My wife and I ordered off thr prix fixe menu for Bethesda row restaurant week. There was plenty to eat...too much, actually. The food was generally well prepared. However, almost every dish was heavily seasoned. The service was generally adequate but not great. We did enjoy a nice bottle of Greek wine.
Service was fantastic and attentive. Food was really tasty with great portions for sharing.
Delicious food. And the presentation is very nice. Good selection for all tastes!
Wine list varied with god options by glass.
I would highly recommend. But pricey!
We were there for brunch to meet new family and hoped for reasonable quiet for conversation. We did go late in the brunch time period in order to miss the biggest crowd. We were not disappointed. Although the restaurant space is largely open, we had no problem hearing each other. The food was very good, we each tried several of the smaller dishes and shared. The wait staff person was great and very patient with us as we balanced menu decisions and conversation. Would definitely recommend and plan to return. This was our first visit.
we have been for brunch. the menu was very limited, not impressive, food quality average for this type of food, very small portions, taking a few makes it too expensive for the quality. We asked for regular lunch menu, that preparation was better. There are Greek food places a lot better then this one, we expected more.
Pleasantly surprised! Great food and ambiance.
The food was very rushed. We were eating our appetizers and they brought out the entrees. After we said something they waited until we were ready for the entrees. They gave us a free dessert. Also, it was very noisy.
The service could be a little more welcoming and gracious. We felt pushed to the bar and then rushed by our waiter. Not very polished.
Went for lunch with a friend. The restaurant is always a bit noisy but less so for lunch than dinner (it appears). Our server, Erik, was a delight, and the three dips (Tzakziki, hummus and lentil dip) and the Horatiki salad were plenty for the two of us. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch!
This is the umpteenth time I’ve been back. Please don’t change the menu, or at least keep the favorites! I’ve stopped going to nearby haunts because they’ve dropped some fabulous vegetarian options from their menu.
Great food, attentive service. Never disappoints!
Lunch at Kapnos much quieter than evening din. Had tasty gyros special which comes with salad and companion had cous cous salad. Very pleasant. Service almost too attentive w/ folks whisking plates away as we barely finished.
Great place, not my first time and not my last
They rushed us through our meal
The food was very good, but the noise level is very high.
Excellent food, but a little pricey for what you get, particularly the wine by the glass.
Good for dinner, not for brunch. After two good dinners at Kapnos, I decided try their brunch. Unfortunately the food was rather bland (surprisingly) and unimaginative, at a higher price than comparable brunch venues. The side dishes (tzatziki, beet salad, lemon potatoes) were more flavorful than the three egg dishes we tried, although even those were accompanied by pita bread that was salted to an overwhelming level.
This was my sixth or seventh time here and I was disappointed. We had an 8pm reservation and didn’t even see our waiter for 20 minutes, until one of us asked the manager why no one had come to the table to get our drink orders. Food came out we didn’t order, or came out twice, and they were out of all Mataxa (on a Saturday night?!). The icing on the cake was that after such horrible service, our waiter had the gall to put 20% gratuity on the bill. Needless to say it left a sour feeling on all of us, despite how great the food was.
Good food but way too loud. Please try to do something about the volume. Also the size of the various dishes is quite varied.
Food is marginal. Most dishes were very salty. Waiters were good. Had a table issue and while management was trying to solve it came with an attitude but in the end was sorted. As Greek food goes there are so many other great options.
Good food, gerlta loud quickly. The chef's sampler is a good choice, lots of variety. The fried chicken and brussel sprouts were the highlights of this visit.
Both times great! Exceptional food and service. But the seats are hard wood. Offering/ providing seat cushions would make a big difference in comfort!
Food was quite good and I also always enjoy the wines. Service was a little slow despite not many people as I was there late in the lunch cycle.
Love here. Their service was marvelous!! And all the food was so delicious!
One of my favorite restaurants. Excellent fish and chicken.
Delightful server, Rose, was quite helpful without hovering. Prompt service and attention. Food was wonderful, beautifully presented. One of the best places to dine in Bethesda. I have never had anything except top notch meals at Kapnos Kouzina!
One visit will make you want to return soon.
Really enjoyed being there on Sunday night when it wasn't crowded. The noise level, which was our main objection before, was tolerable and we could her what our friends were saying. Enjoyed all the dishes we ordered and thought there was a good variety.
Two women dining out to celebrate birthdays and friendship... confirmed reservation held for over a month.... treated rudely from the get go... tried to seat us by the water/espresso service station initially -- given a better table and then rushed from start to finish... waiters trying to take dishes before food finished... incorrect dish brought to table (lamb)and then rudely asked what the dish was supposed to be (scallops -- don't know how the waiter would misunderstand "scallops" and bring "lamb "instead -- had the same waiter previously... assume he was under pressure... )... hadn't been there for an hour when someone, assuming the manager, came up and basically told us to move to the bar b/c he needed the table -- (we were drinking coffee & tea and had just finished dessert) (p.s. we noticed no one else seemed to be rushed...) absolutely worst service/treatment ever -- we'd both been before, myself with out of town guests and family... manager gave us a couple of coupons for free "spreads" at the bar... especially with all going on w/Mike Isabella, wrong time to be treating paying guests poorly, especially female paying guests... (and maybe remind your staff that DC is FULL of professional women who eat out A LOT and ,in fact, in a lot of families women make the decisions about what restaurants to go to...)... last time for me... unfortunately, the food will be missed...
The food is okay. The fried items are superior to the other offerings. The crispy eggplant and zucchini were good. The hummus, the octopus, the beet salad, the Horiatiki (Greek Village Salad) were just passable. The broccolini and brussel sprouts were just okay. The portions of salmon, beef, and chicken kabob were very small (even by tapas standards)and tasted just okay. Dinner is fun, however, fun does not make up for average and overpriced items.
Also, the pace of the food was all over the place. The first couple of items came out, and then a long pause. At one point, we were certain the staff had forgotten to bring the kabobs. It was a long long dinner for no good reason.
Loved the place! I went there with a Gilt City voucher. At first we got there too early and had to wait at the bar... probably the best thing that could have happened. They have happy hour on weekends and everything I tried was great! We ended up eating our five course meal at the bar, and it was SO MUCH FOOD but so delicious. Will definitely visit again!!! Highly recommend.
Very loud too loud
Food is great. Service not so great. Place is very loud.
The food was terrific and the waiter, Matt, was outstanding. We will return soon.
The waiter wasn't very friendly. That was disappointing.
Consistently great food and service!! Fourth visit.
Spano-scramble was excellent. Fried chicken and waffles disappointing in that two of the three pieces of chicken were very, very dry. Although offerings are "small plates" they are very generous small plates. Kolokithokeftedes and falafel were delicious. The star of the Crispy eggplant were the harissa, capers, pickled onion accompaniment. We will eat here again however will steer clear of the fried chicken.
Fantastatic food and great service. We were very well taken care of and they ensured our experience was very positive.
Went on a Wednesday night and the restaurant although busy was not packed. Met friends. The food was very good including whole fish, chicken and a variety of vegetable dishes. Service was excellent and properly paced which is particularly important for a small plates meal. Overall a good experience and worth the money.
Neighborhood gem. We come often, and will continue to do so. Food is uniquely special, service is invariably great, and the experience over all is special. This is a very well managed restaurant that never disappoints.
Best brunch in the area.
