Should have been better for the cost.
been coming here for years - great place for upstate travelers to meet for a wonderful meal - wonderful food and service
We went on a Sunday night, which we didn't know what Lobster Night. So we had a lovely lobster dinner. The service is professional, efficient and friendly.
The prices aren't cheap - but it's not crazy - we didn't feel ripped off.
And they have table cloths, which I appreciate very much! (cutlery on a bare table is gross)
Will be going back for their fresh fish soon!
I’ve never felt compelled to leave a negative review. I’ve been here over a dozen times - food and service is always on point. Never ordered the tuna tartare, and not sure why I would order this at a Greek restaurant, so perhaps my bad but not a highlight here and would not recommend. My waitress was super rude, clearly did not want to serve us... why choose a profession in the service industry when you have no game face and hate people?
Great meal before a show. Should have the Pre-fix menu through 6:30. Went for that and it was over
Many fish choices that were delicious!!
Perfect place to meet old friends and spend a long, quite brunch catching up. Food is excellent, service on point and ambiance just what we'd hoped for . The staff made us feel welcome the minute we walked in and continued to do so up to the time we left. We spent quite a while eating, laughing, catching up and never felt rushed. Highly, highly recommend!!!!
We have gone to Kellari several times but we were disappointed on our last visit. The two waiters who served us both seemed to be in quite a rush. The sea bass was good but expensive at $38. The cod was bland and also priced in the high 30s. The setting and the ambience remained terrific. We are often in midtown but we think we will look for other restaurant options.
Always excellent food! It gets a little noisy at lunch but everyone is happy with the food so what can you expect?
The food and service was excellent; the only problem was the noise level. It was difficult to have a conversation.
Food took so long that I left before main course arrived
We really enjoyed our meal and the lobster special dinners were all very good - we each tried one - and they were offered at a great value. We only wished the rest of the food on the menu was not so expensive so we could have tried more. We will go back for sure, but would be good if they offered more specials and less expensive plates.
Kellari is a beautiful restaurant, and our waiter was friendly and kept our wine glasses filled, but our experience overall was a big disappointment. We both had the seafood special (cod and vegetables), which was mushy and bland. No one bothered to ask how we liked it, even though we left a large portion untouched. At $38 we expected much, much better. Cross this one off the list.
Food was okay. Wine overpriced.
Very high quality seafood. Salmon was very very good, nice combination with black lentils. My wife's black bass (whole fish) was disappointing. For $58, not enough flesh and a lot of work to pick through pines. Service was attentive but food took forever to come out, which was similar to the experience we had last time. The ambiance and decor is terrific and the location is very good.
Went for pre theater dinner. The food was very good but a notch below what we’ve had in the past.
Wet Tuesday evening.
Never been disappointed here...always a wonderful meal pre or post theatre. The fresh preparations and fresh taste of the seafood is wonderful. The wait staff is very attentive. One of our go to places for theatre.
Food was poorly prepared, over cooked and not enjoyable; service very good; poor price/quality rapport
Had the Greek salad with lamb: outstanding. Great service and delicious food. Will be back for sure.
We went for our anniversary prior to a Broadway Show. We had the weekend Brunch.
From the time we sat down until we left , we were treated special.
It was a great meal , great drinks and dessert.
Definitely worth 5 stars!
PS...not my first visit. Go for lunch or dinner as the fish is always fresh and prepared as it should be!
Kellari Taverna turned out to be a great find on W. 44th St. for a pre-matinee lunch choice. It was easy to get to and the Maitre D' and servers were excellent. Nice GREEK meal choices as well.
I would do it again in a heartbeat!
We know the restaurant well.
It would be nice if it were quieter, and that the staff would be more attentive. It was very crowded and we had to make a curtain, so we had to keep calling over the waiter to take our order and to give us our check. When I asked for iced tea, I asked for simple syrup and was told that it was available but when it came, without a spoon, I was told that there was only packaged sugar. And it took quite a while to get that spoon. I think it's a function of not enough wait staff.
Pompano is on the menu but it is never available, so I don't understand why it isn't taken off the menu. And for the first time, my lavraki was dry and my husband said that his Greek salad was no big deal. The tomatoes were just ordinary.
We will go back, but we were disappointed this time.
Always reliable. Fish is fresh and prepared perfectly. Pleasant decor and ambiance. My go to for Greek in the theatre district.
Great dinner. We went at 8PM so missed the theatre crowds. Very relaxed pace. Delicious cod/ halibut/ sea bass and chicken. Everyone was pleased. Dessert platter for 4 was enough for 6 or more.
Great service and food. Made my birthday dinner special by bringing complementary champagne and dessert.
This is our 5th visit to Kellari and compare it to the general vibe of Kokkari's in San Francisco, but this time, we had a lackluster overall experience. The food, as usual was very good, but the waiter was disinterested and seemed disengaged. We did have very sweet 1.5 pound lobsters, which were excellent.
2nd try here. Waiter completely unattentive. Had to ask for everything (more drinks, where is our food, check, more water, bread, etc). Sat for 10 min before greeted. We were sat 6pm (15 earlier than our reservation) but at 7:40pm we still didn’t have our entrees (and told waiter we had theatre tickets). Food came at 7:45pm, we scarfed it’s down. Then had to ask 3 times for the check. (Basically similar situation last time we came for pre theatre). Don’t recommend for pre theatre (even tho they offer a pre theatre pre-fix), this is my 2nd time where we found ourselves eating quickly and frantically racing to our show.
Celebrated anniversary here. Had pre theater dinner prior to Broadway show. Service and food were excellent. They were very mindful of time constraints.
Great food and service. Wonderful setting
They had a special event the evening we were there and although it did not start until after we were served the service and food was not anywhere near our prior experiences. We will not return.
Food quality was disappointing.
Always enjoy our dinners here and this one was no exception!
The staff was excellent and the Greek Cuisine was delicious! From the minute you walk in until the minute you leave the service is superb! Also, the food was amazing and the ambiance was fantastic. Highly recommend Kellari Taverna!
Delicious appetizers and fish. A great pre-theater choice
My wife and I were looking for a convenient location for pre-theatre. One block from the theatre and healthy tasty Greek food was perfect. They have been serving good food here for at least the 12 years I have been going there and it shows. Service is spot on, friendly and efficient. All fish dishes are very good, the sea bass and salmon are always good. For appetizers the octopus salad and vegetable kefti are excellent. They also have a good selection of half bottles of wine, which I appreciate when there are just 2 of us. Good for any Occasion. When my office was in this area I often had business lunches here. Now that people seem to be trying to eat healthier this is always a good choice. Nice evening bar scene.
We showed up on time for a 12:45 reservation and were never seated. The hostess kept asking us to wait. She them offered us a seat at the bar and offered a free drink. Since we were two business women and were looking forward to a quiet lunch we declined a bar seat. We were pressed for time and left to go elsewhere. The hostess had disappeared and we were not able to inform her. I contacted the restaurant to express my displeasure and never heard back.
Food is surprisingly fresh, flavorful and authentic. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is a go to restaurant every time we are in NYC because we know we will eat well and be welcomed!
A perfect place for Greek seafood pre-theater or otherwise, excellent cocktails, strong wine list.
Staff was so friendly and attend tune for my b-day brunch! Food and drinks were delicious. Octopus n Sea Bass outstanding. Will definitely be back!
