Great place to have dinner or apps before any event at the Music Center in downtown. A little pricey but not crazy for the area.
I like to sit outside on the weekends when there isn’t too much traffic because it’s quieter out there. The dining area & bar can get noisy.
Food is really good & they can accommodate most special diets.
I would recommend it to someone going to a performance at the Music Center because of its convenience, but I feel it is too pricey. I would like to see them offer some less expensive options. Most of the dishes I have ordered currently and in the past have been tasty. They used to offer a mussel appetizer which was affordable, but it is no longer on the menu.
Excellent service, creative menu, vegetarian options, great before theatre
Made a reservation a few days before going on open table and when I got there they seated us, gave us the menu - and then a few minutes later they told us the kitchen had already closed.
If restaurants can call to confirm a reservation I’m sure they can call to let you know they won’t be open at that time.
Opening night of the opera is always a great night to go to Kendall's! The opera ends early so dinner after the opera is a favorite - it's busy, full of energy, the crowd looks amazing and the staff is prepared. Aside from excellent people watching the food is outstanding. We love to share, so we decided to have a cheese platter followed by the Poutine. This Poutine is to die for. You can never go wrong choosing Kendall's. We will definitely return.
Very noisy, we had to shout at each other. But great you were able to get our food quickly when all the opera-goers arrive at once
Went after the opera and sat for 45 minutes without placing an order. Others who sat down after got food and drink and were settling the bill before we even got beverages. The food was delicious, but I will find another opera dinner option.
This is a restaurant that exists because of its convenient location to the Music Center, whose plaza lies just above the ceiling of the dining room. It's perfectly adequate in that role. The food is passable, unambitious, French-ified, and just good enough for its purpose.
The night was busy because of the opera, but it was stressful to have to rarely see the server and ask for the check. Plus we were in the strange and noisy side room on a tiny bistro table with little room for our food. But- the food was so good!
The food is good but the prices are higher than would be expected and does not match the quality of food.
Grace our server was amazing, mind and just made our overall visit that much better.
Kendall's is the closest place to Dorothy Chandler to have a pre-opera dinner that is very delicious and sophisticated in a beautiful setting. The service was below average, however.
Kendall's has been around for a while and it shows. The menu is dated and perfunctory without much effort at innovation. Unfortunately, while "tried and true" can be dependable, it also leads to vapid presentation, flavors and mediocre taste. While there is usually something to try as an appetizer or entry, forgo the desserts which are the most disappointing and least value. Clearly, Kendall's needs competition soon to up its game, but the Patina group has an apparent lock on location, so there is not currently any reason to get serious about improving this timeworn place.
Love Chris the bartender makes a great drink!!!
We always have a great pre-theater dinner when we come here it's a great convenient spot and the food is always spectacular.
A little too loud, service was excellent food was okay. We might have ordered the wrong items.
Sawed thru tasteless Steak frite!
The fish, barramundi and salmon, were not good. Fishy tasting and not flavorful.
Always great food and easy when seeing a show at the Ahmanson.
What a nice surprise to find two past employees of the Hollywood Bowl now at Kendall's. Both having been Patina restaurants (The Backyard) and Kendall which still is. Jesus and Sandra two lovely people who we remembered fondly from the Hollywood Bowl. Wish they were still there. The food and service has never been quite the same. So lucky us to find great service, and great food at Kendall's.
We enjoyed the latin fusion crab cake and the corn chowder. The steak tartare is a must, and the escargot.
Can't be beat for an overall outstanding evening.
Everything was fine. The Latin Special was just oK. Everything else delicious. We were in the bar room. It was freezing. Really uncomfortable. We should have said something.
The staff is outstanding!!! They are always very welcoming. It is also very convenient if you are going to the Music Center events!!!
It's convenient because it is next to the Ahmanson theater, that is why I chose it. However, it took about 15-20 minutes to get my shrimp cocktail. When the main course wasn't coming we asked the waiter and the food was brought right away. I ordered onion soup it was mediocre but I was starving so I ate it. My husband ordered the steak frittes and he got a small piece of meat that looked like the sole of a shoe and it was raw inside (he asked for medium). Since we were now cutting it close he told the waiter that his meat was inedible and to please just bring him an onion soup. The soup was brought within 2 minutes so I am not sure if it was microwaved because there's no way that the cheese would've melted that fast.
So our dinner consisted of 2 vodkas, 1 glass of wine, a shrimp cocktail and 2 onion soups. Bill was $120. There are plenty of restaurants near the Ahmanson, next time I have theater tickets I will go somewhere else.
As always, Kendall's after the theatre, was wonderful!
The food was delicious, the service excellent. But the acoustics and close seating make it very noisy. It was difficult to carry on a conversation without shouting. It doesn't make for a relaxing meal.
THIS IS A special place when attending the theater. A little pricy but well worth it.
We were there, like many people, to see a play at Ahmanson. Our waitress was very attentive and provided excellent service. My beef stew was great. My granddaughter’s avocado salmon on toast and tomato soup were wonderful also. This almost made up for our last reservation that 15 minutes before we arrived we were notified that it wasn’t full menu; only appetizers! Happy to enjoy the full menu.
Had lunch at the bar. We had theater tickets and the bartender got us out in plenty of time.
Very nice pre-theatre meal. Even though we were late for our reservation, they held our table and made sure we made our 8:00 show. Not a cheap meal, but very nice.
Sitting in a different part of the restaurant this occasion we were pleasantly surprised that Israel was our waiter. He, as always made the dinner before theater a success again. He remembers our drink order from the last time we were here for theater at the Ahmanson and had them served to use in no time at all. His suggestions of new items on the menu was so very helpful and we will try some of the others the next visit.
Dinner before a play at the Ahmanson. Excellent service. Delicious food.
I have a theater subscription and I generally eat there before the show. I have an issue where are sitting in chairs is uncomfortable for me so I always request a booth. In the reservation it always says it “must be a booth.” There is generally a reserved sign on one of the booths. We arrived several minutes early and no booths were available
This is the first time it was a problem.
They comped us a drink and told us we could wait for a booth. A quick glance around the restaurant showed that everyone was recently seated and was probably going to the same show as we were and we would not make the show if we waited for a booth so we compromised.
Comping a drink was a nice touch but nonetheless...
service wasn't as good as usual but still good and the food was excellent as always
Convenient to the Music Center. Otherwise, I'm not a fan.
Nice menu for pre-matinee brunch.
Consistently good food and service.
The first question our waiter asked was, ‘Do you have a performance to attend at 8:00 pm?’ We responded that we did and the service was excellent. We were given bread, water, and a bottle of wine within minutes of arriving. We were still on our salad when the entree came and the waiter indicated that he would comeback with our food when we were finished. We received attentive, friendly and competent care. Arriving at 6:45, we received the check at 7:45. The food was delicious, we were in a quiet room, the restaurant is large, lovely and welcoming.
Kendall's has a varied menu fit for all dietary needs and is always courteous, and attentive to their patrons. I always enjoy myself when I dine here and it is my "go to eatery" when I have a theatre performance at The Music Center. Thank you for always taking such good care of me and my friends!
Excellent service, great menu, wonderful ambiance. Always an enjoyable experience befor a concert or theater event. Thanks !!
Tables are too close together. Can heard other conversations.
Fabulous pre-performance meal!
Perfect location for a pre theater meal if going to the Ahmanson. Good , not great, French food. a bit over priced but you are paying for the prime location.
