Words cannot describe the experience at Kenzo. It was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. Extremely unique flavors and foods, amazing wine and sake, most importantly the staff is so well versed in Japanese culture and each pairing. I will be back. They were nice enough to provide me with a battery pack to charge my phone since I had a long drive ahead of me to San Francisco. Again, I will be back very soon. You guys are the best.
Everything is excellent :)
The keiseki course was awesome and will be best for anyone who’s obsessed with traditional Japanese cuisine. There are a lot of seafood dishes which can’t be missed! I mentioned it during the reservation that it will be my bday and they even served a complimentary Rosè to me.
The service, especially Alexis, was amazing and the food was subtle, seasonal, and exquisite
Every dish served looked great, virtually perfect plating. And the taste, the balance of flavors could not have been better. Service professional and smart, I never had to ask for anything, or felt something was missing. I was asked a few, focused and well intentioned questions that added to my dining experience.
Quiet jazz music in the background, calm atmosphere. Covid related protocols followed throughout the evening. This was my first restaurant dining experience since January, 2020, the start of the Covid pandemic. I would definitely return, and recommend to any other savvy and particular diners.
One Michelin star? Should be two.
It was fantastic
A magnificent experience. My wife is from Kyoto and was hugely impressed too. I had let general manager Tomonori-san know that it was her birthday so extra effort was expended on the menu and desserts.
The ten course Kaiseki meal was extremely well paced, honoring regional ingredients mostly from Japan. These ingredients... fish, meats, vegetables, broths etc were so thoughtfully, artfully and skillfully combined by chef Kenji Miyaishi. It’s hard to put in words the brilliance of the meal when viewed as its parts leading to the whole.
The chef’s varied high level experiences... Nihon Uni, Tsuji Culinary School, high end restaurants in Tokyo and Germany showed up in his combinations and sequencing of ingredients. His seemingly kind and calm nature showed up in the warmth of the courses he prepared.
We also benefited from the work of the great sushi chef accompanying him.
Kenji-san was most obliging and eager to see that we were having the best of experiences, and spared the time to come and see us. Same goes for the sous chef and our excellent servers. The dining room itself is minimalist, helping to showcase the food and, again, we could not have been happier with our evening at Kenzo. Thanks to chef and the rest of the team.
Understated, low key and staff are very attentive, perfectionist to a T.. Will definitely come back.
All the staff at Kenzo were nice and the food was unique, but I don’t think the portion, along with the selection of food and wine pairing justifies the cost.
A birthday celebration with my daughter. Everything was fantastic - the food, the service, the wine. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Amazing! One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had
Amazing authentic Japanese experience like no other in Napa Valley. An experience that makes any special occasion that much more extra.
Beautifully done highly recommended the reserve alcohol pairing.
Very good food and first Michelin star restaurant but too expensive
A nice experience but won’t do it again
Food here was really mediocre.
The appetizers are way too salty. The meat dishes (Wagyu beef and tilefish) are either over seasoned or bland, and the true great flavor of the meat was not there. Plus the sauces for the meat dishes just don’t taste right. The dessert -a Hojicha ice cream and a matcha cake -was way too simple and uninteresting and it tasted no better than what you can buy at supermarkets. These didn’t meet our expectation of a Kaiseki experience.
Plus the tasting menu’s portion was small- we had to order several additional rolls. Not sure if it was because of COVID that the restaurant had to cut portions.
Service was great.
Excellent meal and recommend all the people who love sushi
Amazing time celebrating our anniversary at Kenzo! The service was impeccable and food was delicious. Setup has been altered for covid. Theyre only taking 25% of full capacity so we were definitely 6ft from the other guests, plexiglass set up for protection at the bar, and the wait staff all wearing gloves and masks. Highly recommend!
Kenzo demonstrates true authentic Japanese
Honeymoon. Absolutely perfect.
Enjoyed the food and wine. One of my best experiences!
I took my daughter and we had an absolutely fabulous evening. The food looked and tasted amazing. I also got the Reserve Wine Pairing which was outstanding. The service was impeccable. Part way into dinner they noticed my daughter was left-handed and so changed the orientation of her dishes so they would be oriented to her correctly. We'll definitely be back.
Great authentic Kaiseki cuisine. Seafood is all fresh and cooked / seasoned to balance and the presentation is impressive especially those beautiful handcrafted Japanese bowls and plates. The service is also top notched. The only thing can be better / improved is one of the desert (cheery pudding I think) that isn't flavorful as rest of the dinner.
An amazing experience that you should try at least once.
Kenzo helped me celebrate several important occasions with my fiancé and they made us feel like royalty. The service is excellent, the food is thoughtfully constructed and expertly executed, and the beverage pairing knocked it out the park. Everything about this place is simply stunning. They took great care in implementing Covid precautions, and honestly it almost made the experience more incredible. While I hope they can open up to full capacity soon and recoup the losses they are currently experiencing, I must say that NOW is the time to dine with Kenzo because you will have so much space to yourself. I am moving out of CA but this experience is enough to draw me back for more. I cannot wait to come back.
Great quality food and service. Love the changing menu and the focus on the full dining experience
Food and service are excellent. Very consistent in quality and service each time that we dined here. Great place to celebrate special occasion or have great authentic Japanese food/sushi without traveling to Japan.
An outstanding presentation of exceptional sushi and other Japanese cuisine, paired excellently with Kenzo wines. The social distancing protocols that allowed the restaurant to reopen lend themselves to an odd experience with almost no one in the restaurant, but service is top-notch and the beauty and tastiness of the food shines through.
Absolutely fantastic!!! Maybe the best dining experience we have ever had. Service unparalleled, food exquisite. We would recommend Kenzo to anyone who is visiting Napa Valley if they want to experience a truly outstanding dining delight. Every course was prepared with the utmost detail and the service matched the food quality.
Good was amazingly prepared and presented. The staff was extremely attentive and explained each dish to the fullest. It was nice to sit for about 2-1/2 hours and be thoroughly catered to. You have to try this for a special occasion. The Kenzo line of wines is amazing and their Sake selection is top shelf.
Food was mostly very good made of the best ingredients, even though some dishes were not to my personal taste. The problem is that at that price point, it is hard to accept mistakes. It is too expensive for what it is. Service is excellent and the chef made every effort to welcome and explain. Nice and enjoyable, but way too expensive.
Food and service was outstanding. We will definitely return!
Amazing evening. I don't think you can get food like this anywhere else. Atmosphere was great too with a lot of attention to the details
Food was not good. Servers keep changing. Not worth the money. Saki was good however.
For the food, I have to say Japanese food is not that for me... Service is good overall.
Also, I don't understand why a restaurant that costs you $300 per person is as noisy as that...
I won't recommend it my friends.
Spent a lovely evening at Kenzo for our 15th year Anniversary. 11/10 would spend it there again.
Very nice experience but for the price I must say there are literally a dozen or more places I’d choose before returning. Good work Kenzo but aim for a more affordable experience if you want to thrive rather than exist
We sat at the counter where we could observe the chefs in action. Everyone was so very nice- we felt welcomed. The food is outstanding - the quality is beyond what I have experienced at any other Japanese restaurant. The flavors, care, tenderness, delicacy of everything made my mouth and soul happy.
