an amazing craft cocktail program and a all Italian winelist.
What Insiders Are Saying
Kettle Black is a kind-of-casual, kind-of-fancy Italian spot in Silver Lake that knows its way around a wood-fired oven.
We were looking for a fun place for a Friday night. Stumbled upon this establishment which featured great photos on both yelp and open table. Reviews were also very good. Both drink /food Menu & photos looked great on both sites. The positives- When we arrived there was valet parking. The place is really pretty, rustic industrial with high ceilings.
The negatives -
Seemed like all the drinks we ordered weren’t available as it is winter. . Not for nothing but it is California! Some food items we ordered were also not available as they “ran out” Service was ok, waitress rolled her eyes a few times at us when we were not paying attention for a moment or two. We were a large party. Cheese platter was basic, burrata plate as well. I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. I don’t think anyone really loves their meals. We were brought our bill with no mention of asking if we wanted coffee or deserts... needless to say I don’t think we will go back. Sorry
Our reservation was for 6 people. We were seated at a table for 5 with the 6th being squeezed in per the request of the host.
Then moved outside to try and accommodate us at a larger table. Where we were rained on.
The service was great and the atmosphere was quite nice. It is very typical of all LA restaurants. Nothing stood out as unique or amazing.
Great date spot 👍
If you want to have a conversation, go somewhere else! High ceilings, loud music. Beautiful decor. Modern. Hip crowd. The food was good, just nothing to rave about. However, the butterscotch budino was BETTER THAN MOZZAS. My friend agreed, it could be a reason we'd go back for seconds.
Consistently excellent. Great ambiance, staff and food. Well worth a repeat visit too!
Disappointed at the time it took to get our food and that the food wasn’t cooked properly. Eggs were undercooked with the yolks not warm and whites still clear. The wood burning oven seems to either overlook or undercook the dishes. There is only one g
Super slow service. Took over an hour to get served our cauliflower and corn appetizers. 30 more minutes to get our very bland pasta. Service was lacking. We were seated for 10min before a waitress came (that we had to flag down) to place our order and get drinks.
Great food, great wine, great service! Can't wait to go back.
Outstanding food and service!
A tad slow but we were rewarded with a delicious brunch!!
Service was atrocious, food was decent but overpriced and under seasoned. Ambiance and “vibe” are what you’re paying for here.
Couldn’t hear my wife on our Valentines date. Food came out at intervals. Quality was off. Place was freezing. And people were smoking cigarettes at doorway, left to their devices by hostess. Has really fallen off a cliff.
Everything was great. It was a little loud, but I’m getting old. Damn kids! Haha!
food solid, service mediocre
Amazing food and great service on a very busy evening.
We used to like Kettle Black, but the last couple of times have been disappointing and we won't go again. The food has gone down in quality and the service is poor. We went here for Valentines Day and arrived early so we could take advantage of happy hour. We sat at our table and asked for a couple of glasses of wine from the happy hour menu. We were told that is only for people on the high tops or the bar which is a new policy. This was clearly ridiculous and not a good start. It also looked like there was only one waitress taking care of the whole restaurant. We were left waiting for long periods without being served and kept looking for someone. I had the brick chicken which tasted bland and the skin was under-cooked. My partner had the spaghetti and meatballs and said it tasted awful and that the marinara sauce was runny and flavorless. The only thing going for this place now is the atmosphere. Management need to start paying attention before word gets out that it is not the cool place to go anymore.
