broccoli on it. The pasta itself seemed undercooked as it was pretty rubbery. My friend got the burrata pizza which tasted fine but was only warm in some spots and cold in others. Loved the décor and ambience, but the food really was not good.
Fantastic Spot! Great food, great location. Excellent service .Will return
Food just ok because chef has already left for a downtown project. Feels like the kitchen is putting out an interpretation of former chef's food but without the right finesse. Good option for locals wanting a quick bit for pizza before going out. Would not consider it a serious dining option anymore
First visit - can't wait to book it again. We sent a text to friends while still dining there and they booked a table for next weekend.
