Delicious! They even made an amazing main course vegan dish. I love this family owned restaurant!
Preshow dinner. Awesome food. Great service.
Overall, an okay experience for our first visit. This is a very small restaurant, which was fine, and there was enough space between tables, not to feel cramped or to overhear neighboring conversations. Diverse menu but it does not include any side dishes.
Our party of 4 ordered both small and large plates (the frog legs with cornbread were delicious, but quite small. and the salad was quite good), but the liquid they were cooked in was not well seasoned or flavorful. The brussel sprouts with andouille sausage sounded interesting, but the flavors just ran together.
Then there were the large plates: vein steak, whole branzino and a lamb dish, with a Japanese influence of some kind. The vein steak was tasty, with only a few potato slices on the side. The grilled branzino was delicious and the dish everyone enjoyed, but had no sides to speak of. However, the lamb was not very good, and we kept trying to determine what was going on with this Japanese influenced dish. It ended up being a mish mash of chopped lamb, with indistinct textures, flavors, ingredients and seasoning, which was disappointing. Fortunately, after we complained about this dish, they graciously did not charge us for it.
The dessert we selected (upside down plum cake with a dolce de leche creme sauce) was a hit and enjoyed by all of us.
Our hostess, Brittany, was very attentive and personable, though spread thin as the only waitress to serve and take care of all the tables, both inside and outside, on a busy night. One thing to note is the noise level in the restaurant, which was rather loud, because of the small space and all hard surfaces, with nothing to dampen the sound. Also, the music was quite eclectic, ranging from the 70's to today, but the volume kept changing, so it was distracting at times.
Fantastic local restaurant. Ken has picked up right where Tony left off - inventive cuisine with influences from around the world. Nothing too stuffy, just flavorful. It’s a testament that we looked at the menu and wanted to order one of everything.
We absolutely love Ken Love's BYO. One of our top city spots for dinner. My wife and I had the Pappardelle and the Vein Steak along with the Brussel Sprouts and Frog Legs and everything was amazing as usual. Paul and Brittany do one hell of a job. We will be heading back again soon!
The food is AMAZING! The owners/chef are delightful. Good vibes only spot.
Best spot in northern liberties
The entire experience was incredible. I went during a heavy rain storm on 9/1/21, every other guest that had reservations canceled and the staff called me to confirm I was still going, I confirmed and so glad I did. Everything my date and I ate was incredible, my first experience trying frog legs was even better than I expected it would be. The staff was so accommodating, attentive and seemed glad my date and I followed through on going and catered to us being the only ones there that night, with the best selection of music and complimentary beverages. I can't sing their praises enough. I highly recommend going here, I for one will be a consistent customer and recommend my friends and colleagues to go out of their way to experience kenLOVES Byob as well. 10 stars out of 5.
Some of the most creative and delicious cuisine you will find in Phila. Paul is wildly talented and an extraordinarily good guy. This is a fun restaurant.
With a rotating menu there is always something interesting to try. From small plates to large plates to desert, everything I have ever sampled here has been exceptional.
Loved the food! Brittany was great!
Awesome food and an overall great vibe. Looking forward to going back!
Outstanding food and service
A wife and husband running a lovely local spot. It’s elevated food in a fun atmosphere without the pretense. Come hear the chef/owner sing along to a great play list while his wife is tending to the tables. To say this is a great neighborhood joint is almost to down play how good the food is. Try it - I promise you’ll leave happy.
This is one of the best neighborhood BYO’s for sure. The food was perfectly done and the local atmosphere is the best.
Food was so good! Frogs legs were out of this world, and my steak was cooked perfect! Love the open kitchen and get staff! Can't wait to go again :-)
Great food, service and overall experience.
Fantastic food with great service. A neighborhood gem with friendly and caring owners.
