This is the second time I have driven into NYC from Westchester to dine at this fantastic restaurant in two weeks.
The Mediterranean cuisine is authentic, fresh and creative. The ambiance, attention to detail ,and service from the moment you are greeted at the door is outstanding. For a special occasion or pre/post theater both.
High on my "must do" list if in NYC for an upscale evening out.
I had been to this restaurant on 3 previous occasions for business dinners and thought it was fabulous. This time, dining with my family, the ambience, decor, service, and wine list are fabulous but the food was mediocre. Lamb chops lacked flavor/seasoning. Grilled octopus also lacked seasoning. The Avgolemono soup was outstanding was was the Murray's chicken. The sampling of Greek dips was also fabulous. And the Greek wine we had was wonderful. Great place to go pre-theater or on an expense account; it is quite pricey for the quality otherwise.
I have been to this restaurant on several occasions, and have always found the food and service to be good, albeit somewhat expensive. My only complaint is that the restaurant often hosts relatively large groups, which can become loud, as can the bar. However, the overall ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant.
The food was uneven. Some dishes were good, others bland. The prices were high. The service was attentive and responsive.
Visiting the city meeting friends. 7 people. Reservation was for 5:45. We got there at 5:30. Did not get us seated until 6. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service may have been a touch slow getting the check a little long. But we got out in more the enough time to make an 8 pm curtain.
Great meal. Highly recommended. We have dined here several times and will gladly return.
Wonderful business dinner at Kallari. Food was great and service was too. Busy on a Monday night but got a reservation no problem for 8 people. The manager, Joanne, was so lovely and really cared about how everything was.
Very nice place with very good authentic Greek food, excellent service - very friendly and accommodating. Also a place where the noise level is so low that a conversation can take place. Very recommendable.
While pricey, the food was mouth-wateringly good, and everyone was highly pleased with their dinners. (I had the scallops, and wish I could have watched the chef for pointers in how to cook them - flavorful and tender.) Unfortunately, we were seated near the back, and a large party that was visually screened off was pretty loud, making conversation difficult. Still, I've eaten here before and hope to do so again.
The food was very good as always. My table mates and I ordered from the pre-theater menu which was very well priced. However, the regular menu prices are really high, even for NYC!
Went for pre theater. Very enjoyable
Great spot pre show or a long fresh fish experience
Great pre-theater choice for a fabulous meal. Had an awesome whole fish to share. Would have been nice to see loukoumades on the dessert menu. Definitely way overpriced. Bill was shocking.
Work lunch with a business colleague. Perfect healthy meal and great overall experience.
Don't listen to any of the naysayers, as they no nothing about fresh food. We had 4 people and doubled up on Apps of Grilled Calamari [amazing] Assorted hummus platter with Pita, Crab cakes and the greek salad. We were kind of full at that point but the waiter informed us ahead of time to get any fresh fish orders in ahead of time because it takes a bit of time. We took a much-needed break, had a few drinks and then did one entree of a 2.5 pound Red Snapper to finish off the meal. Just incredible. So good in fact, that I'll be in D.C. next month and I'll be going to their sister restaurant and then in NYC the following week and going to meet some friend there as well for dinner once again. Atmosphere too is just perfect!.
Food was good but very pricey. Waiter was very nice but had a very large area to cover - too much for one. They made a large error on our bill. Went to correct it and when we were presented the "corrected" bill it was still wrong. It took 3 tries for them to get it right and it took forever. They were nice about it and very apologetic but that was just not cool at all since it took multiple times to get it corrected.
My wife and I were there for a quick pre-theater nite. Neither of us were particularly hungry so we decided to share a couple of appetizers. The mezzo (I don’t remember their name for it) was fine we ordered the octopus appetizer for our entree. We specifically asked about the size Nd were told it was absolutely only appetizer portion so we ordered two. The portion size was huge - we were each only able to eat less than half. Maybe if it tasted better we would not have had trouble eating more but the quality - we eat this dish often elsewhere - was very disappointing - both as to the texture and the flavor and was way over-priced.
