The entire experience was just wonderful. It began with the hostess who welcomed us with a smile. The menu was fabulous and had many enticing dishes to choose from. Everything we had was perfectly cooked, tasted delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter was polite and knowledgeable. We had a lovely dinner.
I had my daughter’s shower here, about 7 years ago and it was wonderful. This past weekend our meal was a big disappointment. Starting with the positives, the service and ambience was great. We were in a rush to get to theatre and the staff made that happen. The hummus and bread were delicious. The Greek salad was also very yummy. However, I was unaware that many dishes could not be ordered as we were in a rush. The shrimp dish was awful-a few shrimp in a heavy sauce over a risotto. Many in our party ordered it and we were all disappointed. The grilled octopus was chewy and greasy. Inedible. I was so sad that our meal was not good as I brought my whole family so there were 8 of us. I called to speak to manager and he apologized.
Very good but electronic wine list more trouble than it's worth.
Great great service. Delicious food. Fantastic evening. Thank you!
Agnes was an exceptional server!
Have been going to Kellari for several years .Never disappointed .The quality of food is super and the staff is always smiling and eager to pleas e .Manager John is terrific .
Excellent food and service. It was my first time and I can't wait to go back.
We were going to the theatre and chose Kellari Taverna because it was located between the train station and the theatre and had good reviews. We were not disappointed. The service was good, attentive and efficient. The food, especially the fish, was quite good. Don't miss the baklava!
Only our first time but an excellent meal and friendly professional service. Being in the theater district, they know people need to get out rather quickly. We hope to try this place again soon.
Consistently excellent food and service!
I have eaten here 5 times --with diminishing returns. The last time i had a reservation they cancelled it at 5pm on a Saturday leaving me with very few options for the night. Tonight, I booked an early dinner after theater and was surprised to find it was the Greek Orthodox Easter and pre-fixe menu. While the atmosphere was lively it meant we could not order off the regular menu and could not even get an order of pita. Additionally, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated and another hour before ANY food arrived. Needless to say we will not be racing back to eat there.
We had pre-theater dinner reservations as Kellari Taverna is one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. What a wonderful surprise we had when we arrived to the most festive and fun Easter celebration!!! It was the best traditional Easter meal and the fish and lamb were sublime! The waiters are so professional and friendly and navigate the dancing, singing crowd with a smile! It is truly one of the best restaurants in midtown - on any day for any occasion - highly recommend it!
Went to Kellori for Eater dinner. Although very busy, the food and service was excellent. It was also fun with the music and dancing. We had a fixed price menu that had many options and provided excellent value for money.
Wonderful experience. Creative cocktails, we chose two that used a Greek liquor we weren't familiar with, but very good. Nice selection of wine as well, including some Greek selections that were very nice. We shared the grilled octopus appetizer..delicious (not on the pre-fix but couldn't pass it up!)! Then on to the pre-fix as we were going to an 8:00 show. Great choices, we had the crab cakes and meatballs as a second appetizer. Lamb chops and shrimp entree. As a desert shared the Greek Yogurt Cake with fresh and dried fruit. I'm not much of a dessert person, but this was light and just fantastic. I appreciated that they carried my favorite dessert wine, Vin Santo. Service was very good, friendly and informative, but not intrusive. The bar looks very cozy, disappointed that we didn't have time, will definitely go back just.
It was very difficult to get the attention of the waiter. The buss girl was great and helpful.
The food was delicious, with true signs of great Greek dining. The restaurant is very beautiful with many tables and a large bar and side tables. It’s a terrific place for casual dining with a bit of upscale flair.
Awesome food and service. We ordered steak and halibut. Love them. Will def come again.
A wonderful experience from start to finish! Great customer service and great food and a lovely atmosphere.
Great service
Delicious food
The staff was excellent and attentive and the food was A+!
Fun place. Very good seafood and Greek specialties. Have enjoyed both visits to this restaurant and would gladly return.