We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately acknowledged and seated, I mention this because Brittany hostess/server was beautifully handling a busy Saturday night. She was cheerful, helpful, and informed us about the menu. She gave recommendations that were spot on.I ordered the frog legs( recommendation by Brittany) and they were crispy without being over cooked, in a sauce that begged to be lopped up with the cornbread that came
with the dish. My husband had the monkfish ravioli that was delectable- all pasta is made in house and is superb! Our entree choices were hanger steak and corzetti. When it arrived we didn’t know what a treat we were in for. The hanger steak was ordered at medium and was prepared perfectly. It came with bok-choy and shitaki mushrooms. The flavor of the steak was so good and flavorful- charred slightly smoky on the outside with a balanced seasoning throughout the meat. My corzetti arrived with a sauce that was unique and managed to marry a sweet and savory flavor that had me trying to lick the plate. The dish was layered with flavors of jalapeño and shishto peppers that gave it a slight kick. Chef Paul and Lisa are truly gifted and you feel how much they enjoy creating these dishes and flavors. As they are cooking they sing and dance when they hear a song they like but don’t let that fool you! Nothing leaves that kitchen without them making sure the flavors are perfect and the plating beautiful. They are mentoring Shawn who is their sous chef and committed to his craft. This group is a true pleasure to be around and they manage their restaurant with grace, love and integrity. Make a reservation now because this place will soon be a restaurant that is going to be a destination that people are raving about! We will definitely be back!
Best food best atmosphere!! Hands down just the best restaurant I have been to in a long time! Will definitely be back
Best BYO in the city. Paul has serious skills and his staff delivers with every plate. Get out of the house and make a reservation here. Do it, now!
Outstanding food!! I'm going again. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Diverse and authentic menu; great service and overall dining experience.
We truly enjoyed our first visit to kenLOVES. We set outside. It is a BYOB so we brought a couple of bottles of wine. The place is really small inside with a few tables so we really enjoyed being outside and had great weather. The menu is always different and is recited to you by the Chef's wife who waited on us (no menues). My husband had the bolgnese which he thought was amazing and I had the Spanish Mackeral served over yummy crispy potato wedges, also delicious. We started with a spicy tomatoes bread dish with anchovies ( they prepared on the side for my non-seafood eating husband). We will definitely go back!!!
Attentive service. Imaginative flavor combinations that work.
This place is perfect. Incredible food, so full of flavor. The menu changes sometimes so you can try new things. Chef Paul is so fun to watch. Great pricing too because it’s BYOB
Absolutely amazing food and staff! Hard not to get one of everything on the menu.
Excellent food excellent service definitely going back!
Music was a little random, loud rap music in this place seemed a little odd. Sent steak back because it was a little undercooked and got it back the same way I originally sent it back for. But the food was tasty and like the small byob vibe. Will give it another try.
Absolutely interesting, innovative and delicious food. I have every intention of going back to try more of their menu.
Great food great people! Very welcoming!
Fabulous, innovative dishes.
Terrible food and service! Waited 40 minutes for food. Which really didn’t taste well at all.
What a pleasure to be back at KenLoves BYOB and be treated to Chef Pauly's cooking. It did not disappoint! For starters, the PEI mussels were some of the best I've had and I eat alot of mussels! The sauce had just the right amount of bite...perfect for dipping the grilled bread. The homemade purple potato pierogies were also really good. For the entrees, I had the papardelle with veal bolognese and my husband had the skirt steak and both were excellent. We shared the chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse which is one of my favorites desserts...not too sweet with just the right balance of chocolate and peanut butter. If you haven't given KenLoves a chance, I encourage you to do so!
Best food in northern liberties!!!
I had the fish. It was cooked perfectly. My husband and I are from the neighborhood and wanted to go somewhere nice for our anniversary This restaurant was just what we needed. Small and just enough.
Perfect date night spot. Atmosphere is great, staff is friendly and very accommodating. Would def recommend!
Loved it as Jaxon. Same chef, now the owner. The restaurant hasn't lost a step. An underrated Philly byob gem. The Hanger steak and arctic char were superb. As was the strawberry galette dessert. Friendly service. Nice outdoor table with a heater, although also bustling indoors now. We'll certainly be back soon.
Food was great! Service was good. Some music in the dining area would've been nice. Overall it was very enjoyable
Fabulous food and extraordinary service!
