Very impressed with wait staff and menu will be returning.
I want to love this place, and keep trying it, hoping it will get better, friends had told us to avoid it. But the menu sounds so much better than the execution—nothing was properly seasoned, the pastas arrived barely lukewarm, and none of the flavors in the salads or entrees lived up to the promise of the descriptions. On the plus side, it’s a good atmosphere, and the service was really great. Probably best as a place for drinks rather than dinner.
Had great raw oyster and the foods taste amazing! Highly recommend this place.
Really good food. I stay at this hotel a few times a year and always make sure to eat here.
Wonderful restaurant found on google. We were looking for a nice dinner nearby and found this place by Kimpton hotel. The service is 5 stars where the waitress and busboy were constantly refill out water glasses. The food was amazing except for my son’s steak frits where the steak was bit burn in the outside. My bouillaisse was delicious With nice pan sear fish, jumbo shrimps and some mussels, however it was lack of any sauce. My husband had a wonderful crunch roasted chicken entree. We had sorbet and cream Carmel with thyme infused plum. All delicious. I definitely would come back when we are back visit in the area.
Evening at the Kimpton for Anniversary
Food was creative and tasty without being too overbearing!
Excellent service along with a complimentary birthday champagne toast made for a perfect evening.
We had great service and were not constantly bothered with "How are we doing?"
Vina had the pork belly then the carbonara special with shrimp and I had 6 oysters (3 from VA and 3 from PEI; I prefer the PEI - saltier!) followed by the NY strip, all excellent!
We shared a flan for desert with cooked pear - wonderful.
All in all a great way to celebrate our 49th Anniversary.

Food was mediocre, service was excruciatingly slow. Do not recommend this place.
The wait staff was very friendly and initial ordering for the holiday Thanksgiving meal went quickly but then it took nearly an hour for the food to come. It was good enough but not great. The turkey just was not the best ever and we were expecting a lot from this chef with his credentials. My turkey serving was mostly dark meat as was my husbands and my daughter got a heaping pile of just white meat. The drinks were very creative for those who had them and because of the slowness of service a bit of the meal was compted. For a holiday meal I did not have to cook it was a nice change.
Our first time. We'll be back! Katherine's is a very special place.
This was our first experience at Catherine’s but we will be back. Good appetizers, raw bar and salads. I was craving Bouillabaise. It was a great experience for my wife and me and the couple who joined us.
The aesthetic of the restaurant and the atmosphere is carefully curated and beautiful. The bartenders were very attentive. However, our dining experience was sub-par. When we were told our table would be ready in five minutes, it was actually twenty minutes later that we were seated. Although the restaurant was busy, it was still disappointing that gaining the waiter’s attention was so difficult. The steaks were unevenly cooked and the texture of the fries was off. Overall, our group was underwhelmed and won’t return soon.
Food was not good. Not even the salad. Tasteless. Restaurant smelled like dirty rags.
Knowledgeable wait staff. Good serving anticipation. Great appetizer and dinner selections
We have been to the Katherine a few times now and really love the food and vibe but every time the valet is terrible. They don't open your doors and they almost drove away with a door open because I errantly assumed they would shut it after me. Our yelling is the only thing that stopped this. This may be the hotels staff and not the restaurants staff but either way its unacceptable. Also for the 1st time our service wasn't great. Our server forgot drinks and didn't return for 30 minutes after taking our appetizers off the table to take our entree order. I hope this was just a one-off and not the new norm. As I said before we typically rave about this restaurant but last night was lack luster.
Loved our waiter!
Overall, a nice place. I ordered the flat iron steak medium, but it came barely cooked. The inside was still red and gummy. It was raw enough the waitress noticed as she walked by without me even saying anything. The Borstch sauce on my wife’s salmon took over the plate because they poured so much on. But the salmon itself was delicious. For the most part the food was really good and the service was responsive and friendly.
Went for brunch on Saturday ... limited menu but all good.. they do have a brunch bar but we were not that hungry.. surprised and pleased they had a jazz combo...also on Sunday
Service was outstanding! I gave them my choices and waiters decision was superb! My medium rare duck dish was beyond many restaurants in many states I have traveled to. Valet parking service was great as well, fast and friendly. I almost forgot... drinks are a must have! I went twice and I want to brag about a certain drink but every glass I have had took me for a surprise. Try a random one or ask for advice, you’re going to love it. Eat, have fun and be ready to come back!
