Reservation was lost by restaurant. Host blamed guest and was VERY rude. Will NOT return.
Reservation Name: Christian Herrmanns
Table for 4
Overpriced for what it is. Good food, good service but not exceptional, nice decor. An American take in Japanese cuisine.
Katana did an amazing job of recognizing our anniversary. They went above and beyond at making us feel special and giving us an incredible dining experience. This is a great restaurant for both business dinners as well as dinners with friends and family. The food is top notch and the service is impeccable.
The food is super salty, especially the fried rice. Sushi rolls are fair.
The food and ambiance were very good !
Excellent Service and delicious sushi as always
The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and the service was good. Unfortunately, the food was bad. The tuna on crispy rice is mushy tuna on too large of a rice cube. The cauliflower was awful. The cod skewer was okay. For giggles, we tried the chicken cartilage which was described as crispy. However, it was no where near crispy.
Me and wife celebrated 10 years anniversary!!! We had a wonderful time at Katana restaurant . Food and staff were excellent and they made sure we had a good time . Great atmosphere to celebrate!!!
Katana was a mediocre experience. It sufficed all categories, but nothing stood out beyond belief. Katana holds a very "hip" or "in" vibe, but falls short to greatness. Overall, it was a good dining event. I would recommend Katana to anyone looking for a good eat for a good price.
They didn’t do anything special for my wife’s birthday. Additionally I think we saw our waiter like 3 times throughout the night which includes taking our order and giving us our check. Moving forward I wouldn’t come back for a special occasion.
Ver bad experience. Two hairs on the food.
Some of the best food I’ve ever had. The importance they place on quality is uncommon.
Rose fountain is a must!!
My husband and i are foodies and really appreciate a good fine dining experience, so in no way is this review meant to shine bad light on this restaurant. This was a quick drop in for dinner for us before a show. The food, presentation and service were good. But for the price tag, should have felt more “outstanding.” Everything was up to our expectations, but the service didn’t feel “personal” - it felt like we were in a high end diner rather than a trendy fine dining restaurant. We generally prefer smaller and more intimate restaurants, but considering that Katana was mostly empty when we were there, the personal touch was certainly missing. That’s where i’d rate it “very good” vs “excellent.”
Eddie and chef Saul were phenomenal!!! Eddie will guide you to the best meal and experience ever! Chef Saul was amazing! Everything was absolute perfection! It was our Anniversary and they made it unforgettable! You can’t go wrong with these guys! I urge anyone to stop by and see them you won’t regret it!!! Thank you both for an amazing night! See you soon because we WILL be back!
The bartender spilled a drink all on me, and we waited 30 minutes for dessert after they sold out of the one made for the Feast and we would still 100% go back here!! Amazing experience and mind blowing food! This was one of the most incredible meals my we have ever had in all of our travels!!
Great service and great food! Would dine again for sure
Eddie took care of us and he was fantastic. Will definitely return.
Omg, that was the best sushi I have had in my life. I loved the atmosphere, the staff was amazing. Would be absolutely perfect for taking a client.
Our server Alyssa was absolutely fantastic. She made terrific recommendations and was fun, lively and enaging. She even had the Executive Chef come out and present our special sashimi platter. The food was fabulous and I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back!
Terrific dinner. We got the standard special and asked to replace the beef with sushi which they did. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Barbecue fish at end was especially delicious. Dinner was pricey but worth it for a special night out.
The experience I would refer people
It was dead on a Saturday at 9pm which is probably because the service is poor and music is way too loud. Our waitress kept disappearing. After 30 mins we paid for our drink and walked out and went to Roka which was great.
The prix fixe dinner was great; our waiter was very pleasant and she made the evening fun. We throughly enjoyed the creative flavors and presentation, if at times a little heavy on seasoning. The robata and wagyu were just fantastic, and some of the best nigiri we’ve had in a long time. The carpaccio was very good but a little too much onion, not enough jalapeño, for us. They were very understanding that we required GF, and substituted an amazing coconut milk ice cream with crystallized ginger for dessert. The kitchen seemed to get backlogged after the 3rd course and we had to rush a bit at the end, but everything arrived at the table at just the right temp and freshness. The DJ was great, a fun mix of modern and modernized classics, but not so loud (where we were sitting near the back on the first floor) for comfortable conversation.
