We booked reservations for this place last minute for a quick trip to Chicago. This place did not disappoint! The ambiance was amazing. Cocktails and food were delicious. Portions are smaller but hands down has been the best food my husband and I ever had. We ordered the rib eye wrapped asparagus which was by far the favorite part of the meal. I would recommend the Chilean sea bass. We also had the Kobe pepper skewer. The katana roll was fresh and tastebud blowing. A little spicy but it was described as such. The pork belly fried rice was to die for. Our server Eduardo was probably the beat server I have ever had.We will definitely be going back to this restaurant.
As someone who truly enjoys finding new flavors and experiencing tastes, but has many family members who are very good cooks themselves and some even with degrees in culinary arts, Katana was a true pleasure. Our server Mariel struck the hard-to-find-balance of being engaging, knowledgeable about not only the menu choices but their technique and background, and letting the outstanding meal speak for itself while we enjoyed our own company. The rest of the staff, from the hostess to the manager to the bus boys, were professional, attentive, polite and helpful. We ordered the chef's feast and supplemented this dinner for two with several of Mariel's suggestions to make it a meal for three, and there wasn't a single dish that paled in comparison to the others. When I travel with friends we make a point of finding one, high quality meal on each trip. This was easily in the top 3 meals - and overall dining experiences - I've had and I didn't have to go any farther than my own city to find it!
It a great get together restaurant for food and good time. It is a little too pricy and closes too early, 10 pm, at the weekend.
Date night with the hubs. Food was excellent. Service wasn't bad, it was a bit crowded and loud so that slowed service a bit but otherwise everything was really great.
Great experience, everything tasted great. Great end to end service from the whole staff.
Service was poor because all attention was given to a private event.
Disappointing experience from arrival to departure...from hostess to manager. Got seated 10 minutes after our reservation time of 5:45pm, plenty of tables open and available plus there were 3 hostess. Got seated at a table with direct sunlight in our eyes, asked for a different table. Hostess walked away to check as she was unable to make a decision on her own and never came back. Told server upfront that we were on a time crunch and had to be out by a certain time. Food was delayed, asked for our check before all food came out, didn't get check for another 15 minutes. Had a split check payment with a gift card, cash and credit card. Manager took the bill and didn't come back for 10 minutes, finally came back and said that the gift card was expired and that he charged the other credit card without checking with us first. Who knew gift cards expired...the restaurant is only 2 years old? Yes, he took a few items off our bill to compensate for the expired gift card and dining experience, but his approach about it was very cold and argumentative with no apology about charging a card in full without checking or acknowledging out complaints regarding our experience.
I had one of the worse experience of dining ever! It was compensated by management by providing us a free meal but I still don't think it was worth wasting an evening. My boyfriend and I are very busy and we finally had an evening off for a date night for four hours. We spent three hours in the restaurant waiting for food, one hour in between each appetizer portion and food never actually made it to our table. Our server told us this is it we don't have any food coming for you at the end of three hours and said our meal is comped because of their lack of service. I appreciate them not charging me $100 but we felt neglected, unimportant, hungry, frustrated as others got their food in time. It is utterly disrespectful for them to just let us sit and completely ignore us. We grabbed pizza after. I will never go back to Katana.
Perfection from start to finish. Superb food. Would highly recommend.
Pricey, but worth it, especially for special occasions.
Such a great place! The class and ambiance of a Catch or Tao restaurant but without the crazy buzz. It definitely seems like the type of place where you’d expect lots of young groups of people drinking or having a meal before heading out to the clubs.
Quality is high, and the ambiance is great. More people should come here.
Such a great time! Staff always goes above and beyond! Will always be my favorite place to dine!
This place is a must have if you prefer Asian or fresh cuisine. The ambiance is bar none and the food is to match. The menu is to share and you should plan to enjoy that. Recommendations - katana and rose a steak.
Plates arrived with 10 minutes difference each. Employees seemed to be unconfortable and the place too much noisy. Not to be recommended
Okay food, nice service, not the best sushi in Chicago.
Katana thinks they’re a 10 but they’re the equivalent of 5 2’s! Way to go you suck!
Service could have been better, it was a slow night and we still had to ask someone to grab our server we hadn’t seen in awhile to order.
Beautiful restaurant however I think it was overpriced. Food was good but not worth the price. Also didn’t realize that it was small plates.
We are from Wisconsin and always love this restaurant! The staff and ambience is perfect for a date or family!
A lovely experience at katana! Definitely a special occasion place but everything was superb.
We loved having you!!
Everything was mediocre at best. Would not go there again. Huge disappointment
Overpriced food. I felt like I was in a club. Service was okay—not terrible but also not good.
Great meal from start to finish. We did the meat and fish platters and added apps and sushi. The Brussel sprout chips were great and I’m not a fan of Brussel sprouts. Not noisy so the whole table could talk to each other. Would definitely go back when I’m in Chicago again.
Eddie is the best! The food is always excellent but he makes the experience on another level which makes this our favorite restaurant.
This was my husband's and my first visit to Katana, while taking a mini-vacation to Chicago. WOW ! We were blown away from the superb customer service from the moment we were greeted by our host/hostess and the entire staff greeting us in Japanese! Table service was excellent as was the amazing dishes brought to us. The manager came over to say hello and ask us how our experience was - we told him this was our first visit to Katana but would not be our last. If you have a chance to check out Katana while in Chicago, DO SO! You won't be disappointed!
Music sucked, for was delicious and great service.
Sashimi was sliced to thick, better 3 slices instead of 2.
The maki missed an extra flavour
Miso.marinated black cod needed a lttle more miso
The service was horrible and the suski was not good my wife almost slipped due yo water on the floor. I will never go back there again.
patio music just too loud to actually have a conversation without having to scream across the table. You get used to it, but the music could be more in the background rather than the foreground.
Amazing sushi, crazy professional service. Made my neices birthday extra special. Cant wait to go back
Food is great and service is generally good, but the waiters shamelessly push for the most expensive items on the menu.
Wonderful service and really good food.
food is refresh and service is good. But I am not impressed by any aspects. With this tier I am expecting more. For example, introduce the dish name(fish spicy and from) or provide a clean table(dust on our table). One-time visit.
Phenomenal food and service - our server knew everything about the menu and helped us to navigate it perfectly. Also, they had a DJ and sent out a special treat for my bday. 10/10 would definitely go again!!!
Mark, the manager, was great!
Food and service were great. I
Absolutely amazing, definitely will come back next time I visit!!!
Today’s my birthday and our waitress, Jennifer P, made sure to try her best to not let me enjoy it. She was very short and rude with us for the moment we came in and didn’t smile one time. She didn’t bring us any utensils to eat with. She never came to ask us how our food was. On top of all of that, my boyfriend tried to surprise me with getting a dessert for me and he asked her when I was not there to bring it at the end of the dinner. After we ordered some more food she said “ok so should I bring the dessert after this?” and completely ruined the surprise.
