What a great find! I originally booked it because I have had drinks at the Katana in LA on Sunset Blvd a few times and had always wanted to try their cuisine. The service was phenomenal from walking in and getting greeted politely by the hostess... throughout our meal getting pampered with the best customer service (both waitress Lauren and the manager Mark). Truly a lovely way to spend our anniversary while it was blizzarding outside! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese/ Sushi... but also had a great steak myself! Presentation was top notch and my husband commented that it was the freshest tuna he had ever had in Chicago! Heading to LA next weekend, may just have to go back to the other Katana to compare! ;)
Overall , very good . Very satisfied with our Server Eddie and the experience he gave us.
Food very tasty, and will want to come again to try other items. (eggplant appetizer was a surprise hit)
Great atmosphere, great service and great quality of food and drinks especially for the price.
The manager was great. Food and service were excellent. The ambiance was nice. But the music was way too loud. I felt like I was in a night club.
Best restaurant I have ever been to. Sushi was phenomenal and super fresh. Best sushi I’ve had by far. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with the entire experience this restaurant provided.
I gotta say I never leave reviews but the experience here was so amazing that I felt it was necessary. The atmosphere was incredible with the DJ playing nothing but hits. The food was beyond amazing. Everything from the toro & tuna tartare, to the salmon and wagyu beef skewers, the seaweed salad, and spider roll were prepared to perfection. Everything was very flavorful. The waiter was personable, friendly and took care of us the whole night. He general manager Daniel runs a great restaurant that's in a class of it's own and I will definitely frequent this establishment often. This restaurant was the total package.
I consider myself an amateur foodie and I can confidently say this is the beat sushi I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Great venue for both date night and group outings. Sleek, contemporary setting and vibe. Upbeat and fun. The menu is varied and fascinating. all items lend themselves to sharing and a group experience. The wait staff is attentive and informative so even if you are not familiar with Japanese fare, you are carefully guided through the menu options. Can't think of a reason not to go back!!
great attention to details.
Staff has full knowledge on menu items.
Seasonal fresh fish from japan like Sayori make me wanna come here each season.
Excellect service made for an enjoyable experience. Our food was very good. Restaurant was nearly empty on a quiet Sunday evening, which perhaps made it easy for the staff to give us extra attention
Our servers was great. So knowledge and willing to take the time to explain to inexperienced saki drinkers!
Food was decent but expensive compared to other local sushi spots.
Service during dinner was slow.
Service at host/hostess stand was VERY good.
Great interior design as well.
Amazing time, amazing staff, amazing food. Good sushi with great modern sophisticated atmosphere.
Love this place. Consistent high quality fish, fun & energetic ambiance, and an extremely kind waitstaff!
It was our first time at Katana. Loved the atmosphere and vibe. Menu and food were excellent. Our server had a little bit of an attitude but the manager Daniel Carr was very attentive and accommodating. He spent quite a while visiting with our table and making sure we were happy.
Beautiful space - wonderful food. We had the bento boxes and sushi; all were very fresh. Service was attentive.
Went there for lunch last week for Restaurant Week for a business meeting. Room was only about 1/3rd full. The service took forever and the lunch lasted 1 1/2 hours when it should have easily been over in an hour. The waiter even forgot to serve our deserts before giving us the bill without clearing any of the plates. Food was pretty good but one of the pieces of fish tasted a little fishy. Overall, not a good experience.
Look, the robatayaki is good, but the Japanese fare is so so and highly fusionized. The issue here is prices border on outrageous even for downtown. The interior design is kitschy borderline tacky but they have some amazing architectural elements that make it very interesting. The service was poor, mostly because our server was sort o out of it. The manager did stop by to check, was nice enough.
Gyozas are very non-traditional, mushy, lots of flavor but like they'd been dipped in liquid smoke.
Stick to the robota, it's their thing and bring your best credit card. Good for dates.
Oh, and the birthday sparklers are awesome torches that shoot sparks.
