Absolutely delicious! Fresh. Tasty. And amazing service and atmosphere. Just love this place. Like traveling to Greece at lunchtime.
We had frequented Cellar in the past and looked forward to our return. While the seafood is fresh, the prices have increased and the portions have decreased enough to not make this a go to spot any longer. I'm sure this is in response to the minimum wage laws now in effect but regardless, we can't justify the cost for grilled fish.
We had an outstanding meal with 7 of us getting together. A range of appetizers including the greek spreads and hummus and excellent wine was the just the start of a terrific dinner. The server was very attentive, had some great recommendations, and were able to accommodate a special request for one companion. This place is terrific and will definitely become a go to restaurant for us when visiting NYC for a show or day trip.
Pre theater excellent restaurant.
Delicious but overpriced, lunch is best deal and ambiance is appealing.
Girl friends catch up. Great spot!
It just doesn’t cut it in comparison to other Mediterranean places. Tables tight. Food is average. Had levraki and it was dry and bony. Service not so good. Probably not going back after trying it at least 5 times and making suggestion because of location. Ps. Staff needs to be nicer.
The table was ready and waiting for us! Since we had a short window of time, we ordered appetizers thinking would come out quickly. They actually did not. The restaurant wasn’t very busy so it was surprising our food took so long to arrive. Once it did, we were very happy with our selections! The tirokafteri was delicious and the tzatziki was some of the best I’ve had. The imported beer Mythos, took me back to Greece! The manager greeted us warmly as if we were old friends even though it was our first time! We would definitely return to Kellari Taverna.
Having had dinner here before, Kellari was the perfect choice for a wonderful dinner...paired with Tony Bennett at Radio City. From the moment we arrived, our greeting was warm and our table was ready and in a great spot. John and staff were a pleasure and the food was just wonderful. I would certainly recommend to anyone and look forward to returning.
Food was great, price point to be expected and while staff was friendly, it was V. E. R. Y. slow. Too, wine list diverse but over-inflated.
This is our second trip to Kellari. We really enjoyed our first visit, so we decided to try it again on a Saturday night before a show we were attending. The service was mediocre. We saw our waiter and ordered a bottle of wine, which arrived relatively quickly, but didn't see our waiter for another 45 minutes to take our food order.
We both ordered fresh fish. I tried the Halibut, which was dry and overcooked. My wife ordered the fresh Royal Dorado. The fish was loaded with bones, and made it very difficult for her to eat it.
In addition, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot.
Not sure we'll be back.
I was impressed with the beauty of the space as soon as I walked in. We walked past an amazing seafood display (see photo attached). Two of us ordered fish dishes (halibut and sea bass) and we were very happy with our selections. The vegetarian, who ordered the Greek salad was not overly impressed. We all shared the Country Pie appetizer that was delicious. The Manager checked in to make sure we were happy. The service was top notch. We will definitely be back when in the area.
Have been coming to Kellari for many years and am not disappointed. Service was good and food was excellent. Ordered from the pre theatre menu. I had calamari, which were very tender and a large portion. My DH had lentil/ vegetable soup, which was tasty. I had the mahi mahi on artichoke in a tomato broth- excellent. DH lamb shank which he enjoyed.
Will definitely return when in the neighborhood
Very touristy kind of eating place in the Theatre District. Salmon Benedict was warm, very dry and nearly tasteless. My partner chose a sandwich which was also warm, very dry and also without taste.
The ambiance and service were excellent as was the location. The food was good but not great.
It was good food and nice ambiance, but I think they were a bit understaffed. I would still go back and bring friends, I think it was just the particular night that we went things were a bit chaotic for them.
It all starts st the front desk and even being late for my Rez I was greeted warmly and given an EXCELLENT table. Service was honest and outstanding and the food superb and authentic!
Love Kellari. Usually just stick with the appetizers which are all delicious
Excellent service. Great food. Definitely make reservations as the place fills up fast.
very good lunch great value for the money
w will definitely return
Fish very fresh . Nice size servings. Waiter strongly recommended certain wine. Charged us for dessert which should have be included in the 3 course pre dinner menu.
Lively place, great food and very good service.
HI - We really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. The food was authentic and excellent. A wide variety of choices. The service was attentive. The restaurant itself is lovely. We dined in a side dining room which was nice because the noise level was only moderate. We will be back!
This restaurant is one of my favorites in New York for a nice dinner that isn't a hassle. The food is fresh, well prepared and delicious. The service is amazing and the atmosphere is joyful. There is an energy without feeling stuff or snooty. I love this place and always take friends.
We had a great experience at this restaurant. The food and the service were both excellent. When we first got there, we asked to be moved to a different table because there was cold air blowing on us. They quickly and happily accommodated our request and were very apologetic.
Food is delicious. Service very good. Ambiance nice. A little on the expensive side.
Have visited this place many times and the food, value and service never disappoints.
wonderful dinner ..many good options on prix fixe and ala carte. very delicious
First, the food: very good, fresh tasting, and attractively plated, too expensive, even for Midtown Manhattan, but ok if you're in a hurry. But--my daughter and I--"you two," as the hostess kept calling us--"you two can sit here'--"ok, you two"--were seated at a rickety table in the way back, although the room was nearly empty. Immediately a huge noise like a running train filled the space. Construction next door, I think. I asked the waiter about it, and he smirked and said, "I don't know," and shrugged. Ear splitting. We were eating lightly, but the waiter kept trying to push larger, more expensive dishes on us, made a face when we demurred, and basically cut us the rest of our time there. The train noise was replaced by a private party literally next to our remote table, a big crowd of hard-drinking loud office buddies. We found the whole experience, including trying to fight our way through the (other) bar crowd in front to exit, unpleasant. New Yorkers and restaurant aficionados, not tourists,we won't be back.
Everything was excellent food, service & ambiance
Was so good that I signed a contract for a future date for a get together
Our first choice of wine was unavailable.
Overall the experience was very nice.
I went for pre-theater and they are good at getting you in and out. We did a light meal with dips and Greek salad. Good as usual!
The food was very good but the portions are large. Suggest sharing.
It was Saturday night and they were very busy but that didn't affect the service. I would definitively go back there to dine.
Great food, fresh fish and other Greek delicacies and a beautiful decor
Our pre-theater meal was timely and everything prepared well. Service was excellent and Victor was personable and efficient.
Food was FABULOUS! And loved that they had a pre and post theater menu!
The food is really good, and the ambiance is nice. However, service/attention seemed to be declining as the meal progressed... it went from attention every 5 seconds after receiving the menu to benign neglect between courses, to not being able to get anyone's attention when it was time to ask for the check and we needed to hustle for the theater curtain... we had allowed for almost 2 hours for the meal and the theater was down the block; Given the attention at the beginning, I didn't think we'd have an issue in the end, but be mindful of that if you pick this restaurant for your pre-theater dinner.
Service and food was exceptional
