We waited for 45 minutes for our main course, only to be informed that they were out of what we'd ordered. We then re-ordered and 5 minutes later, were informed that this item was also no longer available. In fact, half their menu was not available. This was only at 8.30pm, not the end of the evening. Apparently, their shortage was due to a large party that had come in during the afternoon. They really should have informed anyone walking in the door of this issue instead of waiting for you to settle in, order drinks and pass the time. We finally ate about an hour and a half after we sat down.
In all fairness, the bartender was mortified to have been caught on the back foot by the kitchen and did comp our drinks. But again, we did feel trapped by circumstance rather than choice.

The food was delicious - the cauliflower dish and Gnochetti were highlights. The waitress was amazing (wish I had her name) - friendly and answered all our questions. People with Celiac - my dining partner couldn't have the pizza because of cross contamination, but they cook their gluten free pasta in separate water, which meant my guest could have pasta and they enjoyed it - a lot! (Remember always double-check if the kitchen changes, but that was our experience). The place itself was super cute.
I really enjoy Kettle Black. A lovely time with good friends with a warm & friendly staff and environment.
Go for happy hour, not for dinner unless you are with people you don't really want to talk with much. The noise level is pretty out there, then they add loud music. The table next to us was shouting the whole night.
Cocktails excellent and well priced. Wine by the glass mediocre. Food decent overall (pizza excellent, basic market salad quite good). Service poor, management just needs to staff up. When we found a server they were great, but it took almost 15 minutes from being seated at 8pm to be able to order a drink (I was just about to walk to the bar), and in between it was next to impossible to find a server.
Tried it before and took a break, tried it again to give it a shot, but not again soon unless maybe with a big group or at the bar to sit closer to someone to hear and get more attentive service.

Was really excited to try kettle black, however we had a horrible experience. One glass of wine took 17 minutes to be brought out, food came out even slower, and my pasta, that the waiter highly recommended, was completely flavorless. To give context...I’m someone who finds siracha spicy, so if I said the pasta was flavorless, it was really flavorless. We had to ask for water multiple times, and the server didn’t check with us until our plates were empty to ask how the food was...
I don’t know if they were understaffed or what but something was very off :/
I never give bad reviews so I felt horrible writing this, but we just had a terrible experience and I was honestly very disappointed.
We went here to celebrate a friend’s big bday and it was awesome! Great service, food and vibe! Highly recommended!!

To start, the hostess was extremely accommodating about our request for the patio. We got the perfect table along the sidewalk that I was secretly hoping to get! Like she read my mind :) The bartender was warm and welcoming. And Bailey was a doll and was enthusiastic about the menu as she was knowledgeable. The food was perfectly portioned for sharing and absolutely delicious (highly recommend the cauliflower and bolognese!) We can't wait to come back! Thank for the wonderful service and nods to the chefs who prepared our meal!
Love the food!!!!!!! Everything we had was terrific, but to be honest, the portion of the excellent Bronzino did not live up to the price tag. Small quibble but worth mentioning. We look forward to going back.
The overall dining experience was acceptable but riddled with disappointment. We had a group of six and spent a good deal of money but were sent to monstrously uncomfortable seats that prevented us from really relaxing.
Opening cheese and "salumi" plate in fact had minuscule pieces of supermarket cheese, a few slices of good prosciutto, and cheap mortadella which had no business in a quality restaurant.
My own order of branzino was $30 and had virtually NOTHING else with it - just a fairly thin fillet of fish in an overly citrus-y butter lemon hazelnut preparation. But for what it was, it was still enjoyable.
Their $30 corkage was, IMHO, high for a restaurant of this caliber.
We had a good time and a good meal, but it was overpriced and had too many flaws in the experience.
In looking for a place that served salad, I chose Kettle Black from my list of places I having been wanting to dine at. Amazing "greens" options. Wines by the glass were all pretty terrible but 5 starts nonetheless!
Kettle Black is a modern and charming Italian restaurant that checks a few boxes: cocktails? wine? happy hour? high ceiling? front patio?
The food is solid, but the atmosphere is definitely the main reason for its popularity.
Cheese board (17) - This lazy arrangement of blue cheese, paramesen, walnuts, 4 small pieces of toast, mustard and brie was hideous. We couldn't get a good picture because how sloppy the board was arranged. For the price, it should be pretty, but it was quite embarrassing to see it come out as an afterthought. And we've all built a better cheese board from Trader Joe's ingredients.
Zuchhini Noodles (13) - Absolutely refreshing, but literally a pesto dump on zucchini. With a home spaghettable vegetable spiralizer and a jar of pesto, anyone could make this dish
Salumi Pizza (21) - This is a spicy oily dream. The flavor is dynamic, the crust is perfect and the heat added that kick we were all looking for. It was a table favorite.
Pizza di Parma (19) - Compared to the Salumi, this was hollow. You couldn't really get passed the arugula. And there was no complexity.
Cacio e pepe (17) - Their signature pasta is just an overpriced classic. I love how firm the noodles were, but I've had it better. Share with two people and make sure that every bite is lined with sauce.
Budino (10) - This is was a nice fluffy dessert with good sweetness. A nice way to end the meal.
Reservations are easy. It's visually pleasing. A great spot for the neighborhood, but not worth the drive unless you're in love with a good atmosphere and patio seating that incorporates the sidewalk, but doesn't intrude on public space.

