Food was good and quite flavorful.
Service was great - we were asked "how is everything" maybe every 5 minutes! Food was very beautifully presented and spiced excellently
I went to Restaurant Week with my partner & chose Karma to check out , and it was absolutely wonderful. We were greeted by our lovely server , and he was the most attentive. Our 3-course menu selections were great, because of the fact there was enough options for every diet. I was very impressed. The drink menu was great, but I chose not to drink anything . My partner had a non-alcoholic drink , with the main player being star fruit. I can’t remember the name.
We both ordered the Mumbai Sliders , for our First Course . The Pav was toasted well & was so buttery. The potatoes & vegetables were so flavorful and spicy, not too spicy, though. Moving on , my partner ordered the Lamb Kadhai & I selected the Pindi Chickpeas with Garlic Naan , added on to the order. The garlic naan was amazing flavorful and moist. The chickpeas were simmered well & the rice was great. My partner was barely saying much, which isn’t always the case, because he was too busy stuffing his face. He really enjoyed the lamb. He kept talking about how tender the lamb was & how the sauce left a spicy after taste.
We couldn’t stay to indulge in dessert , because the Halwa and Pistachio dessert contained nuts , and my partner has a nut allergy. I didn’t want to try , because of a personal preference, as I never really liked nuts to begin with. But, I’m sure it was good.
Overall , I thoroughly enjoyed my restaurant experience at Karma. The manager came often to make sure we were ok, as did the lovely hostess & waitstaff. As like our previous visit, which was for a Valentine’s Day dinner, 2 years ago, this experience was no different, a wonderful one.
Karma Modern Indian is a GEM , in the city!!! I love coming here & I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Indian food or wants to try something new. Good food , drinks , staff & ambiance ? Amazing formula for a great restaurant.
Karma had excellent service and felt like a 5 star experience. Thanks to Alex and the team for providing the excellent service.
Food was nothing to write home about. Good service. The atmosphere is severely lacking.
Over all good, food was just spicy enough and tasted authentic. I would have preferred the dishes to be little bit more warmer as 1 dish was at room temperature but other one was just right.
The food at Karma is always outstanding. The only reason I didn't give the highest mark is that our waiter seemed to have an attitude toward our table of 3 women. It wasn't my imagination; one of my guests thought I should talk to the manager, but I let it pass because all the other wait staff, host station, etc. were terrific, as usual.
Excellent food but pricey (especially for the amount of food received compared to other Indian restaurants which tend to have more shareable sized dishes). Our server was very inattentive (i.e., had to ask for water repeatedly, pour own wine, get own replacement fork. ) The time between courses was too long.
The food is beautiful, delicious and healthy too. Great service and great ambiance. It is worth it every time! I love it there!
Outstanding food and service. Can see why the Michelin sign is by the door. Cauliflower and paneer both outstanding appetizer. Olive naan wonderful. Cheese and herb Naan excellent. Zucchini balls in wonderful sauce. Asked if they had cooking classes ( no but they should)
The food at Karma is out of this world! We couldn’t get enough and can’t wait to return again.
Food and cocktails were excellent. Everyone in our party of 5 was very happy. The Salt Temple cocktail was outstanding. We wanted primarily vegetables for appetizers, so stuck with apps rather than small plates. But, they made us a large plate of curried cauliflowers to share. Wonderful sauce.
Green Peas and Edamame Tikki were very tasty. Just enough for us al to get one or two bites.
The Branzino filets did not come in a sauce, but had a very nice, slightly hot chili rub on them that kept them nice and moist. The generous portion was on a nice bed of cooked greens that melded with the heat of the fish beautifully.
Halibut sauce was fantastic, as was the Lamb Roganjosh.
Outstanding in every respect. Very attentative service, had the family style dinner, great food, great value. A great, great evening.
You will not be disappointed! Great food with little surprises along the journey. Try it out and you will see. Recommended!
Amazing 3-course meal, great drinks, excellent hosting. A must!
Great food, presentation, cocktails, ambience and service! Had visited Punjab Grill but LOVE the food and cocktails at Karma. Can’t wait to go back!
We had a first class New Years Eve dinner.
Very attentive service, excellent cocktails, and a mix of traditional Indian favorites done well with less traditional takes on several items. Enjoyed the venison special and the halibut.
I went to DC for a weekend and I went there with my girlfriend. The foods were delicious and authentic. It’s just a little spicy. The service was great. No doubt. I recommend it for you like good foods.
Karma never disappoints. The food is always flavorful, well prepared, and delicious. I bring so many guests here and they always love love love it. Service is extra fast and attentive. Will continue to come back!
Food was delicious. Service impeccable.
Amazing as always. Excellent service, including the host.
Food was perfect thanks to an inventive chef. Scallops and butter chicken—can’t go wrong with that order. Beautiful restaurant.
For our first visit, the tasting menu was the way to go. Branzino was amazing! Best we've had in awhile. We also ordered the octopus - limted time on menu. I may have dreams about that - such a lovely balance of sweet, savory, spicy & a bit of char on the meat. We look forward to going back & trying other items.
Our server was rude and the delivery of the good was chaotic and confusing. No one at the table knew where the food was that they ordered. I won't go back.
We went to Karma for our office holiday luncheon. Everyone loved it. I will definitely go back. Our only recommendation would be to include something chocolate on the dessert menu!