Wonderful meal in a lively Greek restaurant. Intimate feel to the place, despite the constant follow of guests, and outstanding cuisine delivered with expert friendly service. Highly recommended.
Simply too expensive for Greek food!
Beautiful space but find value insanely expensive.
The absolutely best lobster I ever ate! Great service, too!
It was our first time in Kellari Taverna. The ambience was great in the restaurant. Rocky was our waiter and he was charming, fun and appropriately attentive. Food was delicious--loved the lamb chops. I would definitely go back for dinner.
We had a wonderful evening here. The food is good and feels healthy and fresh.
The food was delicious and our waiter, Rocky, was fantastic. The place is not cheap
Good, but too expensive for the quality, and wine list is wildly inflated. At these prices the tomatoes in the salad should not be mealy.
Our waiter was spectacular. It was a wonderful experience as usual.
The food is very good but the service was lacking for a theater district restaurant. We arrived at 6 and informed the waiter that we had a show at 8. We then explained to the waiter that we were given an open table gift card. Waiter told us to provide him the code with the bill. Dinner wasn’t served until 7ish. We finished by 7:30 and it then took 30 min for the waiter and manager to figure out how to use the gift card and run the CC. Waiter was slow to clear tables and refill the wine.
Great pre-theater dinner. Had Greek dips with pita & delicious bread. Then grilled Octopus and a delicious salad. Very relaxing meal with great service before Hamilton. They also have a great pre -theater menu.
Nemo makes the best dirty martinis in town. the fish was fresh and delicious the, atmosphere is beautiful, this was a great find
I come here a lot for business lunches. It has traditionally been very consistent. However I am not sure if the chef or management has changed, but the Lavraki I always order came out very "soupy" (with a side of wet spinach and rice scooped onto the plain, instead of small side of horta that it usually comes with) and was poorly filleted (fish was all flaked). I sent it back and they said they would redo it - but when they came back, all they did was re-plate my old fish onto a new plate and put the soupy spinach and rice into a separate bowl. Manager was very nice and offered another dish but the experience put to question reliability and consistency, so just a heads up, especially for those who come for business lunches.
Overall the dining experience was delightful. I was very impressed with the attention to detail that staff paid to dining needs, quickly accommodating our requests and dietary restrictions. The food, form the prix fare menu, was excellent, and well worth the price in terms of creativity and portion size. A wonderful evening indeed.
Great Valentine's Day menu. Service & location was perfect.
Top Greek fish restaurant, and yet in contrast to other top Greek fish restaurants, you can get a meal that is not astronomically priced. Also lovely décor and good service. Great prix fixe for pre-theater, and on Sundays they have a lobster prix fixe that is an excellent deal and delicious. Highly recommended.
Wonderful Greek food and amazing fresh fish.
Beautiful atmosphere and excellent service.
Lavraki ( Bronzino ) so sweet and fresh!
Love the steamed greens - not bitter.
Try the Segalis (sp?) Santorini white wine. Excellent!
Kellari Taverna is a very reliable spot and has been for many years. Perfect for biz lunches and dinners. Beautiful décor. Food is always great. Unbeknownst to me, it was Restaurant Week, so it was an especially economical meal. Will certainly return.
This is a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food and wine selection. Service was impeccable.
Lunch menu included a robust prix-fixe on top of the Restaurant week menu. That was a nice bonus for more choices.
Just too loud. I was there before but there was an event in the back. It was just not possible to carry a conversation
Place was packed, but some of the staff seemed overwhelmed. Waiter friendly but too pushy, hastening is along.
Menu still had the Restaurant Week specials inserted, when asked why, didn’t get a clear answer.
Have been there often, but a recent price increase will make me hesitate to come back!
Certainly no bargain and
