It was a nice place for a quiet dinner with family. Not busy at all. Hopefully it will make it.
Excellent dinner and our service was great. The only complaint would be the 25 dollar cake cutting fee for 9 people. Not at all reasonable.
Very good and enjoyed it. Great Bar and food was excellent. Service was great.
Second time they’re not impressed with the food but had great service
Nice upscale restaurant located in the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel (Reynolds Building). Food is very good. Service is great. It is expensive. Also a little noisy for a upscale place.
Our group arrived at 12noon; there were 2 individual people eating; we ordered from "express lunch" menu; it was 28 minutes later that we received our lunch; 2 ladies ordered the salad/w chicken, only had 1 order available, one opted for a garden salad; chicken must have been pre-breaded from a box; very limited menu someone in lower bar area with a ladder working on something. We would not recommend or consider for lunch due to overall experience.
Positive - server was very nice and professional.
Loud, cavernous space with few diners and a loud open kitchen with loud “Top 40 radio” music blaring. We were seated at a table too big for our group so we couldn’t hear each other at all. The salads were either over or underdressed, the entree recommended by our server was inedible. Our server was well meaning but missed two of our orders so the manager comped us one of our entrees.
Located in the lovely historic Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, the atmosphere is gorgeous. Visiting from out of town, my husband ordered Eggs Florentine and I ordered Tomatos and Madrange Ham Omelette. His was delicious. Mine was fine. Nothing special or interesting and light on tomatoes and ham. But it could have been a tame selection. Mine came with a side of potatoes accompanied by a large ramekin of ketchup, all on the same plate...which made it the focal point of my meal, which was just weird. Service was ok, not spectacular. Barring the idiosyncrasy, it is a place I would try again.
Great cuisine and great service, will be back. Thank you.
They brought us complimentary champagne for our special occasion! Very thoughtful! Beautiful ambiance!
Great French restaurant in Winston Salem! This town is relatively devoid of anything that is not southern food, everything we tried on the menu was very well done. Best French onion soup I’ve had in several years. Highly recommend
The restaurant is lovely, however the service was sub-par for a Kimpton property, and the food presentation was very lackluster. For example, instead of presenting a Cobb Salad with the lovely ingredients in full array, the meager portions of chicken, avocado, blue cheese, etc., were simply tossed into a bowl of iceberg lettuce. The place was not busy at all, but we had to flag down our server for more water, coffee, spoons, etc. We will return at some point, we hope they will provide more staff training in the meantime.
Third time eating at The Katherine. The only reason was the 'revamping'. While the food is good enough, it's not worth the price. I've said it before and will again. Paying 4.00 for coffee you should never flag someone down to get a refill, and this visit we had a lot of coffee grounds in the cups. There are way too many good brunch places downtown. We won't be back.
Good food, great service. Would recommend a bit more waite staff interaction with the menu as much of it is not written in English.
Good was excellent and service was great. Our service was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. Would highly recommend for a date night or special occasion.
Beautiful restaurant and lovely food!
Had a great meal here. It is a bit loud if you don't like that type of vibe. Highly recommend the cocktails as they were amazing. Mussels and Shrimp n Grits were awesome!
My wife and I had such a great experience at the Katherine this past Friday night. Our server, Kate, was outstanding and recommended some great adventurous cocktails that were absolutely delicious! The Smoked Monte Carlo was incredible and the presentation was so cool! For dinner my wife and I shared a few different items. The Washington State oysters were incredible and the mignonette was delicious and such a great compliment. We ended the meal by splitting the burger which was unbelievable and went with the mind blowing delicious fried Brussel sprouts as our side, yum. All in all our dinner, drinks, service and experience were fantastic. Can’t wait to go back!
Loved the Katharine! Great space for a night out with good food and quality collaboration.
We’ve had almost everything on the menu and the burgers or Sunday night fried chicken special it the best they have. We had the Saturday night New York Strip special for $34 and it had absolutely no flavor! For a $34 steak I’d go to Ruth’s Chris but honestly outbacks steaks are even better. They’re bar area ambiance is terrific and cocktails are off the charts. We decided after our dinner it’s best to go for drinks, oysters and burgers. Not for expensive fine dinning.
Great spot for a date night. My wife had the beet salad and loved it. I had the Caesar and it was also very good, with real anchovies. I had the escargot, and it was good, but I'd prefer more garlic, and personally I didn't like the mini biscuits it came with so I used the great bread they gave us. For main courses, my wife had Lobster and Potato Gnocchi and she said it was the best Gnocci she's had in a long time. I had the Bouillabaisse, and while the presentation was not the traditional soupy stew, it was REALLY good. We both had the Apple Tarte and they were also excellent. The service was very good, and even though they were busy, Eric G. took great care of us. His wine recommendation (Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc) was really good an paired perfect with our meals. My only complaint was it was a little too noisy, compounded by a particularly loud table near us.
