Support Kaz Sushi Bistro during COVID-19
Kaz Sushi Bistro was good, not great. My husband and I brought 2 out-of-town guests here for a Saturday evening dinner. This place seemed to top a lot of the lists, so we made the reservation. Upon arriving, we were shocked by how quiet it was. SO quiet. No type of buzz in the atmosphere or background music at all - we felt like everyone could hear everything we said at our table. We were also surprised that they don't offer any signature rolls - just all standard rolls, which were good, but we were imagining something a little bit 'more'. Guess I should have looked more closely at the menu. They also do not have a standard full bar - but the lychee martini and the sake mojito were delicious so would definitely recommend those. Our server was a bit pushy but brought us drink samples once we realized they did not have a full bar. Overall, it was a fine experience, but don't think I'll be bringing guests back due to the lack of ambiance and (in our opinion) limited sushi and bar menus.
I don't mind paying a little extra to eat a full meal for sushi, and Kaz Sushi delivered some of the best quality fish I've ever had. I had their sampler 009, a salmon avocado roll, and an additional order of two nigiri and one sashimi. All were incredibly fresh, there wasn't a smothering of sauces to cover up the sweetness of the fish, and the cuts were resilient -- no stale meat falling apart as you picked up the filet.
The restaurant practiced social distancing quite well, closing half the tables in order to allow groups to sit at least six feet apart. Service wasn't available whenever I finished one plate, but the extra pause did give me time to digest and consider my next portion. Noise can travel in the restaurant, but the quality of the fish and mutes any agitation.
Kaz is potentially my favorite sushi restaurant in the country -- price is not exorbitant and the quality is phenomenal.
Our waiter (Hari H, I believe) was efficient and friendly and helpful. The sake was delicious, Sashimi moriawase tender and fresh - in other words, it was perfection .
Food was delicious with unique takes on classics. Our server made dinner fabulous. His recommendations and suggestions made a good meal better.
If you want omakase, make sure you tell them when you make the reservation. The food was fresh and delicious.
A very nice dining experience even for a required reduced capacity COVID experience in this cozy sized dining room. Restaurant patron separation and staff interaction offered a safe distance and inviting atmosphere. Food was delicious and highlights were the Unadon Bento Box, salmon sushi roll with avocado and side of Brussels sprouts. Highly recommended.
Always exceeds expectations!
As always, excellent service. The sushi 009, which my wife and I ordered, featured fresh, well-selected fish and imaginative presentation. The appetizers were also as usual, well-prepared and creative. My wife chose the monkfish tempura, which is a must have whenever they have it: crisp but lightly cooked. We have been to Kaz Sushi Bistro many times, and it never disappoints.
The scallop was sandy. Everything else was ok but not exceptional.
Phenomenal and innovative menu. Outstanding quality. Fresh ingredients. Excellent service.
This place has extremely good food and atmosphere. They are expensive but it is absolutely worth it. Oh man, their sushi is really good.
I've been dining at Kaz since 2002 and I've never had anything less than a spectacular meal and incredible service. And I love sitting at the sushi bar.
Delicious food and wonderful service. Great options for vegans and vegetarians too! I can’t wait to go back to Kaz!
One of the rarest sushi places that I have found in Northern Virginia. It serves high grade Sushi quality fish.
Always a great meal
Outstanding!
My husband and I were in DC for a quick weekend trip. We found this on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. We both had the $90 chef tasting menu and added our own saké. Great variety on the dishes we were served and everything was fresh and tasty. Great service and quiet. A lot of families with kids were there too. Highly recommended!
The food was excellent, our server made recommendations for small hot plates, sushi and dessert when we asked and we loved everything we had. The sake flight was fun too. Best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had.
I always try to eat at Kaz sushi when I am in DC. The toro was exceptional and their scallop hand rolls are some of the best I have had at a sushi restaurant.
Excellent Japanese restaurant in a central location - not overly noisy yet quite busy - attentive service and good food.
Fun place for friends!
Have been before and was impressed but valentine's day menu was a huge disappointment
Kaz is always excellent, and their daily specials are not to be missed.
Very fresh food & kind service. They were happy to accommodate & answer any questions.
Overall- Kaz was a great choice for a date. Fresh fish and good sushi. Our server was great and was attentive to our needs.
We love the food at Kaz. We had yet another great dinner this past Saturday. The only negative was the service. In the past it has been top notch and absolutely attentive. On Saturday our waiter seemed to be overburdened or scattered and his service suffered. We will still go back because the food is so good and we usually have amazing wait staff.
Incredible venue and amazing food with outstanding service. The menu is comprehensive and suitable for vegetarians. Best Japanese restaurant in the Washington D.C. area and one of the best in the United States
Kaz Sushi Bistro is just amazing, uniformly delicious with the freshest fish, interesting specials and wonderful service. Even the rice for the sashimi/nigiri is superior.
Every piece of sashimi was perfect. The otoro was more marbled than most ribeyes.
Great service and the Sushi is fresh and made to perfection.
We had a lovely restaurant week dinner at Kaz. It was our second time dining there, and just as good as the first. The food is fresh and well prepared, and the service is impeccable.
The food is incredible!!!! Great variety even for someone who is allergic to shellfish, the staff is lovely and very helpful and it was a great time to sit at the sushi bar and see the chefs at work
Excellent fish. The "Napoleon" is superb. Highly recommended.
I would definitely return! We had a great time nice selection!
Thank you!
We visit Kaz's every time we come to Washington, and have never been disappointed.
The best sushi restaurant in DC, in my opinion. We go back at least twice a year for special occasions. The waiter (Henry?) was attentive and discreet. The food excellent. Just a pleasure to revisit. Only the purse suffers :-)
Hanger steak appetizer is perfect every time; cooked exactly med-rare and so flavorful. All of the nigiri was fantastic. Specialty nigiri is so well cut and garnished creatively for additional flavor. The seared salmon belly is a must have along with the fatty tuna options (we got chu-toro.) Service is always so lovely! All are knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive.
Best sushi I’ve had in my life!!! The staff was extremely nice and the sushi was out of this world. I took my boyfriend who is well versed in sushi said he had some of the best sushi he’s ever had.
phenomenal service and excellent food combine to make the best sushi experience in dc