Service and food was amazing. Haven’t been to a place that from start to finish it was this outstanding. Only downsize is the portion sizing for price paid. Kind of pricey for smaller portions, but otherwise, really great place.
Wow! First we attended Alison Roman’s interview which was fantastic? Then to be so fortunate to still across the street to Karma was so good
, we so enjoyed our dinner. The preparation was excellent, service was perfect and the ambiance was intimate & spacious. The familiar faces really send the message of a well run restaurant! Can’t wait to go back!
The food was fabulous and the service amazing. Totally recommended!!
The $40 prix fixe dinner was good overall. By the end we were full. Our main comment is the courses arrived to our table a little too quickly, in that we weren't quite finished with one before the next was dropped at our table. It would've been nice to have a little time to finish and talk about the plate. Speaking of, this is more personal, but I don't like when they clear the plate from one guest's place while the other is still eating. It may be a personal preference, but Karma staff did this multiple times and it made my companion feel even more rushed. There were times where the next course was placed next to the previous course, because they were still eating. Neither of us are slow eaters either. Long way to say, I'd love to see the timing of dishes cleaned up just a little bit.
All dishes were well-presented with the branzino being very nice. The hawla, a carrot based dessert was also tasty.
The staff was very nice, especially Alex the waiter who took over when our first one went home for the evening.
All in all, a decent restaurant with a balanced, modern menu. Maybe we'll see you there sometime.
The shrimp tandoori were a little blend. Not sure if i was serve frozen shrimp or if they were boiled before being marinated and grilled but the taste and texture wasn’t it. The mango salsa that goes with it was awesome!
I recommend the venison chops and the cheese naan. The venison was serve with grilled vegetables that were cut and cooked to perfection. We also like the side of the lamp chops. It was some kind of seasoned mashed potatoes. The mushroom naan was also good but the quality of the olives in the olive naan is also to be reviewed. The staff was wonderful and attentive.
We loved the biryani chicken the best i have had so far as well as the tandoori chicken.
We loved the complementary quinoa bite and the rose water sorbet.
Overall a good experience!!!
Went with high hopes. Found food to be a little above average. Was expecting much more. They still have a lot of catching to do if they want to be in the top 5 Indian restaurants in DC.
The food was delicious. The service was fantastic and the overall ambience was amazing. The butter chicken was delicious, the tandoori shrimp were fabulous and the naan bread was some of the best that we have had. We will definitely go back to this restaurant.
Was fairly thin on Monday for dinner, but the chef and the service showed up even if the people didn't. We went for a date which was okay, but there are more business meetings and group dinners. Good is outstanding. Owner/manager comes to your table, staff are willing to serve you. We had a great time and I will go back-
The food was amazing. The restaurant is beautiful. I love the sliders! Wait for vegetarian/vegan.We are definitely going back
Unfamiliar with Indian food, waitress went above & beyond describing heat temperature for our palates.
We went for our anniversary and were treated like royalty. The service was amazing. We were welcomed by smiling faces, our table had a special sign that said “happy anniversary” and after our dinner completed we were offered both cake and champagne on the house. Dinner service was phenomenal. We were offered tastings by the chef, a delicious sorbet between courses and the wait staff even cleaned our table mid way through dinner service. The location was super convenient yet intimate and cozy. I didn’t feel like I was in the city, yet I was. The ambience was very relaxing and the decor was modern and chic. Overall we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend if you’re celebrating a special occasion!
THE most amazing dining experience in DC .
THE best craft cocktails and by far the best and only
Indian fusion cuisine in DC .
The food was very very good. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because we looked to order a few items with less spice and were told the sauces were already made and not available less spicy. I understand making sauces ahead of time to give them time to blend and develop flavor. That said, maybe offering the same sauce without the heat would be good. One of my dining companions had chosen one entree and then passed on it because he couldn't order it low spice. This was the case for his second choice entree as well. Normally we wouldn't have asked but the roasted cauliflower appetizer was extremely spicy (and wasn't marked as such on the menu) so we were concerned what the entree dishes would be like. Our service was good and we were able to hear one another over dinner. The food we did order was excellent and obviously prepared by very talented chefs.
Outstanding upscale Indian dinner. Would normally never do a complete dinner menu for the table but the three of us were intrigued by the "Inquisitve Dinner". It was off the charts delicious, lots of food and many different tastes. Highly recommend the food and the staff was exceptional.
NOT traditional Indian. you will miss not having mango lassi here (only reason i gave a 4 star- traditional drink should be part of menu). and no falooda (hard to find anyhow)
This is a modern twist on some traditional indian. presentation cant be beat. everything was outstanding.
i had the grilled vegetables and grilled cauliflour, was mouthwatering blend of flavor. Garlic naan was what you would expect. and i was blown away with the lamb cubes on a bed of apricot and papaya.
for desert i had warm carrot halwa, with ceushed pistacios. best ive ever had. service was superb. server was wonderful
i wish we had one of these restaurants in Boston
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review and we are pleased to learn that you enjoyed the food and service at Karma during your recent visit. We shall look forward to hosting you again and we hope to be in Boston one day. Our concept is not traditional Indian but that is not the reason we don't serve Mango Lassi. On the contrary, although Lassi is a traditional drink (plain yogurt drink - served with salt or sugar), Mango Lassi is not served in restaurants in northern India. Regards, Karma Team