Over all experience was very enjoyable. Will dine here again and will be telling all my friends about it! Thank you for the experience. I came up here from Charlotte to experience this. Originally from Los Angeles and still learning NC. This location match LA status!
It was an excellent experience! Very impressed. Will come back time and time again!
Anniversary dinner that was done right! We were seated at a table in the corner, ideal for us. We decided to make an event of it, take our time, and really enjoy everything. We were pleased with the service and the quality of the food. If your order the pork chop come hungry because it was the size of my face but so delicious even reheated the next day! The one item that we almost forgot to order was by far our favorite... the side of Brussels Sprouts to share. These are not on the online menu but were a fantastic surprise!
Great service much improved menu and overall good experience. Still a little pricey but was a nice experience.
Enjoyed the dinner, I ordered the pork chop, while my date got the Lobster gnocchi. Had the grilled shrimp, and Salmon Rillettes for appetizers. The only lackluster dish was the salmon,it was bland and had I known would of passed. Other than me not ordering the pork the way the chef would like to have served it best, all the other dishes were were great. The ambience was nice, and the bar area hip. The drinks were spot on as well. All in all a good spot for good food, drinks, and memorable dining
Table for 3 ordered salmon, trout and rib-eye...plus a side of fried brussell sprouts...you wouldn't be disappointed with any of those choices....everything was delicious!
Truly enjoyable experience from start to finish. Ambiance, decor, staff, and foood were first class. Our new favorite in Winston Salem!
Service took a long time. We were offered free desserts to make up for the slow service. We would have preferred better service and no desserts. It was extremely loud. Our server told us that they were going to install something to help with the acoustics. I hope so, the restaurant has been open for more than a year.
Everything was amazing. One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Coming back soon.
Great place to take business clients for drinks and dinner. Menu options may seem small at first, but has everything you need. Appetizers are great. All food is prepared superbly and is dining in the art deco icon of the Reynolds Building adds great ambience.
Eric was amazing!!!! Totally lovely evening, delicious food, exceptional service. Will be back.
Awful service. Only 3 tables of customers and we never got refills and waited 15 mins for our check. Never checked on us once the food came. Food came without sauces that were advertised. Sausage was dry and over cooked. Don't plan to come here to eat again, but the bar area is nice for an after drink cocktail or date night.
We have been coming to the Katharine since it opened. We love the location, ambiance, and usually the food is great. But the last three times we have been there (last night, early December, and mid October) the service has been unreasonably slow. I mean 45 minutes to an hour for the entrees to be served after the appetizers have been finished. The last time, despite waiting this long for our dinners, my pork chop was served completely rare on the inside and had to be sent back to be cooked, while my husband’s food sat at the table getting cold. This past time, we told our waitress when we arrived for our 645 reservation that we had an 845 movie to go to, we didn’t think this would be a problem. Our entrees were ordered by 720 but not served for another HOUR so that we had to scarf them down and try to rush our the door. Very little in the way of explanation or apology offered. I’ve given the restaurant many chances, but after this I think I may grab a drink at the bar from time to time but dine elsewhere.
Date was terrible, food was amazing!!
My wife and I came here for dinner and stayed overnight at the Kimpton for New Years. The food was great and the personnel were excellent. We had a special dinner for New Years that was fantastic. We will be coming here again next year for New Years.
We enjoyed a fantastic prix fixe, four-course meal at The Katharine on New Year's Eve. Everything was delicious and meticulously prepared--and the service was impeccable. Our hands-down favorite dish was the Pork Belly Pho; the flavors were a devine synthesis of traditional pho with an ever-so-subtle touch of the South. Please keep it on the menu Chef Adam!
Kudos to the Kimpton for bringing Adam Barnett to our local restaurant scene. We'll be back for more celebrations, special occasions and maybe a light bite in the bar!
After reading mixed reviews, we were a little ambivalent to try Katharine. I got the gnocchi and lobster which was delicious, unique, and worth the price. My date got the trout which was fine but nothing to write home about. The cheese board app was good but not worth $16 for the portions provided. The service was good overall. We'll be back to give it another try!
This is a great place in WInston-Salem for that special occasion. It is more pricey than most restaurants, but it is great to have a special dinner that you will remember in the building that was the model for the Empire State Building...
THe food was great and servie great as well.
I have been to the Cardinal Kimpton a number of times, since my company books meetings there. I have stayed at the hotel and eaten their lunches served via buffet line to my company. We were always pleased with the food and service.
My husband and I did some work on our home which required us to stay overnight somewhere else. We stayed at the Cardinal and ate at Katherine's. The service was terrific, but the food was outstanding. We both had the pork chop and I have never had one that was so good! The appetizer and salad were also very good. The 3 layer chocolate mousse was outstanding as well. The meal is pricey so we would only do it on special occasions. I would gladly give up 3 or 4 mediocre meals for another dinner at Katherine's.
