Yet another perfect night at The Katherine. First off, great job on improving the noise level. This time accompanied by two of our four boys, our 25 year old and 9 year old. Francis, the server was spectacular (as always) in his attentiveness and knowledge of the menu and cocktails. We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell, split evenly between Blue Point, Virginia, Washington and a Cape Cod variety that was new to us called Big Red. So fresh and briny with a perfectly spicy mignonette to drizzle over them. Next, the cheese plate with crostini. Four nice triangles of cheese, hard to soft, tangy to mellow. For dinner the youngest had his standby, mussels in a lemon based white broth accompanied by frites normal with a side of mayonnaise. And he isn't even from Northern France : ). The oldest had a the burger with frites with truffle aioli. I had the Rainbow trout for the first time. Amazingly done with a butter sauce and olives. Fish so soft it seemed to be a taste melting in the mouth. The youngest ended the night with the Fruit accompanied Flan whiled Number one and I enjoyed a glass apiece of Port. Kudos again to the kitchen staff, always fun to see them working in unison! See you again very soon.
Dinner was good and so was the service. Love the ambiance but was sad that they have eliminated some of the best drinks off the menu!
We were seated w/out menus and then we had to ask for someone to wait on us after 10-15 minutes. The server never came back to check on us after the meal was served and it took us flagging her down to let her know that one of the ingredients was missing from my wife's dish. The server brought the wrong check and then came back to the table with the correct check.
Unfortunately we have had other such experiences there and although we were hoping they would have improved the quality of the staff it appears that it is not going to happen. We will not be returning. Not a pleasant experience for a Mother's Day celebration.
We enjoyed our Mother's Day brunch - it was lovely. The food was great, the service was very good. We will return!
We were pretty disappointed with our Mother’s Day Brunch experience at The Katharine. Our waiter gave us no information about what was available at the buffet, and in fact barely acknowledged our presence. We were served our mimosas without being told that a Bellini Bar was available...but it didn’t end up making much of a difference, because I didn’t see anyone serving at the bar any time I passed by it. The coffee we ordered never came to the table. The omelets were good, as were many of the dishes at the regular buffet: bacon, link sausage, and potatoes. But the lamb from the carving station was overdone, dry...and that was when we were finally able to find someone to carve it. The pastries were pretty pedestrian. Better meals and experiences are available in this town for less than half the price.
We went for the mother's day brunch, it was setup as a buffet and some places just shouldn't do buffets. We have had breakfast here many times but this was subpar. It was also misrepresented that the "Bellini" bar was 11 dollars all you can drink. It was told to us until after several people of our party had made multiple trips that it was 11 dollars each trip. We have enjoyed the Katherine in the past. But this was a miss.
Excellent as usually. They have the standard southern menu, but better prepared than most places around town. Historic accents and artful decor. I can eat in a hole in the wall, as long as the food is good... this is not a hole in the wall.
Great food. Great service. Great value. The environment is quite stunning. While parking is not necessarily "free", it is located near the restaurant.
The food was outstanding except the pork chop was over cooked.
This was our anniversary dinner on a Wednesday evening. Sat in a cozy booth. All our expectations were met. Food was delicious. Service was first class. Couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
What a lovely evening with friends. Top quality ingredients. Great atmosphere, service was okay. Some of the dishes where overly seasoned with salt.
My parents and I were really disappointed in our Sunday brunch experience here. It’s clear they just expect people to go for the buffet and I think we caught them off guard asking to order off the menu. My parents each got the chicken and waffles and I got the Cobb salad. I really wish I had taken a picture. The fried chicken came out looking burnt and soggy at the same time (seems impossible but true). The waiter seemed unfazed. My Cobb salad looked pitiful (think grocery bag salad) and had 5 small torn pieces of chicken on top. When asked how we were enjoying the meal, we expressed or disappointment and were met with disinterest and apathy.
Very disappointed We went for brunch and the buffet looked terrible so we ordered from the menu My sister ordered Eggs Benedict and the english muffin was soggy and without hollandaise sauce Hamburger was literally raw in the center I sent back the French fries because they were soggy The waiter took them off my plate and when they came back were too hard to eat Live music was great
Great drinks, great meals, stellar company.
Excellent food and environment....hotel lobby was very impressive.
Great service and great food.