All in all, great food. The meatballs were spectacular, though the sauce was not as hearty as I like, a little plain, and the pasta was a bit overcooked. The Sweet potato was amazing, though, as was the garlic bread. My date had the Sunday Supper which was also great and something we will be back for. The only other slight complaint was the Caesar Salad which had a great dressing, but the croutons were too soft. I like a little bit of crunch to them. For my taste, a 4 out of 5, but I will go back to sample more of the menu
While the food and ambiance of Kettle Black is delightful, our experience was mired by the attitude and actions of the hostess. We arrived two minutes before our 7:30 PM reservation that was made nearly two weeks in advance. We were told our reserved table was a one that was outside. It was a very cold night and we weren't dressed for an outdoor table. It seems a little ridiculous that our table was placed outside when we had made a reservation in advance. When we told the hostess we would prefer to sit inside, she was extremely curt and acted like it was a huge inconvenience. We were told we could wait for a table inside. The table we waited on was then filled by a couple who were extremely late to their reservation and we were placed upstairs in the back of the restaurant. I was seated while my husband was in the restroom and when he came out to find me--he stood near the hostess stand and she didn't acknowledge him. He had to ask her where our table was and she responded very rudely that I had gone upstairs. While the rest of the experience was fine and the food was decent, her attitude toward guests was unacceptable and set a tone for the evening that we had done something wrong. I wish our experience had been better and that we had been seated in the main part of the restaurant, but alas it just wasn't that night.
We were 20 mins late for our reservation and they still seated us. We were so grateful!!! Food was delicious. Servers were patient and kind.
Very much enjoyed the brunch here. Will be back to try dinner. Brunch prices were priced well and the breakfast bowl was very filling and tasty
The hostesses were not very welcoming. We had originally made a reservation outdoors, but since it was raining asked if we could be inside. She just replied "no," without offering any potential solutions (such as maybe waiting a little longer to sit inside or to sit at the bar where there was space). Ended up sitting at the bar and received great service from the bartender. Food and ambiance were both pretty solid, but combined with the not-very-friendly welcome probably would not be in a rush to visit again.
Love this place! The bottomless Aperols are the best in the city. Ambience and service are top notch. Highly recommended.
Waiter was friendly and enthusiastic.
Great cocktails and great pizza, service wasn't bad at all but the biggest surprise was the bill!
A very affordable great restaurant with excellent ambiance.
We went for Sunday brunch and I prefer dinner at the restaurant.
Sit on the patio if you can. Really cute, great for dates or friends!
Dinner here was delicious. We got a cheese plate, the eggplant parmesan, and the parpadelle. There was complimentary sparkling water, quick and great service, and overall great ambiance. We made a reservation online and requested to be inside due to the noise. However, when we got there, we were sat outside even though there were tables inside. We didn't complain since it was a nice night out, but later realized we should have since the cars were loud and the valet was a little distracting. Overall a nice experience. Would recommend this to someone else, but with indoor seating.
Great service for a big group. Good pacing on courses and drinks! Ryan is the best.
Great ambience, food, and drinks
Get the octopus, it’s life-changing. Great service and really awesome waitstaff.
Great neighborhood place!
We first called to make a reservation, and the woman who answered the phone put us on hold and never came back. Someone else hung up on us. We made a reservation through OpenTable to dine at the bar. The drinks were very good -- served as we ordered them. The service was moderately attentive. Biggest disappointment was the pasta. The bolognese was way over salted; the aglio e olio, on the contrary, was sadly under seasoned, with barely any olive oil, garlic, or chili. I had to request extra of all to give it flavor. And no one even asked us if we wanted wine with our meal, even though our cocktails were empty.
Great food, great drinks, decent service, but why so LOUD??! Literally had to shout to be heard at a table of four. Don’t mind a bit of background music, but hip-hop blasted at club levels? Makes no sense. I go to dinner with friends to hear my friends, not to listen to someone else’s soundtrack. Would love to come back but wouldn’t do it at these sound levels.
Very good food!
Delicious food. Great room. Oysters were extra fresh.
When making a reservation it gives you the option of BAR or OUTSIDE. Don't choose the bar because they will not have a seat for you as this doesn't mean the Bar Room it means the actual bar... where they do not control seating.
Great service. Enjoyed the brunch
Amazing dinner at Kettle Black .The wait staff was atentive without being intrusive .The food was delicious .Loved the cheese platter and the Corn on the cob appetizer and the Salmon although a little rare was lovely . Easy to park with valet right out front .
