Never truly got to experience the sushi as we left after getting appetizers. Sushi chef was all by himself making the sushi and talking to customers as they entered and wanted tables. He seemed so stressed as he mentioned he had 3 tables already ordering sushi ahead of us. We got seated and decided to order appetizers first. Salad, egg drop soup and gyoza(pan fried). Saland and soup were just ok but the gyoza was burned. Shame on them letting it go out like that. Never did get sushi as the chef then started delivering sushi to the tables and the waitress and other employee just ignored us. They were also busy fixing the incorrect bill for a large table. Finally it got to the point we just added up our bill, left the money on the table and left. Maybe the sushi and this place is a perfect place on a weekday night, but on a Saturday night, be cautious or make sure you have plenty of patience. If you walk in and see the chef being frantic, you might consider other options.

In trying to be as objective and fair as possible, I have to say overall, it was mediocre. I felt terrible for the poor waitress, as she was alone on Saturday with NO help. Shame on the manager or owner for not planning better and ensuring adequate waitstaff. The restaurant was packed at 6:30 pm, and people were waiting with only one wait staff. She also had to make drinks/cocktails and run food. It was clearly way too much for one person, and you could tell she was at her wit's end. At one point I offered to jump behind the bar and make drinks for her figuring I could help make things a bit easier for her but she declined. The sushi itself was pretty pedestrian. Just basic rolls and a small selection of "fancy" rolls. Everything was fresh and presented nicely, but there could have been more variety of rolls offered. Also, the "fancy" rolls were a little on the meager side and not a lot of taste. A quick visit to a sushi place in Atlanta might be a good opportunity to expand the menu or offer some special rolls for a little more variety. A couple of other points...the wasabi had zero taste to it and looked like it was made from powder. I asked for low-sodium soy sauce, which I think was the regular soy sauce with water added. It was truly disgusting and not real low-sodium soy sauce. With a few tweaks, this could be a great place and will certainly fix a sushi craving as it's one of the only places in the area. We saw two different couples waiting at the door for a table who were never acknowledged and ended up leaving. The management really needs to work on efficiencies, having enough wait staff, and ensuring that all customers are greeted, seated, and served. Our dinner took more than 2 hours (for 2 people), and we wanted to order more sushi but knew it would be another hour or two before we got anything, so we left...hungry.

The fish was fresh , high quality , rice in sushi was light but held together well just as it should . Not a lot of rolls from which to choose but all well made . There were interesting choices for the more adventurous amongst us too . Very enjoyable evening !

It took longer than necessary to get our food. We ordered two sushi rolls. A California role and a spicy tuna with crunch. The spicy tuna roll had more on it than spicy tuna and crunch. I was expecting tempura flakes like every other place I have gotten this same roll from. There was a crunch but I'm not sure what it was. It also had what I think was cucumber. I didn't ask for that. I don't mind waiting for my food. When you go out to eat, it's to be expected now a days. Taking into account the amount of people that were in the restaurant and what stages of eating they were in, we should have gotten our food sooner.

No one acknowledged we were even there for almost 10 minutes as we stood by the door. No eye contact, no hello, nothing. Once we were finally seated, things seemed to kind of return to a normal dining experience. They weren't covered up, but we had to flag down a waitress for pretty much everything. Not sure if it was an off night or if the staff was new, but I don't think I'll be back. The other sushi restaurant in town is just as good food-wise and the service is better

One of our favourite places to eat in Ellijay. They have a fairly small staff, so bring your patience and take the time to relax and enjoy your evening. The food is always fresh, delicious, and well worth the wait.

First - our food and our direct server were good. However, we walked in with a reservation, stood in the doorway for quite a while before anyone acknowledged us. Finally, someone cooking said that they would be with us shortly. A server came forward, we said we had a reservation, and we were shown that there were no available tables and our reservation had not been considered because they “didn’t have an iPad.” I am not sure what an iPad has to do with it, but luckily a couple was leaving. We said we would wait outside as to not rush the finishing couple and the server said she would come get us once the table was cleared. She never came to get us. We went back inside where an entirely different server finally sat us. The table was dirty, my wife’s cloth napkin was wet, and there were an unacceptable amount of flies hovering around. Upon leaving I was offered a “shot” (well, it was more or less shouted at me) by a guy at the bar. He must have been a regular patron because it seemed like most of the waitstaff was more interested in he and his friend, than to deal with the dining customers. I don’t want to come across as harsh, but we ate here last year and it was top notch. It was so good that we we’re excited to come back. However, the overall experience this time was very disappointing.

