Absolutely excellent on all accounts. Hostess was beyond gracious. Server was attentive with great recommendations. The chefs deserve awards. Chicken tikka was the perfect size and delicious. Cauliflower and peas were just as good. Olive naan was terrific. Nothing was left behind.
Food was delicious and the service was incredibly attentive. It seemed a place where anything you ordered would be a great meal.
This upscale Indian restaurant is perfect for a special date night. It's a little pricier than other nearby Indian restaurants, but the ambiance is more formal, and the service was really great. The manager came by to check on us, and we received a complimentary little snack! I also spilled a little food on my jacket, and our waiter came over with club soda to help me. And of course the food is delicious, but the dessert is AMAZING! We tried something that was described to us as a "saffron and cardamom creme brulee," and it was FANTASTIC. I would definitely come back here (as long as someone else was paying).
I wish I could give it 10 stars. Really wonderful food, unique menu. Don’t be afraid of counter seating. We booked late and it was the only thing available. We had plenty of room (party of 2) and it still felt private enough to have a good conversation, plus we could see in the kitchen!
The food was excellent. It’s a modern take on traditional Indian fare. The price was very reasonable for the quality. We’d go there again in a heartbeat.
The food at Karma is outstanding! My fiancé and I are both big fans of Rasika, but we felt the food at Karma was superior. We can’t wait to eat here again. The ambiance in the main dining room is a little sterile - the space needs to be warmed up. We both noticed it. But, other than that, it was a fantastic meal and we will come back.
The place is excellent with the best service by the staff and management. Very personal service. But the food . The zucchini koftas were hard and the sauce had hardly any taste, just plain tomatoe sauce. The presentation of the potato dish was great. Tandoori cauliflower was so so. Mint Chicken was excellent.
Good food, though some of it seems too expensive for what you get (for example, the whole fish was $38, and was just average-- nothing special). Aside from that, the food was very good and not just your traditional chicken curry, which is refreshing. Also, they said that most everything is organic or wild caught or sustainably-farmed/ranched, which is great and hard to find! Very yummy zucchini kofta and coconut cake. They kept cancelling my opentable reservation because I didn't call them back, which was annoying.
Wonderful! Highly recommend! Food is delicious, bar drinks are amazing, service top notch and we had a fantastic time!
The food, presentation and service are all top notch. Their Butter Chicken entree may be the best I’ve had in DC.
I will return as I always do when in D.C. The food is quite good and our server was pleasant and sufficiently attentive. However, this was our least enjoyable visit for just a couple of reasons. First, the service was much slower. I presume it was due to it being on a crowded Saturday night. It wasn't unbearable, just noticeably slower. Second, I won't ever accept a seat (for 2) at the first two tables near the front. People tend to come in the front door and hang around behind you while they wait for a table. The ledge behind and to the side of you is wide enough for people to lean on and/or set their children on. The end result is eating with a lot of bodies hovering behind and to the side of you. I think the hosts and management should do a better job of keeping people from doing this since it's so obvious. Put some plants or something up there, I don't know, but do SOMETHING! Sitting at the counter is a better option.
My guest requested an entree which would not be spicy. She ordered an entree following our waiters' suggestion. When it arrived she thought it was quite spicy. When I commented to our waiter, he made a gesture indicating I should swap my entre for hers'! I more polished response would have been to offer her a replacement instead of suggesting I ate something I had not ordered.
My wife and I had a very nice dinner here on a rainy Friday night. I ordered the lamb shank, which was very good; and my wife ordered a vegetarian zucchini dumpling dish that just might be one of the most delicious dishes I've ever tasted! Both of our dishes were hot and spicy, but not too hot and spicy. Our waiter was excellent - very knowledgable and professional, and the manager was walking around making sure everybody was happy. The naan was great and the raita was super-fresh and chunky. The place looks new inside. It's extremely clean and the bathrooms are also very well-kept. We'll have to go back just to sit at the bar, which looks large and very inviting. I HIGHLY recommend Karma and we plan to return as soon as possible!
