We had the best time!!
The food is good although the vegetarian choices in the main course are limited. The ambience is great.
The service needs improvement. We were seated for quite a while before the waiter came in to take our drink orders. Once we had finished our meal, we asked the waiter to take a picture and he was less than enthusiastic about it and asked another person (? busboy) to do so.
First time to Karma Saturday evening 2/15. Elegant dining, great food and service. Look forward to going again soon.
We ordered a 4 course meal for a expensive price of $75 and the waiter did not serve us the first course. I realized that before we ended the meal. Darn bad treatment. Very bad decision coming here and would not recommend the place
The service was fantastic. We had the Valentine's Day prix fixe. You got a complimentary glass of rosé which was very good and options for 3 of 4 courses for $75/a person.
The first course (not optional) was a cold quinoa salad. I wish the ingredients had been listed on the menu because it had cucumbers in it and me and cucumbers are not friends :)
My husband had the Mumbai sliders and the lamb chops both of which were delicious. The branzino was delightful and dessert was amazing.
I would absolutely go back again. Service was efficient and everyone was friendly but not hoovering.
The food was healthy, filling and delicious. The service was flawless. The owner ensures that every diner feels and eats like royalty!
My strongest recommendation. Service and food were terrific. We are big fans of Indian Cuisine and had never been here. Extremely attentive service and outstanding food that had a twist from typical Indian food. Fun bar area with great happy hour specials. Bartender was excellent and creative with serving up some unique drinks.
We went to Karma for birthday celebration dinner. We ended up going for the 'For the inquisitive' option. The dishes, the service was perfect. Each item on the menu had a good presentation & taste. We really enjoyed ourselves & had a memorable dinner.
Cocktails were excellent, personable bartender. We choose the fix-priced “inquisitive” menu and were not disappointed. Never felt rushed. Overall wonderful.
The dining experience at Karma Modern Indian was exceptional! Everything from the food to the service was outstanding. My fiancee and I were celebrating our friends' marriage, and the manager brought us glasses of champagne, which was a very kind gesture. The food is delicious! The staff were very accommodating as I am celiac and our friend has a nut allergy.
This is by far one of the best restaurants in DC !!
Not to be missed !!!!
Wonderful service, upscale version of Indian fare, a gew
Creative varieties and top notch service and ambiance! From start to finish the food did not disappoint- the tandoori cauliflower, chicken jodhpur, and mumbai sliders were table standouts!
Was treated very well for my first visit. The tasting option was great and very generous with the amount of food we got. They even brought a piece of cake for my friend's birthday, in addition to the desserts that were included. Looking forward to my next visit.
Once again, Karma delivers! Our food was delicious and the staff very gracious and accommodating. Just a block from the DC Convention Center and Capitol One Arena in Penn Quarter. It’s a great place for a casual or business meal with new or old friends.
This is my second time enjoying the food and ambiance at Karma Modern Indian. A hidden gem in between DC’s Mount Vernon Square and China Town, this restaurant offers everything and more that you could want in a modern dining experience. From modern decor, impeccable service, and tastefully presented and thoughtfully executes dishes you will be sure to enjoy.
Food was amazing. Everything we had there was delicious, not overpowering with spices and curry but just the right amount of flavor. Highly recommend this place.
Great Indian food and outstanding service. Will come again.
Great experience, good food.
Fantastic service, food, and ambiance — can’t wait to eat here again!
Nice meld of East meets west except the venison sauce was too over powering for the meat. The chef does seafood very well. The scallops were melt in your mouth and the halibut was divine.
I ate here for the first time last week with several friends. We all had different dishes and everyone enjoyed their choices. Each dish was beautifully presented, as well as being delicious. The cocktail, beer, and wine list had a nice selection including a few mocktails. The service was attentive, with multiple individuals checking on our needs throughout the evening. Noise level was moderate, but it was a weeknight and they weren't super busy. Actually, based on the quality of our meal and service, I'm surprised it was not busier. I definitely plan to return for another meal.
Food was good and quite flavorful.
