Katharine Brasserie & Bar
Had the best time with my best friend, we will definitely be back soon.
The cost for Brunch was very expensive for the amount of food we received. All packed in the place like sardines! I will not go back!
Great Service! Great food!
Great service from Kathryn.
Our experience was disappointing. We have been to the Katharine many times for multiple family occasions. Every time we have had an enjoyable experience. Sunday morning was not one of those times. We chose the Sunday brunch buffet as our dining option. We have been to the Sunday buffet before and thoroughly enjoyed it. We worked our way down to the buffet around 10:30. There was no one at the omelet station and the carving station was not set up. We sat down and tried again 15 minutes later. One of us had an omelet but before another in our party could order the person making omelets walked away. The carving station was eventually set up but there was no one to slice the meat. The french toast was stacked very high in the chafer and all of the top pieces were dried out and could not be cut. We were one of only a handful of tables and a little confused with all the staff in plain site why the buffet was not set up.
On a positive note, the server was very attentive with refills of all of our beverages.
We will return to the Katharine as we usually have a great time and thoroughly enjoy the food. This just wasn't one of those times.
We went for Christmas Brunch because our family is in another state and we couldn't get away for work reasons. We brought our 7month old daughter and they were very accommodating to us and gave a proper seat that could fit a high chair. I was blown away by the food, it was fabulous!! The potato & pork belly confit hash was phenomenal and the brussel sprout dish was just ridiculously delicious. My husband had a go at the omelette and waffles and gave a thumbs up. I also had the lamb and Christmas ham from the cutting station, so good. The only part that was disappointing was the dessert station - we had out reservation at 2:15 and it looked a mess and picked over. The pieces of pies looked like they were thrown on the serving plates and and a few items that they said would be there , weren't - like the cinnamon beignets for example. The pecan pie wasn't really good, almost flat like non-baker made and the cheesecake was room temp and plain. I did have a Bijou cocktail that made up for the non-impressive desserts. I'd definitely go back and try more cocktails and maybe some Hors d'Oeuvres. Overall it was a nice Christmas experience.
Christmas Buffet - went towards the end of the day. Out of food, cold food of what was there, and out of wine!
Food was ok, nothing special. Quantities were limited. Only a couple of desserts were left and not replenished at the buffet. Ran out of syrup for waffles. I would like to try it again on a not so busy day.
Christmas brunch was wonderful!! The service was amazing and the food delicious!!
Christmas Brunch and it took them 30 minutes to figure out a solution to waffle irons not heating at the service area.
This place has been a favorite for us for the longest time, we frequent this on Sunday’s for brunch and cute date night dinner. Family was visiting in town and figured I show them this downtown gem. However, Christmas Eve we showed up to our reservation early and we were greeted by the hostess who let us know that we will not be seated u til the time of our reservation, I understood. The way she spoke to us was SO RUDE. Her customer service was awful I mean awful I though she might be upset to be working Christmas Eve then she mistreated another of my family members. We discussed this with the manager who said “I will give her the feedback”....either way we were seated by a second hostess around our reservation time the food was excellent our waiter was great and manager sent a bottle of wine to apologize for the grinch of a hostess they hired. Just wanted to share this experience because someone like her should not be representing this amazing gem of a restaurant downtown.
Festive! Three of us had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner. Only one of us got the prix fixe menu; the limited a la carte menu gave plenty of choice. Waitress was great. This place is always too noisy but we managed a conversation.
so disappointing! the food was mediocre. the service was neglectful. they brought out the wrong entree for my son and never attempted to make it right.
The server was very knowledgeable and if she didn’t know she did ask the chef. My food was delicious and my husband enjoyed his as well. They were out of a few different bottles of wine on the menu by the glass, ironically the 11 and $12 glasses, so the only options were the more expensive per glass options, which I thought was kind of a rip off. Instead of having 2, we just had 1 glass each, so they actually lost money on that.
Our biggest complaint was the appearance of the service staff. They were not well-kept and in grungy appearing jeans and clothing, which for a bill for a simple dinner for two at well over $100, seemed out of place. Even the manager came out in a very tight fitting T-shirt type top and jeans with a ponytail and raggedy type of parents.
Katharine's is a treasure! The setting is cozy and elegant, the food is absolutely top notch, and the service very warm and efficient.
Went for brunch, service was a bit slow but our waiter was friendly. French 75 drink was really good. Could accommodate food allergies. Would go back for dinner.
Server was rude on multiple occasions
Can't recommend this unless one has tons of time and is prepared for a very slow service. The kitchen was hopelessly behind with only two folks there, but also only a handfull of tables and less than 20 guests. We waited 55 minutes for lunch with mostly sandwiches and salads. I inquired about half way there and was told that "food is coming out very shortly".....
We had also a couple of steak frites. Mine was decent, but the other one, ordered medium, came out cold and the fries came out blackened. I have had better experiences there, but this one was not at par with expectations at an upscale hotel
Superb food & exquisite service.
Lovely meal to celebrate the holidays with colleagues. Fun Art Deco architecture. Great place to meet friends or families for drinks or dinner.
