Katharine Brasserie & Bar
We enjoyed our food very much. Great wine selections. Service was very good. Very attractive decor and great ambiance. We will definitely be back.
We came to the Katharine to celebrate a birthday and had the best time. The staff was very attentive and let us set up balloons and some decor. Everyone enjoyed their food and we can’t wait to visit again!
So disappointed. We had been looking forward to this Birthday brunch for a few weeks and from start to finish, this was the worst dining experience I’ve had in years. We ordered a French 45 to start the meal and were told there was no bartender so no can do. Meanwhile Mimosas were flowing at tables beside us.
I ordered the chicken and waffles and my wife had the burger. We waited for like 30 mins and then they brought her burger, no chicken and waffles. The waitress asked if we needed anything else and I said, my meal would be good and she asked what I ordered. 20-25 mins later my meal came. In the meantime, my wife’s burger was raw and we had to flag someone to come over. All this while the table next to us got their French 45s??? They took my wife’s meal, delivered mine and then another 20-25 mins later, her food came. Her 2nd burger was at least cooked correctly. My chicken was terribly over cooked and was not edible. Needless to say, at this point we were ready to go. We got the check and they comp’d the burger (which we appreciated) but then we noticed they charged us for the French 45s we never did get. Another 20 mins to get the bill corrected with no real care given by the staff. Usually we’ll give a place a few chances, but this place is now 100% off the list and we had been so excited to try it. Again, so disappointed!!
So disappointed! The brunch omelet bar was nice, but the rest of the offerings were just plain disappointing. Stale dry French toast, unremarkable pastries, gummy croissants... maybe we would have fared better ordering off the menu, but the brunch is definitely not recommendable. Too bad, because the setting is quite attractive.
Very good service and food in a vibrant setting.
It was a wonderful experience! We celebrated two birthdays at the same time and had excellent food and great service in a gorgeous environment! Top notch!
Service has been a bit slow both times we have been here
The food was amazing but our waitress extremely slow and unattentive. I know our food was ready on time but it took her so long to go get it and bring it to the table.
The food was amazing though
Great pork chops and wonderful wait staff. Beautiful building in the historic RJ Reynolds building, note The Cardinal.
Outstanding service, food, wine, and ambiance. Steak Frites was among the best prepared we have ever had; and the locally-sourced trout was amazing. Terrific experience all around and will certainly return soon. Kudos to the chef and staff!
Katharine’s is great for a date night or anniversary night. The escargot appetizer is the most delicious escargot I’ve had in America!! The trout was outstanding and perfectly filling but still light. The wait staff is attentive and sweet and the overall style of the restaurant is elegant and clean. Totally recommend.
We were disappointed with the food and service. Neither my appetizer nor entree was served hot and the fried brussel sprouts were served (amazingly) burnt black and not hot. The bottom line is there was no quality control in the kitchen, which is a shame because there are so many other great options in Winston-Salem. I cannot fathom how Katherine's will remain open much longer.
Great service by Audra , DELICIOUS food and wonderful environment
Nice ambiance. Lots of staff, but not busy. Seafood was very good otherwise wait staff very inattentive and forgetful. Drinks empty and sides disappointing. Brussel sprouts good, but Mac n Cheese below average. Be prepared for a thirsty two hours. I am hopeful that this was just an off night.
Very disappointed in our experience. We waited 45 minutes between our salad and dinner entrees. The table seated a half an hour after us were served their entrees 15 minutes before ours. I just ordered bowl of soup.
Lower the music volume. Hard to converse. Bring back opera cake.
Birthday Sunday Brunch. Brunch was $25 a head. Advertised as a French Restaurant. Food was average, omelet station was the only thing that was decent. Pastries were store bought frozen then thawed for consumption.
Had better breakfast at Denny’s for $8 a head. Can’t speak to lunch or Dinner, but if anything like brunch, I would not recommend.
Beautiful restaurant. Lively atmosphere. Menu both authentic and current. Service haphazard, a big drawback on otherwise great experience.
Great service(Andra) and great food!
Great food and good service. Our waitress sorta forgot about us towards the end of the meal when we actually needed an item, but overall, a good dinner out.
Great food, sophisticated atmosphere. Free valet is a plus.
Link from Open table takes you to the wrong location.
Excellent service....highly trained staff! We enjoyed it! Oh and the food was awesome. Great presentation.