We had a great experience. The service was fantastic, and the food was interesting. The basic vegetarian dishes, like the daal and palak paneer, were outstanding, as were most of the other vegetarian dishes (we did the tasting menu, so got to try everything). Most of the meat dishes were less memorable, though the tandoori chicken and mint chicken were very good. Really the only downside was the price, which seemed excessive for what it was, especially for the drinks. However, overall I would recommend Karma and would definitely go back!
this was an amazig experience to dine for my birthday occasion.
Cocktails and food were outstanding! The service was wonderful.
We liked the modern twist to Indian cooking and especially appreciated that the dishes we ordered (curried cod, grilled vegetables, grilled sweet potatoes, olive naan) had a healthy feel to them. The food came out a bit slowly, which could have been a problem, since we were going to the theater afterward, but the waiter let us know as things wore on and was prompt in bringing the bill.
I've been wanting to try this place since last fall. Glad I did. The food was amazing. Indian yet modern and different. Can't wait to go back again to try some other dishes!!
It was an excellent restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone. Your taste buds will thank you
Best Indian Dining Experience in the US. Such polite & gracious staff. Amazing food & classy decor. Beats Junoon NYC
Exceptional service. On par with Rasika.
Could hardly taste rabadi in the dessert. No veggie biryani. How difficult is that to make?
The bartenders, particularly Carl, are awesome. Super friendly and they make fantastic cocktails. The food, however was just ok. Lamb Apricot had a really good flavor but was dry, tough, and over-cooked. Chicken Tikka was undercooked and lacking flavor. Prawns were smothered in sauce, and just not tasty. Garlic Naan was great but overall the menu leaves much to be desired.
Will definitely be back, for drinks ONLY.
The service (Alan) was great; prompt and courteous. We had the shrimp appetizer, apricot lamb small plate, garlic naan, and a signature chicken dish. All were 10/10. Topped off with perfect coconut cake! Reasonably priced for a great meal in a great venue.
We will be back!!
Food wasn't great at all.. We ordered Zucchini Kofta and Paneer Lajawab.. The sauce for both gravy was same though server didnt inform us, the sauce was too soury.
Worth going to! Food was presented (and tasted) well.
Great food and service. A definite stop when dining in DC
Yum! So delicious and so elegantly presented and served. A wonderful experience. When they get a Michelin star (which seems inevitable), I will be thrilled for them and sad for me in terms of flexibility in getting a reservation!
Glad we tried it! My butter chicken was divine. The perfect amount of sauce to rice and the chicken was so tender. I'll surely return.
Great food, good service, and elegant atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Wonderful food and service.
Food was very good. Service was friendly & knowledgeable. Ambiance has a good vibe. Will eat there again!
Great food, great host and best server who knew what to recommend and definitely knew the restaurant’s menu.
Great Indian fusion. Excited to come back and try more of the menu.
We didn’t have one bad dish, each plate was aesthetically pleasing and such a treat for our taste buds! I express how amazing it was. Highly recommend!
We introduced yet another couple to Karma Modern Indian, with great success. The mint chicken appetizer is a symphony of (gluten-free) flavors. The branzino and lamb were well prepared. Glad to see the joint hopping on a Friday night. This restaurant is a fine addition to the DC dining scene.
The food was awesome and the waiters suggestion was great. I loved the ambiance and the service was impeccable. We will definitely be going back
Went for Restaurant Week. The apps were disappointedly small. We had the lamb korma and mushroom biryani for the entrees- they both had entirely too much fenugreek. It wasn’t enough to stop eating, but neither plate was finished. The carrot dessert was REALLY good, but again too small. The ice cream was a bit too frozen.
Overall I might go again to try the regular menu
We came here for DC restaurant week and were impressed with the special and regular menu. We’ll definitely be back at another time. The dishes were wonderfully flavored and had a unique twist to what one would expect from a traditional Indian restaurant. The stuffed mushroom and bronzino were both great first time selections.