Service was great - we were asked "how is everything" maybe every 5 minutes! Food was very beautifully presented and spiced excellently
I went to Restaurant Week with my partner & chose Karma to check out , and it was absolutely wonderful. We were greeted by our lovely server , and he was the most attentive. Our 3-course menu selections were great, because of the fact there was enough options for every diet. I was very impressed. The drink menu was great, but I chose not to drink anything . My partner had a non-alcoholic drink , with the main player being star fruit. I can’t remember the name.
We both ordered the Mumbai Sliders , for our First Course . The Pav was toasted well & was so buttery. The potatoes & vegetables were so flavorful and spicy, not too spicy, though. Moving on , my partner ordered the Lamb Kadhai & I selected the Pindi Chickpeas with Garlic Naan , added on to the order. The garlic naan was amazing flavorful and moist. The chickpeas were simmered well & the rice was great. My partner was barely saying much, which isn’t always the case, because he was too busy stuffing his face. He really enjoyed the lamb. He kept talking about how tender the lamb was & how the sauce left a spicy after taste.
We couldn’t stay to indulge in dessert , because the Halwa and Pistachio dessert contained nuts , and my partner has a nut allergy. I didn’t want to try , because of a personal preference, as I never really liked nuts to begin with. But, I’m sure it was good.
Overall , I thoroughly enjoyed my restaurant experience at Karma. The manager came often to make sure we were ok, as did the lovely hostess & waitstaff. As like our previous visit, which was for a Valentine’s Day dinner, 2 years ago, this experience was no different, a wonderful one.
Karma Modern Indian is a GEM , in the city!!! I love coming here & I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Indian food or wants to try something new. Good food , drinks , staff & ambiance ? Amazing formula for a great restaurant.
Karma had excellent service and felt like a 5 star experience. Thanks to Alex and the team for providing the excellent service.
Food was nothing to write home about. Good service. The atmosphere is severely lacking.
Over all good, food was just spicy enough and tasted authentic. I would have preferred the dishes to be little bit more warmer as 1 dish was at room temperature but other one was just right.
The food at Karma is always outstanding. The only reason I didn't give the highest mark is that our waiter seemed to have an attitude toward our table of 3 women. It wasn't my imagination; one of my guests thought I should talk to the manager, but I let it pass because all the other wait staff, host station, etc. were terrific, as usual.
Excellent food but pricey (especially for the amount of food received compared to other Indian restaurants which tend to have more shareable sized dishes). Our server was very inattentive (i.e., had to ask for water repeatedly, pour own wine, get own replacement fork. ) The time between courses was too long.
The food is beautiful, delicious and healthy too. Great service and great ambiance. It is worth it every time! I love it there!
i love karma modern indian. best service ever. just some of the things can be a bit weird. like the paneer was not as soft as i would like it to be.
Outstanding food and service. Can see why the Michelin sign is by the door. Cauliflower and paneer both outstanding appetizer. Olive naan wonderful. Cheese and herb Naan excellent. Zucchini balls in wonderful sauce. Asked if they had cooking classes ( no but they should)
The food at Karma is out of this world! We couldn’t get enough and can’t wait to return again.
Food and cocktails were excellent. Everyone in our party of 5 was very happy. The Salt Temple cocktail was outstanding. We wanted primarily vegetables for appetizers, so stuck with apps rather than small plates. But, they made us a large plate of curried cauliflowers to share. Wonderful sauce.
Green Peas and Edamame Tikki were very tasty. Just enough for us al to get one or two bites.
The Branzino filets did not come in a sauce, but had a very nice, slightly hot chili rub on them that kept them nice and moist. The generous portion was on a nice bed of cooked greens that melded with the heat of the fish beautifully.
Halibut sauce was fantastic, as was the Lamb Roganjosh.
Outstanding in every respect. Very attentative service, had the family style dinner, great food, great value. A great, great evening.
You will not be disappointed! Great food with little surprises along the journey. Try it out and you will see. Recommended!
Amazing 3-course meal, great drinks, excellent hosting. A must!
The food is amazing!
Great food, presentation, cocktails, ambience and service! Had visited Punjab Grill but LOVE the food and cocktails at Karma. Can’t wait to go back!