Everything was absolutely perfect! From the oysters we had as an appetizer, to the cocktails, and dessert, every piece of our dining experience was fantastic. Our server had an answer for any question we could ask about the menu and, when we challenged her to a "dealer's choice" round of drinks, selected the ideal cocktails to compliment our meal. We could not be happier with our experience at The Katherine.
The best thing about The Katharine by far was the food. Our waitress was basically MIA the entire time. The front of the house was unorganized and unprepared. After having to wait for our table to be set, we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant right in front of the bathrooms. The majority of the wait staff seemed uninterested. The striking exception to that was the men busing the tables. They were all attentive, friendly and seemed to care about our experience. The complete opposite of the waitstaff. Our waitress was MIA so long someone else brought our check. That said, the food was delicious! Steak frites and the Trout are highly recommended. The mac & cheese and the brussel sprouts were both good (hold the aoli on the bs though). Unlikely that we will go back as a couple but I may give it another shot with my mom.
My wife had the best birthday dinner at the Katharine! She and her guest raved about the food and the outstanding service provided by Leslye and Erin!
The staff at The Katharine went out of their way Sat morning for brunch and made my family feel very welcome. The Eggs Benedict was delicious and my family enjoyed the Carving Station with all the delicious options offered by Chef Adam.
Our special guests "Myles and Lianna" and the gracious staff at Katharine impressed my family tremendously and made me very proud to have this little gem in our city.
Thank you Natalie for arranging a lovely brunch for my family. The table decorations were adorable, the delicious treats were an added touch and the staff were delightful.
We stayed at the hotel and had dinner the first time this Fall. Wonderful atmosphere, service and food. We wanted to bring our children and do we did post Thanksgiving.
Very disappointed. The breakfast/brunch menu was the same and not much to choose from at all. To be fair, not sure if the chef was away after the Thanksgiving but the offerings were limited, not representative of what we had for dinner.
Service was ok, just the motions.
Terrible experience. Waited an hour and 45 minutes and no food. Expected some of a wait on thanksgiving but this was awful. We had to leave because my wife had work that night. We got food to go but it wasn’t great. Probably will never go back!
Our Thanksgiving was fabulous thanks to Nathalie and the staff at The Katharine! We enjoyed everything about our dining experience. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and return often!
Wonderful thanksgiving meal with family. I had high expectations for the atmosphere and still they exceeded what I could have hoped for- wonderful experience.
The staff members were outstanding: courteous, friendly, accommodating, "all hands on deck" teamwork. It was Thanksgiving Day and the Katherine was "feeding the masses." Food presentation was fine. I had hoped for a different culinary experience and was a little disappointed but, considering the amount of food they were generating and number of people being served, I can understand. I was a "single" diner, so will hope to go back at some future time to give it another shot at amazing me with the food :-).
Thanksgiving. Hannah have exceptional service and the good was delicious. We plan to make this a Thanksgiving tradition!! Check # 37045391. Please correct your records showing us as a no show.
We ate Thanksgiving lunch. Loved everything! We will be back next year!
This is our second Thanksgiving at the restaurant. Service was slow- waited a long time to be waited on and served even though we had a reservation. They made up for it by comping the drinks!
I think they were understaffed.
Enjoyed our evening celebrating a birthday. Great food, beautiful setting and nice live music on Wednesday. We’ll be back!
We enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating The Katharine's Friendsgiving special where 10% of the proceeds of the entree went to No Kid Hungry. The food was delicious and our serve Katie excellent!
Just such a treat to eat there. Our server was attentive friendly and well informed - excellent service and food.
The Katharine Brasserie & Bar was very good. The service was outstanding and the food was also very good. I would recommend this restaurant and I will visit again. The history of the building was very cool and the ambiance of the restaurant and bar was fabulous.
-Frank asked for water with ice. the waitress told him the pitcher the water was poured from had ice and never brought any to him -Bobby asked for his steak well done. it came out raw. he sent it back. twenty minutes later he gets a steak that is barely medium. he just ate around the edges. -Grant's side dish arrived after the desserts. -Frank was told the sorbet was mango. when it was brought out he told the waitress it wasn't mango. she insisted it was. he said he was sure it wasn't. she checked with the chef. It was berry. he hates berry so he sent it back. -the waitress took the dessert order for half the table. when she came back the other half of the table said they also wanted to order dessert. she said she needed to get a pen. 10 minutes later she comes back and we have to remind her that there are dessert orders to take. - I had to ask for coffee twice before I got it. -Sam never got his dessert. the waitress forgot. -when I gave the valet my ticket he handed me my keys. I asked where my car was. he said it was parked on the street. I finally found it a half block away. the cars were packed so tightly I had to switch from drive to reverse NINE times to get my car out.
That's all I can think of at this time.
Sunday brunch is a must at The Katharine. A lovely French-style restaurant located right on the ground floor of the historic Kimpton hotel in downtown Winston-Salem. Great time for a birthday, meeting, or date. Affordable menu prices for the quality of food and ambiance you’re getting. Will come back!
