Located in DTLA on Grand Avenue at The Music Center, Kendall’s is a modern take on a classic French Brasserie. Guests are invited to dine al fresco on the patio, with an inventive cocktail at a modern bar, or over a meal in a light, expressive interior. With a focus on local ingredients, the menu reenergizes classic French dishes like house-cured Cote de Boeuf and Provencal Mussels and Prawns with a touch of “je ne sais quoi”.

The health and safety of our guests, staff, and visitors/volunteers at the Music Center remains a top priority. As such, Kendall’s has adopted protocols from the CDC and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. All guests entering indoor portions of the restaurant will be required to show proof of full vaccination. Physical vaccination cards or digital copies will be accepted.

First of all our server and the rest of the staff were very nice. We arrived for our reservation early because we were seeing a play that night. As soon as we were seated our server let us know they were short staffed. Short staffed on the night of a play? C'mon Kendall's. My ordered the mushrooms as an appetizer. They were cold. My wife ordered the salmon which she said was "ok". I ordered the Beef bourgeon. While the beef, and vegetables were just the right temperature, the mashed potatoes they were served on were cold. We also ordered a desert, at the same time we ordered our meal because we knew they were short staffed, Never got the desert. Again the wait staff were doing there best, the food was only average.

Kendall’s has changed for the worse. While service was good, given the struggles in staffing in hospitality these days, the ambiance and food were not only disappointing, but exceedingly overpriced. My husband and I ordered the same fish, the barramundi. My cut was HALF the size—not exaggerating. I think my fish was about 2.5 - 3 oz, at best. It was half the size of my palm. Both cuts were overcooked. It was a complete fail for $38. We also had the same specialty non-alcoholic drink for $13…it was less than 4oz of liquid. I don’t mind spending well on a good meal, but a high cost for a meal that was a complete fail is unacceptable. The dessert, comped because of the poor food quality, was good. We had the orange crème brûlée, which was solid. And to cap it all off, the changed ambiance is a total fail. It seems to be inspired by the question: “what if we did a cheap Coco’s overlay with bad 70s influences, but didn’t complete the job by getting fully rid of the old bistro theming?” In this case, “meh” would be a compliment.

Server advised us that they were short-staffed. No problem. We're patient. But the rapini was tough/unchewable, the fish a bit tough as well. I would have liked a cappuccino, but it was going to take an extra 20 minutes--no barista--so we didn't wait. Kendall's is convenient to the theaters, but it was disappointing yesterday. I'll probably head for Vespaio.

Although they were short on staff and very apologetic the staff was hustling and no one was left waiting for food and everything was delicious. I would definitely go back, especially for the Orange Crème Brûlée.

They need to open at 11:00AM on days when the Music Center has a 1:00PM matinee. Although the food is wonderful, it’s difficult to enjoy it when you have to gobble it down to make it to the theater in time for the show, especially when you have to line up for the Covid check in.

We have to find another restaurant. Kendall's doesn't open early enough to eat before 1:00pm performances; doesn't have enough staff to serve the customers it does have; and the food choices are very limited and not tasty any more, just more expensive. Sadly, we give up. It's such a perfect location, just need a better run restaurant there.

I remember visiting Kendall’s often before the pandemic, and really enjoying the food, the service, and the ambiance. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and the service has taken a bit of a dive since reopening. My hope is to see things improve as the pandemic continues to decline, because this is such a lovely dinner spot before seeing a show downtown! I had brought my boyfriend for his birthday, and although I had told someone, they did nothing to celebrate him. The highlight of the menu was the butternut squash soup- DELICIOUS! But everyone else was just okay, unfortunately nothing unique or special. Will consider going back for the soup and a cocktail!

I wrote a review on Yelp. Kendall’s menu had been simplified (and not in a good way) for Mother’s Day, solely to accommodate more clients. The food was served almost as soon as we’d ordered it, like it had been sitting there ready to go, and had neither an attractive appearance nor a particularly good flavor. The one outstanding feature was the price. Ridiculous charges for such mediocre food; if they want to keep clients, they’d best step it up.

Probably wouldnt go back even though convenient to Disney hall. Service was slow- asked for bread 3x. Food was not hot when served and not that great. Sauces on food were tasty though. Sat outside which was nice option and kept noise level down. We mentioned several times we were celebrating a bday and no acknowledgement.

