Kellari Taverna Ratings and Reviews
My husband and daughter had a fish from Greece that was brought to the table before it was cooked so they could see it. I had the jumbo king shrimp from Nigeria which they had on display in their fresh fish display. They were huge and so delicious. The food was grilled and very healthy and tasty. We all enjoyed our meals and will be back again soon. Service attentive and professional.
Wine list organized by country and had reasonably priced bottles on it as well as expensive. Great restaurant for any occasion.
Kellari Taverna offers consistently good food with courteous service, in an attractive high-ceiling room on Club Row on West 44th Street, making it convenient for business lunches and for dinner and for dinner before the theater. Fresh fish are displayed on ice at the long counter, and fish is always an excellent choice bet here. A recent business lunch visit was great. The client really liked the fish special and the yogurt cake, while my choice was the sea bass with baklava for dessert. The only downside was we were seated way in the back. The front tables have better sight lines to the bar, the fish counter, and the decorations. The price is quite reasonable, $29.95 for a three-course lunch.
Excellent in every way! This was our first time dining at Kellari (New Years Day 20018) and the service and food experience was exceptional. Our waiter Anthony was very attentive as was everyone from the moment we arrived. We look forward to returning in the future!
The restaurant was conveniently located between the theater and Grand Central, which was perfect for our post-Hamilton meal. The food was excellent, the service impeccable and the restaurant itself beautiful. Kellari managed to turn what was going to b a routine dinner into a special celebratory meal.
Lovely decor, tables not too close together. Good pre and post theater menu. They put olives, hummus and olive oil on the table to start with the bread. Do not fail to get the zucchini and eggplant “chips” ( not on the price fixe) Special had fish stuffed with spinach and feta on beet risotto. One friend thought the fish a bit fishy, if you know what I meAn, but still enjoyable. Others did not. The beet risotto was a standout! Luscious creamy vegetable soup was vegetarian and cream free and very yummy. Half carafe of SAntorini white perfect for our party of 3. We did not have dessert, but noted the walnut cake for the future. All of us said we’d definitely return. Ps. Our food came swiftly. And had no problem making our show, but we allowed plenty of time. We had a 5:45 reservation. It got crowded around 6:30 pm so it may be a different story later.
My wife and I enjoy coming here when we go to the theater. What made this an especially good choice recently was the fact that we could have an early dinner after a matinee performance. That was important as we had an early evening appointment. It was great that a restaurant of this quality was available and we didn’t have to feel we were too early for dinner.
Used to be one of my favorite places until this last time . We had a party of 3 and we were seated at a 2 people table until we complained. We were eventualy moved to a normal size table as we didn't have space for the plates and drinks
The hostess was very rude and when the 3rd party arrived ( 5 minutes later ) was told that she doesn't remember where she sat us and told her to go and look for us in the restaurant... The manager of the place came and apologized but by then the evening was ruined.
Love this place! Was delighted to celebrate my birthday at Kellari - with champagne on the house through the membership program. Prix fixe lunch menu was a great value, as well as delicious. The croquettes were yummy, and the tuna entree had a wonderful combination of flavors. Korma for dessert was light AND chocolatey! Service is attentive and the restaurant is festive and welcoming.
This was a great discovery amongst the many restaurants in this area. It's been here for over 12 years and I'm so glad that I experienced the restaurant. The food was amazing and very healthy with fresh ingredients. Being near the theater district, they were attentive to ask if we were seeing a show but since we were not they did not rush us out the door.
The lambchops were great, the spinach inedible. I had to ask for water and ask again. We had to ask for bread and then for butter because the bread was dumped on the table and no one asked if we wanted anything else. We waited for quite awhile to be able to find out what the specials were.
The service was abominable. We have been there many times over the years and hosted a large family party last years at the big back table. I'd have to think twice to do it again.
We had a reservation at 6:15 preempt theater for 8 pm show. We waited a half hour for our table. We asked for our check 4 times. We had to run tonthebshow. It was chaos. Everyone was very nice and the food was good but it was loud and busy and the staff were not efficient. I would love to have been able to sit and enjoy the meal but it was too busy.
Grabbed dinner here while in NYC for business. Had grilled lakvari per bartender's suggestion. This fish was flown from Greece, was grilled whole, then the head and tail were removed but present on the plate and the body was butterflied with most of the bones removed. It was delicate, flaky and delicious! It was served with a lemon and olive oil dressing which was delicious - I wanted to put it on everything! I ordered the kale and chickpea side, which was sauteed with garlic and olive oil. Side was enough for 2. For dessert, had the galaktoboureko (vanilla custard in phyllo with honey), again, per the bartender's recommendation. It was not too sweet and reminded me of a ricotta pie. Everything was excellent, and the dinner service at the bar was attentive without being intrusive. I can't wait to visit again!
Worst service I have ever received. No waitress, no water, no bread for over 10 min. 2 Maitre D's standing doing nothing but seating new customers. Busboys walked by our table twice with the dirty dishes sitting piled up. Grilled squid, tough, Shrimp good, feta and tomatoes ok.
First time I have ever left 0 tip. There are so many good greek grill fish restaurants in New York you don't need to come to this one.