Service was excellent. My friend used to go there all the time for business lunches and recommended it. Maybe I was expecting too much given that there are so many great places to dine in the city . I was somewhat disappointed in the food. The King Crab legs appetizer was delicious , but everything else was mediocre . The octopus was tough and the scallops were
overcooked. The shrimp dinner was good , but nothing special.
This place is normally packed but given it was a holiday weekend we found the less than full restaurant allowed for pleasant conversation without shouting. Very pricing but you get top notch fresh seafood so that’s expensive. Good selection of Greek wines and great service. It’s definitely a go to restaurant in midtown but be prepared for some hefty prices for even modest appetizers.
Meeting with friends visiting NYC
Our food was delicious, and service was superb. We were there for pre-theater and were served readily, leaving us plenty of time for curtains up.
Very loud, even in the back room, far from the bar. Overpriced.
I’ve been to Kellari before, and it never disappoints. We had the pre-Theater 3 course menu, which was served in a timely fashion, and it was delicious. We both started with the special squash soup. It was smooth and creamy without being too rich, and had a lovely subtle flavor. My friends lamb was perfectly cooked and the accompanying sauce was flavorful. My sea bass was delicate and moist, and there were just enough accompaniments to satisfy my appetite. The chocolate gelato was sinful, and we both enjoyed it very much. Kellari remains a favorite.
I have been coming here since it opened. They never disappoint. Food and ambience are outstanding
First of all the restaurant told Open Table that we did not honor our reservation which was false and then the service went downhill from there. The food and atmosphere are find but I doubt I would eat there again.
It was an excellent dining experience. My dining companion loved EVERYTHING about this place — from the sumptuous dishes we ordered to the professional service. The ambience was great for conversation. We were particularly impressed with the staff, from the waiter to the manager, who treated us like we were old, loyal costumers. He made us feel at home without intruding into our space. As a wine lover, the recommendation of the bartender was superb. We will definitely go back here — the sooner, the better. Cheers and thanks for a wonderful time.
Excellent pre-theater meal. We notified the server ahead of time about our theater plans and he was great about getting us fed and out on time.
I was largely disappointed by our experience. We came to Times Square for a Broadway show, an expensive special occasion and wanted dinner to match. The food was mediocre at best and not at all worth the value, the service took too long, they messed up our drinks a few times and had to be reminded to bring our check. Overall a less than satisfactory experience for what we were trying to do.
The cuisine is excellent and the preparation delicious. We've dined at Kellari previously and enjoyed our return pre theater on March 24. A huge disappointment was one of our entrees, which was a special. The portion of fish was tiny. Our server was very attentive and went to let the kitchen know of the situation. The management did not handle the situation very well. We will give the restaurant another chance and hope our experience is better.
before show
food can out too fast
rushed
Never disappoints......atmosphere and food are consistently good.
Great ambiance, delicious food and a sense of eating light... a must around midtown...
This is the second time I have driven into NYC from Westchester to dine at this fantastic restaurant in two weeks.
The Mediterranean cuisine is authentic, fresh and creative. The ambiance, attention to detail ,and service from the moment you are greeted at the door is outstanding. For a special occasion or pre/post theater both.
High on my "must do" list if in NYC for an upscale evening out.
I had been to this restaurant on 3 previous occasions for business dinners and thought it was fabulous. This time, dining with my family, the ambience, decor, service, and wine list are fabulous but the food was mediocre. Lamb chops lacked flavor/seasoning. Grilled octopus also lacked seasoning. The Avgolemono soup was outstanding was was the Murray's chicken. The sampling of Greek dips was also fabulous. And the Greek wine we had was wonderful. Great place to go pre-theater or on an expense account; it is quite pricey for the quality otherwise.
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions, and have always found the food and service to be good, albeit somewhat expensive. My only complaint is that the restaurant often hosts relatively large groups, which can become loud, as can the bar. However, the overall ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant.
The food was uneven. Some dishes were good, others bland. The prices were high. The service was attentive and responsive.
Pre theatre date.