For the restaurant to have been so empty the service was terrible. They forgot to cook certain meals. Charged us for desserts they gave for free
Food was okay though some of us did have rumbly tummy the next morning, but not great sushi. Ambiance is great. Service was terrible. The waiter repeatedly got the order wrong, like three times, but never wrote anything down. We had to ask the water guys, who were there every second and tried to clear our plates when they were not done, to get our waiter no less than 4 times. Then, the coup de grace, he tried billing us for his mistakes. This was a business dinner so it was a bit embarrassing to have such poor service in such an expensive place.
Katana was perfect for my wife and I. She does not like sushi and I crave it. Katana offered so much for both of us. I had an assortment of fresh sushi that I had never been offered elsewhere, while she had terrific starters like garlicy Chinese green beans and various vegetables expertly roasted on their Robata grill. We also had black cod from the Robata grill that was about the best I have ever had. Our server was knowledgeable, fun, and extremely attentive. She knew we were really enjoying our dinner so she brought the manager over to introduce him to us. Chicago has so many restaurants that we're always looking for the next place to eat. But Katana is a restaurant we want to return to.
Attentive service & great food. I would certainly return for dinner here.
Ambiance was just ok. Sushi bar is way in the back and terrible ambiance there. Service was not good - took 15 minutes for anyone to come by. Walked out prior to getting food. Not a great place and I don’t recommend. Better places in town for sure.
Food was poorly served. Service was extremely poor. The staff missed placing one of our orders and lied to us that for unknown reason the food was delayed when we asked. It took 1.5 hours for the restaurant to serve a dish of California Roll, which is totally unacceptable. The staff also intentionally ignored our table when we requested for service. The service level was one of the worst I have experienced in Chicago. Don't choose this restaurant if you don't want to spoil your evening.
Katana was exceptional in addressing two very difficult food restrictions. We hosted out of town guests at katana for dinner one of whom had celiac disease and the other is on a specialized medical diet. The restaurant handled it flawlessly. Although service from the kitchen was slow overall and the pacing of food was disjointed, the multiple accommodations made up for that. It was very appreciated.
On a positive note, the interior look and feel is unique. Very interesting. Unfortunately that’s where the compliments end. In a word, overpriced. A mediocre, at best, wine list filled with wines way overpriced, food served at fast food speed, and food prices way beyond the food experience. If you want to over pay for dinner and eat really fast, this restaurant is for you.
Got sick. Ambiance was horrible. Club-like.
We booked reservations for this place last minute for a quick trip to Chicago. This place did not disappoint! The ambiance was amazing. Cocktails and food were delicious. Portions are smaller but hands down has been the best food my husband and I ever had. We ordered the rib eye wrapped asparagus which was by far the favorite part of the meal. I would recommend the Chilean sea bass. We also had the Kobe pepper skewer. The katana roll was fresh and tastebud blowing. A little spicy but it was described as such. The pork belly fried rice was to die for. Our server Eduardo was probably the beat server I have ever had.We will definitely be going back to this restaurant.
As someone who truly enjoys finding new flavors and experiencing tastes, but has many family members who are very good cooks themselves and some even with degrees in culinary arts, Katana was a true pleasure. Our server Mariel struck the hard-to-find-balance of being engaging, knowledgeable about not only the menu choices but their technique and background, and letting the outstanding meal speak for itself while we enjoyed our own company. The rest of the staff, from the hostess to the manager to the bus boys, were professional, attentive, polite and helpful. We ordered the chef's feast and supplemented this dinner for two with several of Mariel's suggestions to make it a meal for three, and there wasn't a single dish that paled in comparison to the others. When I travel with friends we make a point of finding one, high quality meal on each trip. This was easily in the top 3 meals - and overall dining experiences - I've had and I didn't have to go any farther than my own city to find it!
Great patio with great food! My only call out is when I was waiting at the bar for the rest of my party, the bartender didn’t say hello or try to ask me if I wanted anything. Besides that little hiccup, my experience was great and I really enjoyed the food.
It a great get together restaurant for food and good time. It is a little too pricy and closes too early, 10 pm, at the weekend.
Date night with the hubs. Food was excellent. Service wasn't bad, it was a bit crowded and loud so that slowed service a bit but otherwise everything was really great.
Great experience, everything tasted great. Great end to end service from the whole staff.