Our server was Katie and she was fantastic!! We have eaten here many times but this was by far our best experience. The scallops were delicious and a recommend they be out on the menu as a regular item. I would order these every time. My husband had the flank and it was perfect. We don’t usually get dessert but had the Opera cake and another chocolate dessert that were both perfect. Katie was also very knowledgeable on the appropriate cocktail for my husband and I just by what we told her we normally drink. My birthday is coming up in a few and I would love to try and come for dinner again to celebrate.
Absolutely wonderful meal! We enjoyed a stop in the bar area as we waited for our guest to arrive. Our bartender recommended a local draft beer to try and we took him up on his offer of happy hour oyster special. When we were ready for our table, we were warmly greeted by the host with "I hear we are celebrating a birthday tonight!" (a nice surprise for my sister) Our meals were fantastic and our server was spot on for each recommendation. As an added surprise, our server arrived at the end of the meal with a celebratory candle and slice of cake for the birthday girl.
An overall wonderful evening!
Wonderful food, fabulous wine, and great service..we will definitely be back!
From the first greeting to the final farewell, the staff was top notch and very attentive without being obtrusive. The food was some of the best I have ever eaten at a French based restaurant. Attention to detail was absolute. From the horderves to the final touch, the desert and coffee, I could not have asked for better flavor or quality. I will definitely be a frequent guest.
Always enjoy celebrating milestone dates at Katherine's! Staff is accommodating and my friends and I are able to relax and enjoy ourselves.
I love the valet parking!!!!😀💕
Terribly haphazard, unenergetic, and inattentive service and pacing. The billing process and splitting of bills was convoluted at best. The restaurant was perhaps 40% full and it took well over 2 hours for our main dishes to be served despite only having a salad as the first course. Part of our party parceled out to the bar to collect drinks because the waitress took so long to tend to our table after being seated. I received my drink order 30 minutes late because it was never originally placed. Waitress never reapproached half the table for drinks and two of us didn't have the chance to order for well over an hour after the first. The food was 7 out of 10 (I suppose my dish had been sitting under the heat lamps for so long that the sauce originally poured over the steak had migrated and soaked half the fries), and the interior design excellent, however neither outweigh the inadequacy of the poor service experience.
I was hesitant to try Katharine as some recent reviews were poor. My spouse and I had a wonderful experience. The room is lovely and our dinner was excellent. Our server, Kate, arrived promptly upon our arrival to offer cocktails and give menu suggestions. She carefully timed the delivery of our courses to insure that we weren't rushed through our meal. The busman efficiently delivered addictively good bread and regularly refilled water glasses. We were offered, but declined, dessert. We will certainly return to Katharine when visiting Winston!
We were staying at The Kimpton Cardinal and picked up our granddaughter from STEM camp. Katharine’s is truly an amazing dining experience.
We had dinner on a Wed. evening. We had the weekly special, which was boulibaise
Great place- beware of pricing on the wine list.
Jimmy seemed upset when I asked him to repeat his name. There was a beggar who should never have been allowed to make it past the front door. Someone other than Jimmy asked me if I wanted another mimosa.
We were first to arrive for lunch, party of 2 and it took 30 minutes to receive 2 salads and a side of brussel sprouts.
The chefs and staff were talking and laughing loudly.... waiting 15 minutes before starting our order.
It is a shame, the setting is lovely.
Slow service considering there were only 3 tables to serve. Food is disgusting. Nothing about this place is good. Plus it smells like cigarettes, ugh! The only one good thing is the lady server she was the only one attentive. Will not come back and will not recommend this place to my friends and colleagues.
I called the restaurant to ask if they could prepare a vegan meal for our group of seven. The first person I spoke to was very rude and clearly had no idea what “vegan” even meant. She said no, they had nothing vegan. I asked to speak to a manager and she hung up on me. I called right back and did speak to a manager. She assured me that the chef would prepare something for us. When we arrived, the chef (Robert Solis) came out to meet us and explain what he had prepared for us. We were blown away by the presentation and flavors of this exquisite dish. It was a tofu in a lemongrass sauce, with carrots and vegetables. It was just exquisite! There was also a lovely summer tomato salad. Really impressed at the effort he put in to preparing a meal for our vegan family. Will most certainly return when we are in Winston Salem again.
Thank you for helping us celebrate with my parents
The food was excellent and our server was super nice! However, the overall service was slow and the dress code of "Business Casual" was not enforced. The restaurant Overall, I felt like I was at O'Charley's.