In summary Disappointing! Having been to Kendall's for almost 20 years we went back for the first time since Covid moderated and were very disappointed. It was our go-to place for dinner or brunch before the theatre, we'll think twice before returning. Why, because a) the menu has been changed and shortened, b) gone are the wonderful mini-baguettes from before and gone are the yummy fries, c) our food came all at once, appetizers and entrees. Admittedly they did adjust the check to give free drinks, but it's symptomatic of what seems to be a change of ownership, d) with the exception of the smoked salmon appetizer, the food was under seasoned and bland. I had a salad with added chicken, the latter came as chicken tenders (as from a kid's menu) which were not hot and overcooked and my wife's salmon was under seasoned and dry. I fear continuing to use the name "Brasserie" is a misuse of the name because gone are the menu items and ambience of what used to be.

Unfortunately even with a physical makeover, the menu remains unimaginative. Service was decent. Had the Barramundi (not good - flavorless and undercooked) and my date had the Beef Bourgeon (chunks of flavorless meat on a bed of something that tasted like mashed potatoes. Also came to table while salads were still being finished and even the first bite was cold. Gave it another chance and they failed.

Pre-Covid, Kendalle's was was always good and reliable. I have now been there three times since the theaters re-opened and I think it will be my last. The first time back I ordered the crispy chicken which was dry as sawdust, but I figured they're just coming back and I should cut them some slack. The second time, I had a salad for dinner, which was fine. The other 3 people ate politely but was underwhelmed by any part of the dinner. Last night my friend had the chicken which, although it was dry, she said the gravy they gave her helped. I had the Beef Bourguignon, which I was looking forward to. I don't know how they managed a dish so void of taste. The beef, dry and bland, is supposed to be cooked in a wine sauce. If there had been any amount of wine in the barely visible sauce, they're might have been flavor. The Rutabaga Mash had a nice consistency but tasted like it was cooked with water and zero seasonings. I don't know who is currently running the kitchen, but they're obviously not tasting their own food. Three times in a row - and it's horrible.

This was an unusual experience since I eat here often when going to the theater. I ordered the salmon and it was undercooked so I asked for it to be re-heated. The waitress said she'd bring me a new piece. At first that seemed like a lovely gesture - but it took almost 40 minutes for it to arrive. And - it was another undercooked piece. Finally got one cooked to my taste. By that time I had to wolf it down and run to the theater. The manager did come by and tell me they were comping the meal. But I was disappointed that the waitress didn't seem to do anything to expedite the kitchen.

We were concerned because of the multitude of 1 star reviews regarding the food and were happy we disagreed with those. We sat outside, and that was the same as the old Kendalls. It was mostly quiet until they turned up the outdoor music to an unpleasant level which happened later. The Ratatouille was excellent, and the duck was good. Lamb rack was prepared rare as requested and was excellent. Brussels were also excellent. Salmon was very good. The problem was that we were seated at 6:15pm, appetizers came right away, and then we waited for over an hour before our main courses came including bread which we ordered at the same time as the appetizers. Our Disney Hall show started at 8pm, so we literally had to wolf down our dinners in order to make it on time. Our waitperson gave us the excuse that our main courses were delayed because we ordered appetizers first, which is the most absurd BS excuse I've ever heard in a restaurant. The whole point of allowing nearly two hours for a pre-concert dinner is to feel relaxed and able to enjoy the meal. Regrettably, that didn't happen. We would have ordered desert as well had we had the time. What made it worse was that the people next to us who were seated at least 20 minutes after we were received their meals about 15 minutes before we did, and they had appetizers too. I expect the majority of the blame should be placed on the kitchen because it's hard to imagine our server would leave our meals behind if they were ready, but it's also incumbent on the server to stay on top of orders and make sure these kinds of delays don't happen. Good food was spoiled by exceedingly SLOW delivery. Next time, we'll try another restaurant. It's too bad because I was a regular at Kendalls before the pandemic.

My lady friends have eaten at Kendall's for years before the theater. They changed ownership. Firs,t they redecorated so it no longer has a French Bistro look, plus some seating too low and others uncomfortable. Last night it took an hour to be served. My sister's steak was super overcooked and her French onion soup was spicy hot & mushy. The French style chicken my friend always ordered was completely not French style she was used too here.

We had made Kendall's our go-to restaurant for years whenever we go to Disney Hall events and theater events. Since it has been under new management the restaurant has recently been a huge disappointment. Reception have been less than friendly and helpful, service poor (may be due to understaffing but they get no help from reception). The menu is very limited and dessert choices inadequate. We are planning to find an alternative to Kendall's new Disney. The previous week I recommended that my friends have dinner there using my reservation - what an embarrassment - late service of food, and then wrong food and overcooked fish - what else can I say

All three of us in our party were very disappointed in the quality of our meals, with the exception of the fig bread, which was tasty. There were no soft surfaces to quiet the excessive noise, and people were not even talking loudly. I had to strain to hear my companion across the table. The only good aspect of the restaurant was the service. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, nor would I return.
