The restaurant was not busy at all. Maybe 5 tables at most. After being seated and the waiter pouring our water, he came 15 minutes later to take our order, only to tell me at that time they were out of 2 of the entrees. We then wait another 10 minutes to place our order. Our appetizer was delivery within 5 minutes of our order and entrees showed up 10 minutes later. Considering I ordered the chicken, makes me believe the chicken was pre cooked as it was very dry and tasteless. The best thing about the evening was my company and the wine.
Beautiful restraunt, delicious food and perfect ambience for a Sunday brunch. We arrived slightly early and the waitress explained they weren’t open yet but we could be seated if we wished. We did and shortly were offered a drink. Thus the hospitality began. Soft music playing as we were graciously served a delicious brunch.
60 th Birthday celebration. Told waiter immediately we had theater plans at 8, and we needed to be paid up by 730. That didn’t happen and we had to run to the theater.
Food was delicious.
Later that evening our credit cards got charged 5 times each. Between 5 of us.
Several had been cleared up, by the time we called.
The manager was very apologetic. It was a mixup
With the waiters input
Great service and food
i have been dining at kellari since it opened in 2005. i bring family and clients. i am never disappointed..
Large party. Food fantastic. Unfortunately we had one server who was handling the back half of the room including a large party even bigger than ours!
Waiter was nonexistent after taking the order. Never stopped by after food was served until time to bring the check. There was a problem with the order and waiter never. Came back to acknowledge. There were only 4 other tables being served. Place was quiet. Aside from the poor service food and ambiance were good
A last minute grab but beyond expectations, food, service, ambiance...fantastic!
Get the saganaki
This is an extremely bad restaurant. You cannot sell fish by pound, $40-50 per pound, which is not fresh. My whole fish was clearly previously frozen. It was mushy and tasted bad. Maybe they are targeting people who have no idea about how $60-70 fish dish is supposed to taste. So called truffle fries were terrible. Tasted as if they were made 2 days ago and reheated in the microwave oven. The worst price to quality ratio I have ever experienced. Go to Avra instead. You will spend the same amount of money and have a great meal. Cannot even say how much more better the meal will be because you cannot compare things that are not comparable.
Went for lunch in early January which is slow time of year. Place was maybe half full and waiter would come and go for lengthy periods of time. Had salmon which I ordered medium rare and it came out raw and cold. Very mediocre meal which wasn’t overly expensive, but still not worth it. Won’t be back.
I didn't care for the taste of my lamb shank. The mashed potatoes were cold.
The service was unexceptional.
I was quite disappointed.
Was great except we were seated by the door and it was very drafty and cold every time someone opened.
The best sea bass I’ve ever eaten!
Rude blonde hostess.
Kelari has turned into one of our goto places.
Love the salads and the fresh fish
New Year’s Eve lunch. When the three of us arrived we were the only people in the restaurant. A few minutes later a group of 4 show up and are seated at the table right next to us. The restaurant never filled up. They should have sat them at least a table away. Anyhow, that’s not the issue. Service was though. There are bread plates on the tables but no bread was brought out. When our appetizers came out they collected the bread plates. When we finished with the apps they brought out hummus, olives and radishes but no bread or bread plates. We had to ask to have bread to brought out and when it was our main course arrived as well. Our waiter was not on his game. Food was good service was horrible.
Our waiter was friendly, energetic, and accommodating. He made an excellent recommendation for my dinner and I loved it. We've been here before and are always satisfied upon our return. A great alternative to the rest of the theater district fare. A bit pricey compared to others but well worth it.
Service staff was confused and confusing
Our second visit. The restaurant was much busier than the first. Service was a little slow with 40 minutes from sitting to arrival of appetizers. A number of menu items were not available. Which of course were the ones we planned to order. Food was excellent. Still a great place to dine. The Octopadi dish is fantastic.
We had a Travelzoo voucher and we sat at the bar area. Initially, we sat at the bAr but the hostess asked us if we cared to move to the adjoining table area. We did and it was very comfortable. Our waiter was on break and the bartender came and took our order. He was very amicable. Our experience was very good, but we noticed a certain pressure on the part of the bartender whose shift was ending and was anxious to leave. All in all, we were happy. The food was good, the wine, very good and the restaurant is beautiful!