Overpriced for what it is in terms of service and food quality. Interior was cool and well designed but DJ and music was super loud for a 7pm dinner. Could get better quality sushi for a much lower price at my local neighborhood sushi place.
Great service and attention! Our server Eddie did a wonderful job recommending dishes and drinks. Everything was spot on. Great job everyone!
Start with WOW.
Sushi are alright. Dessert chocolate volcano is pretty good. I like it. Other than that, waiters are outnumbered and they always stand far away from us that we couldn’t find them when we need them. As a sushi place, it still needs some efforts, but I do recommend their dessert. And it’s a nice to hang around with friends after work.
Food was great, service decent and friendly, decor and style very well done.
My biggest issue was honestly the amount of food I got for what we paid. The normal menu hosts a range of Japanese charcoal skewers which were very well done but quite pricey for what you get.
You’ll be out $75/100 per person for a “full feeling” meal.
If you’re in town on business and you’re on the company dime, run to this place. Fast. If it’s your own dime, Just be prepared to shell out some considerable cash.
We had a wonderful meal here to celebrate our anniversary. Between the kitchen, robata grill, and sushi masters plying both Japanese classics and inventive takes on things, we enjoyed a delicious and stimulating dining experience all around. Cocktails are amazing, sake several times over, and theatrical touches for dessert. It exceeded our expectations. And Mark, who oversaw the proceedings for us, is wonderful. We'll be back again. Next time for Happy Hour!
Amazing food and staff.
Excellent service and creative cuisine. Definitely worth a visit.
Super cool restaurant with very knowledgeable, pretty attentive servers, food runners and bussers. Had a hiccup when we got there- restaurant was not even full but we had to wait a few minutes for our table to "be cleaned off" and for "someone else to come to the front" because the host apparently couldn't leave her spot unattended. But food was really good and different. Would be very fun to go with a group and share lots. Only thing was I thought prices were a drop high but quality was high too and also presentation of food was great.
Phenomenal food, compliments to Chef Gustavo
Great is dining experience. Our waiter Gabe was incredible!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The server Eddie was fantastic. So polite, professional, informative and great conversation. Manger was also fantastic and brought us champagne to celebrate our anniversary.
We will be back.
We plan to come back, the food and sushi were delicious, the drinks were amazing & unique.
Thank you for a wonderful lunch experience!
Excellent ambience, excellent food and excellent service. The spicy crispy rice was amazing!
Service was terrific. Food and drinks delicious. Great atmosphere. Looking forward to getting back there soon.
We love it here! We came twice in one week it was so good. They have a live DJ on the weekends and it has a fun and energetic vibe. Definitely would recommend the spicy tuna on crispy rice!
Excellent food, excellent service. Would definitely visit again.
Always outstanding service, and love their food.
Our go-to items here are the Katana roll, any nigiri, especially salmon, spicy tuna on crispy rice, marinated cucumbers, chicken hearts and American wagyu skewers, and mochi for dessert. The food is always high quality.
It’s honestly one of our favorite places in the city. Although the decor is very impressive, the atmosphere is pretty laid back, so we always feel comfortable there whether we’re just dropping in last minute for a casual dinner or celebrating someone’s birthday. They often have a DJ, so the music is awesome.
We went for my aunt’s special birthday. We enjoyed everything we had, sushi, sashimi, sides and skewers. A favorite for all of us was the shrimp and bacon skewer. The sushi and sashimi was very fresh. My aunt was comped a great desert that was decorated with chocolate wishes and topped off by a candle that was like a huge sparkler. The whole experience was great.
I came here on 1-17-19 around 9pm for a date and the service/food was amazing. I forgot my waiter’s name but his manners and dedication to excellent service were impeccable. His recommendations (green beans in oyster sauce) were spot on and delicious. My experience was stupendous and I will be back
We had a great meal and the staff was outstanding.
Had an amazing time for my boyfriends birthday they made it extremely special!