Hands down one of the best restaurant experiences of my life. Food has been a huge passion of mine for nearly 40 years, and Kasei Sushi and Sake had some classic Japanese staples for the basic American pallette and many top notch dishes for those with a more sophisticated and cultured pallette. The seafood was fresh, the server was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and the atmosphere was perfect for a casual meal or a nice date. We don't eat out often, but this place will become a regular destination for outings.

It is a shame as this place has been great in the past . We are a family of six . Not sure we will attemp to go back , that is our rude that person was .

I drove 45 minutes from my home with my two children on a Saturday night for an 830 reservation. We wanted to try it because it’s a new place and it’s in downtown Ellijay, which is a small mountain town in north Georgia. It’s kind of on the way to the middle of nowhere. So we arrived at 8:35, and the restaurant was closed. I forced the door open and went inside to ask them why they weren’t planning to honor our reservation. The two girls who were behind the counter said that they were closed for the evening and they didn’t understand what Open Table was. Like they had never heard of it. I showed the app on my phone and I showed them the 830 reservation for Saturday night. The sushi chef had already wrapped up the fish probably about 30 minutes ago. The chairs and tables were stacked and all the rugs were put away so they had been closed for sometime. Even though it is a small town, Ellijay had quite a vibrant nightlife and there were lots of restaurants and bars still open with live music. So fortunately we walked just a couple of blocks and had a fantastic dinner at a place called Emily’s. I contacted OpenTable to tell them what happened and for my trouble, they gave me an extra thousand points. I still have not heard anything from the restaurant. I doubt they will be open six months from now.

As usual the food was very good and our waitress was polite and attentive. The problem was we were seated and our order was taken way before most people that came in after us and we were the next to the last one served. I think we were among the last to leave and we got there about 615. A party that was waiting to be seated and seated after we had been there for quite a while and another party that came in and sat next to use at least a half hour after us were served before us. I was kind of disappointed in that I was bringing someone that had never been to your restaurant and was trying to impress by Kasei. Thank you for the chance to comment. Barbour

Had a fun and memorable evening with friends at Kasei Sushi & Sake! From the delicious ceviche, shrimp dumplings and seaweed salad to the Sashimi/Nigiri and the Caterpillar roll...we enjoyed it all!! We especially had fun trying the different types of Sake and had a great education provided by Marcello. The hospitality of Marcello, Candace and Scott couldn’t have been any better! Recommend getting a reservation in advance if possible.

Kasei Sushi and Sake was so disappointing! I brought 3 guests with me to our reservation and we all three left unhappy. We ended up eating at another restaurant nearby even after we had paid $100+ to eat at Kasei. The service was beyond terrible. Appetizers went to the wrong table, drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, and we waited over an hour and a half after ordering to receive 4 sushi rolls! The food was not bad but was nothing special. However, at that point, all we wanted to do was leave! If I could give this restart negative stars, I absolutely would.

I always hate to give bad reviews, but this one must be given, as I hope the restaurant owner decides to make changes. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but the table was available. There was a large party (14?) plus 1 couple at the bar. After 1 hour, we managed to have a glass of sake each and our appetizers. The entire staff was focused on serving the table of 14. I get they were making more money from the, but, we were paying customers too. We ordered sashimi, which shouldn't take long to prepare. But, the single sushi chef was not given our order "until we're finished with that group." So, the large group, who apparently thought they were the only customers, got all of the attention and we got none. In fact, at one point, the hostess went next door and retrieved a pizza for the group. The owner/manager seemed less than apologetic - "Well, the server made a mistake by not putting in your order." Perhaps, but HE was running around the entire time not doing a thing for customer service. So, HE was just as guilty. I wanted them to make it, but unless something changes, they won't. I prefer to end on a good note - the appetizers were very good.