Great Christmas Eve dining experience.
Sunday Brunch would have been great except for absentee service. The restaurant was not crowded. Water refill required multiple requests. My son finally got up to get pitcher at station behind us. Pita bread refill was never received after requesting three times. Long hiatus between appetizers and main. Request for 2nd round of drinks was essentially forgotten. On a positive note, when the food arrived it was good. Crab cakes and poached egg done very well. Good grilled calamari.
Our head waiter (from Bulgaria, I forgot his name) was wonderful. He was very attentive aahsmade our visit memorable. Every course of food was delicious. The restaurant has a lovely ambience. We will definitely be returning.
My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on a Saturday. We stood by the hostess stand for about 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. They seemed under-staffed and the hostess was also waiting tables, but we weren’t even acknowledged by the bartender or any of the other servers. After we were seated and received our food, we didn’t see our server again until it was time for the check.
The food was very good, though. We had the crab cake appetizer, which was nearly entirely crab meat with very little filler and the sauce was delicious. My boyfriend had the pancakes, which came with 2 large pancakes that were cooked very well.
Overall, the food was great but service was lacking.
Business luncheon with one colleague. Due to the busy holiday season, we had to wait for a few minutes but were seated in the requested area. The restaurant is attractively decorated for the holidays. I was disappointed that one vegetarian entree was not available as the only other option was a quinoa bowl. My colleague and I were pleased with the quick responsive service and the quality of the food.
Waited a bit for our table, but were given glasses of champagne for the wait. One of my favorite go to places
Big breeze in dining room on a cold winter day but wonderful experience overall.
I love this place.....it is so hard to find a good place in Manhattan that has comfortable seating, good food, and isn't too noisy. I've been to corporate events here and came for dinner with family and its great every time. Will be back again. And the hostess Mel is awesome.
Good atmosphere. Octopodi was cooked perfectly and delicious. One piece of bread and very small amount of hummus provided:( Lobster risotto rice was crunchy, which I know can happen but not at $40 price tag.
Kallari Taverna os one of my husband and my favorite restaurants. The food is always fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The Pre-theater dinner choice is a very good value. Our waiter and other servers did a great job of taking care of us and our guests. We will look forward to our next meal here.
First time at Kellari in quite a long time. I had a friend with me who had never been there and I was nervous about whether she would like it. When we arrived, we were both instantly taken by the atmosphere. It was like a restaurant in the Mediterranean. It was very festive! The food and service was wonderful. My friend enjoyed it too. I look forward to returning.
We stayed way past the normal hour for lunch. The staff could not have been more courteous and kept making sure that we had enough water and coffee.
Although it is a large restaurant, it was designed in such a way so that you can talk and be heard without straining. The food is consistently very good to excellent and even when busy the service is excellent
. We also enjoy the sister restaurant in Englewood New Jersey
Salmon not cooked well. Messed up orders. Wait staff not around much
It’s holiday and it was jammed should have expected
Service was good but long between courses
Lots going on and pre theater
Food was good waiter did his best
I usually like this restaurant,, but this time the service was not up to standards. No tray of olives, etc. until after appetizer was served and I asked what happened to them. No wine list. The wine guy tried to sell a $95.00 bottle to us, until I complained that we'd prefer something less expensive. And the food was just O.K.
I bought friends from out of town, but would not do that again.
One entree (of seven) was not served until 15 or 20 minutes after the other entrees were served. There was no explanation and a minimal apology.
Fish was overcooked, one of the quests didn't get what he ordered (ordered Lamb got Cod) but didn't want to wait for them to make his dish. When they didn't have the wine in stock we ordered they pushed other wines based off price point not taste. Just an overall very disappointing meal.
Excellent all around. Such attentive and stellar service, delicious food and a pleasure to experience.
We had a terrific experienced at Kellari Taverna. The food was fantastic, our server was helpful and attentive. The wine selection was terrific. The Kellari Chips were incredibly good as was the calamari. My husband had the Halibut about which he raved. I had the lobster risotto and could not finish my portion after too many appetizers!
