Katana Ratings and Reviews
Had 2 wait 20 extra minutes to be seated..They tried to sit me and my guest outside when I requested inside seating..An extra 5 more minutes..just to be told if I wanted inside seating it would be another hour..Ended up sitting at the sushi bar which was very uncomfortable.Ordered the king crab legs..was expecting a minimum of 2 legs instead received one leg cut in half..very disappointing and misleading..The only ok thing was our waitress..Will not be returning or referring this place.
After reading so many brilliant reviews, I was super excited. Customer service is top notch here. The staff is super helpful when you make a reservation and will call you to confirm and they were kind enough to add an additional person to my party at the last minute. The ambiance is spectacular and the DJ played some amazing old school hip hop and R&B hits that made us groove big time. It's a nice place to people watch and take photos esp if youre seated outside and you're not feeling cold AT ALL because there's heat lamps aplenty. They are very courteous and attentive, but for the price vs. quality of food, it was a major letdown and I would refer to katana as mediocre, at best. My martini was great and my friends were happy with their drinks as well, but the food was extremely underwhelming. We ordered the white lotus that everyone raved about and I have had better sushi at a shopping center sushi joint than this thing. It was tasteless, obviously made in advance, and nothing to write home about. So unfortunate. The baked avocado was nice, but again nothing that blew our minds. The popcorn shrimp (another one from the popular reviews) was ok, but again, not a case of OH MY GOD! I will admit the salmon sashimi was one of the best i had and I even forced myself to try sea urchin again (still hate it), but everything we got was just not up to par to the likes of Nobu or Katsuya. Basically, you're paying to be at a hyped up popular place in Hollywood amongst the "cool kids" and that's about it. I can think of so many other places I'd rather go, but it was nice to finally go there and try it. I just wish the entire experience had been a hit. Oh and also, we left and we were still hungry so have a snack beforehand!
Katana has a beautiful interior and exemplify's elegance, however... for a 5 star restaurant to sell imitation crab ,(which is a filler used by cheap restaurants due to the price of crab)...and hot sake so watered down the alcohol content was non existent. Our party drank a lot of it and were completely sober. They then had to order other drinks which was ridiculous. For the prices charged by this establishment you would expect the ultimate experience but it purely presented a money grab. If this was a 3 star restaurant or less we would expect this but not from a 5 star restaurant charging high prices.
The overall result was a turnoff and dampener on a special evening. We will not return.
Went here for my daughter's 18th Birthday. Food was great, service and the host were fantastic. We requested an outside patio table and was seated at a great spot. The waitress was very attentive and a manager came by a few times to make sure we were happy. Great evening!!
Food was good. Service was not.
Arrival at the host's desk was chaotic, no one seemed to know what was going on and four people behind the desk looking blankly at the screen.
Once seated it took 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our drinks order. As it had taken so long we ordered four drinks and a bottle of wine. It took another 30 minutes for those drinks to arrive and when they did, the three gin and tonics we ordered turned out to be Gin and Sodas. The bottle of Prosecco was left on the table, with no wine glasses and no ice bucket (despite me pointing that out). We complained to the manager who was really patronizing but did offer to comp the three gin and tonics (which no one drank because they were Gin and sodas...) and he brought us some wine glasses but didn't open the Prosecco.
We ordered food, our food arrived quickly but too many plates at once. They had no idea how to serve sharing plates as they were just dumped in front us. As we still didn't actually have a drink (1 hour in), we realised that the only way we would get a drink was to open the bottle of prosecco and pour it ourselves. So that's what we did. The bussers delivered the rest of our food and we never saw the waiter or manager again. Presumably because they knew they weren't going to see any service charge from us. I have never not paid service...
The table next to us seemed to be having similar issues. It actually spoiled what would have been a nice meal.
Terrible service. Waited about an hour to get seated for a 945 pm reservation. Was supposed to have outside seating but instead got stuck on a table inside in a corner. Table was round and there was no way 9 men can be served on a small table. There was no room to even eat properly. Overall a bad experience for my bday. 700 something very poorly spent
I had a 9:45pm reservation and i arrived on time only to find a 15 minute wait just to check in. I checked in at 10:00pm and was told it would be a 20 to 30 minute wait to be sat and that we could wait at the bar which was packed. It took me 15 minutes to get a drink at a packed bar with 1 bartender. I checked in after 20 minutes and was told it would be another 20 to 30 minute wait. After a 1 hour and 15 minute wait (sat at 11:00pm) we were sat near the entrance in front of the bathroom. I had noticed that many people with no reservations walked up and tipped the hostess to go ahead of people with reservations. The hostess very condescendingly said that they had been backed up due to people walking in with more guests than expected after I witnessed her take a $100 bill from a walk up to be sat at a prime location in the patio. After being sat (by the restroom) it took another 15 minutes for a waiter to come by and take our drink order. Overall very nice restaurant, mediocre sushi, horrific service. I have not been to Katana in years and I was reminded why. Will not be coming back.
Katana is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in LA. The food is always fresh and delicious. I usually sit at the sushi bar and have my favorite sushi chef Koji whip up something special. There’s also the Robata bar for cooked items which I also enjoy. There’s wonderful outdoor patio dining. It is a bit on the pricey side but worth it! Enjoy!