Was awesome... great service and food was delicious. This restaurant has struggled to get all the elements in place and I this they have finally hit there stride. Definitely recommending my friends pay the Katherine a visit to see how they’ve improved on all fronts.
What a gem! Delicious menu--classic French bistro food in an elegant setting. The wait staff was wonderful: attentive but not intrusive and very knowledgable. Even when the restaurant was almost full, it was possible to have a good conversation. And they offer two hours of free valet parking! We only wish we lived closer to Winston-Salem to be able to come more often.
The Duck and the Salmon dishes were excellent. Portions are not large but the are fulfilling. Escargot was tasty. The Blackstrap Painkiller cocktail is better without the nutmeg which they used way too much of.
As a local, this was our first visit to The Katherine to celebrate a birthday. It's an above-average hotel eatery with very good service and delicious food. We asked for a quiet table for two, but due to the energetic nature of this restaurant/bar, that did not happen. If you want a bustling location that business people frequent, then The Katherine is just the place for you. However, not the place to go for a romantic dinner for two.
Love the ombisnce as you do not feel you are living in a small town like Winston Salem! Me and my guests all loved this part! But food needs to improve! Soetizers were good but steaks 👎🏻Was a No No! Overall needs improvement in the entree menus and quality!
SO GOOD. An absolute must when in town for High Point! It’s such a treat- the interiors are amazing, the food is fabulous and it’s an all around great experience. Yay! Love this place.
So so brunch. Nothing special. Food on the hot buffet was not hot. Service was very slow for drink refill and I asked for ketchup that never came. Maybe better if you ordered off the menu. This is my second visit here and I’ve not been very impressed either time. Probably won’t give it a third try.
French food with a southern twist or southern food with a French twist, you decide! Katharine is a great place to dine, the service is stellar and the food nothing short of amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Our first experience at The Katharine was outstanding! Unfortunately, this time it was well below expected. The fish entree was good but it was accompanied by fingerling potatoes (make that a small fingerling potato cut into thirds) and crispy artichokes that were unpleasant. The overpriced dessert lime custard was flavorless, served on a cardboard-like pastry and nowhere near the quality expected of a $10 dessert. While we would like to support downtown WS businesses, we will unlikely return anytime soon.
It was OK. Everyone enjoyed their food. The service was not the same as the first time I was at the Katharine Brasserie. The first time I hosted a dinner, this time a lunch.
Absolutely outstanding! We were visiting Winston-Salem for two days. After dining there the first night, we looked at other menus on Open Table, but couldn’t find anything that could compete with Katharine’s, so we went back! The meal starts with the crispiest French baguette and salted butter - mmmmm! The French onion soup is better than any I’ve had in Paris. The spring vegetables in herb butter were so delicious we ordered them both nights! The spaetzle accompanying the schnitzel was sautéed to perfection. Don’t miss this gem!
Went to Katharine's for my wife's birthday dinner. It was one of the first cool nights of fall, so we were very comfortable sitting outside on the patio. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was quiet but not dead. I had the most tender short ribs and my wife had lobster gnocchi obviously homemade and delicious. The Reynolds Building is my favorite in downtown Winston Salem, and Katharine fits perfectly into the history and ambiance of the site.
Katharine’s is a great place to celebrate your anniversary or any special occasion. The food is excellent and the service was outstanding!
It was delicious and the atmosphere was fabulous! Will highly recommend!!
Yet another great experience at the Katharine. Introduced a business associate from St. Louis and we both enjoyed the Trout (my favorite dish by the way). Started with the beet salad and my colleague had a green salad that the waitress happily offered up off the menu. Both fresh and delicious. I love this place and a great location for an early business dinner before the crowds come in...
The best food we have ever tasted. Staff was great and professional. Our satisfaction seemed to be the staffs priority. The food was amazing. Truly amazing.
Yet another great meal on a busy Saturday night. My colleague and I seated promptly with attentive servers who respected our desire for conversation but kept our water glasses full. I had the Trout again, simply put my favorite meal here. It is light and beautifully presented. My colleague had the Salmon. We started with the Cheese Plate which never fails to delight... All in all a productive and delicious two hours!
Very good food and service and nice room. Price point a bit high for portion size (and we are not big eaters).