Server was good. Never saw a manager- maybe thats why the server never told anyone about our not so subtle hints that things werent good. Place was busy, the food was awful. Not alot of it is made there which is always disappointing.
Very disappointing. Table was not ready when we arrived waited 20 minutes. Drinks arrived 25 minutes after we ordered. Menu is limited and my food was average. Needed more staff for busing and setting up. Lots of confusion.
Food was terrible.
Wonderful food and service!
The Italian based menu was very interesting and creative. There were many choices of dishes in different portion sizes and price points. It was so hard to decide what to order! My husband had beautiful homemade wood fired mushroom pizza while I had a small size portion of the pappadelle with duck ragout. The restaurant was busy but quiet and we had excellent service. I would frequent this restaurant regularly if I lived in Harrisburg.
The service is always great. Knowledgeable wait staff and friendly. This was my daughter’s prom and they were treated exceptionally well. That’s not always the case with teens.
We enjoyed our dinner experience. Our server’s knowledge of the menu was impressive and he was very attentive to our needs. The resturaunt has very high end atmosphere. The habanero margarita knocked my socks off.
We frequent Kathrines because the dinning experience is the best in Winston Salem. From the chef to the hostess, this team is top notch! We eat a plant based diet and they always accommodate with the chef always preparing a unique dish that is unbelievable. Great food, great team, incredible dinning!
Today was the worst experience I’ve ever had at this restaurant. It missed the mark on service and food. It seemed the food was prepared the night before and slightly warmed. The food was cold and stale. Our drinks were terrible and the service was so bad. I am not going back.
Service and food excellent. The efforts that have been made to cut down on the noise level were noticed.
Great cocktails & wine. Enjoyed the oysters, soup and cheese plate. Service with Eric was great!
Very disappointing. Had a table of 6 of us for lunch and we had to keep a look-out for the waiter because it appeared he was the only waiter for lunch. Quality of food was very average.
It was embarrassing for our out-of-town guests.
We stay at the Kimpton regularly and eat at the Katharine most times. The food quality this visit was noticeably lower than it used to be. Service was fine, but we felt we'd wasted our "good dinner" night. Nothing specific, just bland and not very tasty overall. We were a group of 4 who ordered soups or salads, and then a pork dish, chicken dish, and steak dish. Across the board, no one was thrilled with anything they ate. Maybe they were having an off night? Whatever the reason, we'll be going to one of the other nice restaurants nearby the next time we are in town.
It was a nice place for a quiet dinner with family. Not busy at all. Hopefully it will make it.
Excellent dinner and our service was great. The only complaint would be the 25 dollar cake cutting fee for 9 people. Not at all reasonable.
Very good and enjoyed it. Great Bar and food was excellent. Service was great.
Second time they’re not impressed with the food but had great service
Nice upscale restaurant located in the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel (Reynolds Building). Food is very good. Service is great. It is expensive. Also a little noisy for a upscale place.
Our group arrived at 12noon; there were 2 individual people eating; we ordered from "express lunch" menu; it was 28 minutes later that we received our lunch; 2 ladies ordered the salad/w chicken, only had 1 order available, one opted for a garden salad; chicken must have been pre-breaded from a box; very limited menu someone in lower bar area with a ladder working on something. We would not recommend or consider for lunch due to overall experience.
Positive - server was very nice and professional.
Loud, cavernous space with few diners and a loud open kitchen with loud “Top 40 radio” music blaring. We were seated at a table too big for our group so we couldn’t hear each other at all. The salads were either over or underdressed, the entree recommended by our server was inedible. Our server was well meaning but missed two of our orders so the manager comped us one of our entrees.
Located in the lovely historic Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, the atmosphere is gorgeous. Visiting from out of town, my husband ordered Eggs Florentine and I ordered Tomatos and Madrange Ham Omelette. His was delicious. Mine was fine. Nothing special or interesting and light on tomatoes and ham. But it could have been a tame selection. Mine came with a side of potatoes accompanied by a large ramekin of ketchup, all on the same plate...which made it the focal point of my meal, which was just weird. Service was ok, not spectacular. Barring the idiosyncrasy, it is a place I would try again.
Great cuisine and great service, will be back. Thank you.
They brought us complimentary champagne for our special occasion! Very thoughtful! Beautiful ambiance!