I returned with a friend having had a good meal there about 6 months ago.
It was fairly quiet and pleasant on the patio and the service was great. The food was disappointing though. The gluten free pasta arrived cut into small pieces - reminiscent of tinned spagghetti.
I can not understand why the pasta was dissected in this way. It ruined the dish for me.
The vibes are great! Beautiful bar and overall beautiful space. The food was pretty average as was the service. I’m definitely not rushing back but it fit the bill for a last minute group dinner. It’s also worth noting that the menu online is outdated - I was planning to order the salmon but it was not on the menu once I arrived
Incredibly average-bad food. Cocktails were good and strong, but not a good enough reason reason to come back.
Almost perfect. 99% of the food was great, we had some cheese on our cheese plate that tasted like industrial cleaner. Not sure if the knife wasn’t rinsed after washing or what but it was terrible. Other than that drinks were awesome (have the vodka cocktail! It’s so good) wine was great and food was really yummy. Very trendy (obviously as it’s in Silver Lake)

The food was very delicious and came out fairly quickly. The staff was amazing as well. Very attentive and kind. I recommend the mozzarella sticks and pizza. But save room for dessert because the butterscotch dessert is to die for!!! We will definitely be coming back.
The waiter Luca was a gem. The food was delicious. We got the papparadelle and the cavatelli, and the sourdough garlic bread (unreal). 10/10 would come back!

First let me say that my wife and I both have gastric surgeries, meaning that we don’t eat too much, alcohol is a killer for us. That being said, our server comes in and ask if we want to drink something and we said water, she gave us a really bad look, then she came back, we order an appetizer and an entree to share and she gave us that same disappointment look, we waited for our food tasted it and put the rest to go, my wife was sooo upset!!! Overpriced, millennial joint, never going back

Came here with a couple of friends. Sat on the patio and ordered happy hour wine and snacks. When then ordered delicious pasta and salad for dinner. Crew was super friendly and professional. Food was yummy. Atmosphere was fun and lovely.
First time there for dinner after having a great brunch experience. The frozen Paloma cocktail was outstanding! We had a few plates to sample different options - Meatballs were stellar as was the grilled octopus. My only complaint was that I wish there was some more octopus on the plate. Great neighborhood vibe!
Great server who provided excellent, honest suggestions for first-time visitors to the restaurant. Sourdough garlic bread was a hit, olive oil cake was exceptionally fluffy and scrumptious, the cacio e pepe was perfection, and the mixed lettuces was an ideal shareable salad. I loved this place and I can’t recommend it enthusiastically enough.
I really didn’t like the vibe at this place. It was very crowded and although we had a reservation, we were seated on the edge of a booth, like hanging off. The decor was meh, kind of corporate. The cauliflower dish was great. I won’t be going back.

We were immediately greeted and got seated (had a reservation and we were running a little behind) but it wasn't a problem in the slightest! Had a very sweet lady take our drink order and by the time our sever got to us, we were ready to order.
The beet tartare was delicious and THE GARLIC BREAD!! SO GOOD! Our main server was so friendly and helped us decide on our main entrees and both my husband and I were very impressed. His bolognese pasta was incredible and the pizza I got was amazing. The wood-fire grill really makes a difference. I just wish we had more room to eat more! Can't wait to dine again soon!
The food itself was good, but the service left something lacking. Our server took about 10+ minutes before even coming to our table. Once she delivered our drinks, she didn't return. After we finished eating, we waited for 15 minutes before approaching a waiter and asking for a dessert menu. He proceeded to walk ignore our request, and then we had to ask a busboy if he could send over our check. If you do go, I recommend the Grilled Asian Pear to start. The Margherita pizza was very good. The pasta dishes are small but tasty, so if you're hungry - I'd recommend ordering an appetizer or side dish.
The waitress was awful. She was rude and impatient. Made the experience nearly unbearable. The fried mozzarella was served cold. The rest of the meal was good.
We have continued to frequent kettle black, as it is in our neighborhood, and has solid food and bar choices. Take advantage of the happy hour!!! This time, we asked for the pizza to be well done. This is what is required - we have been getting under-cooked pizzas the last 4 or 5 visits, and they have been floppy and gummy. Instead, this pizza came wood-fired and crispy. Everything was delicious, but the carbonara was AWFUL. Stay away from that one dish is our suggestion - it's not a good recipe for a high volume eatery like kettle black. If you're going to put a raw yolk on a dish, then you better deliver the dish hot, otherwise you have raw egg yolk soup with pasta, which is what we received. And, the bacon was not cooked right. And the spices were wrong. Everything about this dish was wrong. BUT...everything else is great, so we highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Great! The have lots of veggie options and lots of not veggie options. Dessert choice wasn't great but I'm picky and its always changing so w/e. Great ambience and service. Really well apointed interior. The cocktails are a must. A+ :)
