About
Restaurant is closed, and they did not inform Open Table. We arrived with seven people for a reservation. The doors were locked and there was no explanation.
I had a reservation for January 30, 2018. Kapnos restaurant went out of business 4 days before and no one bothered to send us a heads up. Neither Kapnos nor Open Table which still thinks that Kapnos in Bethesda is still open and asked me to confirm the day before and now asks for a review of Kapnos!!!!! Fantastic job you Opentable guys !!!! Please keep it up!!!! It adds a lot to your credibility!!!!!
The restaurant is closed forever.
We arrived to discover the restaurant closed permanently. Despite no notice on their website, which I checked late afternoon, and Open Table repeatedly reminding us or our reservation. Dispute with the landlord and had been closed 5 days previously.
Food and service were good but not over the top. I will be happy to return but no time soon.
Another great lunch! The salmon taco is delicious (I ordered a side of feta to go with it and it was amazing.)
I was there two weeks ago, a couple of days ago, and I can't wait to go back again.
Great service and excellent food!
I previously went to the Kapnos on 14th St for brunch - which was great. Unfortunately, I will not return to the one in Bethesda. The service was terrible. It took several requests for our drinks to arrive; they came after almost all of our food. At the same time, the waiter continued to try to take our plates away when we were not done (and the restaurant wasn't busy to try to turn over the table). The waiter also did not properly explain the drink specials, and we received a bill much larger than intended given the poor explanation. Finally, I got super sick from the food for several hours after brunch. Big disappointment for an expensive meal.
Delicious food and great variety we went for dinner and will do it again
Second time there, like night and day. First time three weeks ago was great...after this won’t return. Waitress confused, mixed up our orders. We had tapas and entrees...my entree came only after a reminder to manager and 20 minutes after my date’s. Brought out wrong food. They offered a dessert to make up for it and got that wrong.
Very disappointing. Food was very greasy, and everything tasted as if had been sautéed in the same grease. Very salty too. Not at all like the Kapnos on 14th Street, which I guess is now closed or closing. There are many, many better restaurants in DC, and even in Bethesda. Plus I ordered an extra dry martini; it came with too much vermouth, and had to be remade.
Took way too long to get a drink! Otherwise great food and atmosphere
I did not like the fact that the happy hour prices is only for the bar and not the tables
It was very nasty. Food had no seasonings. Won’t come back.
Delicious lamb chops, accommodating waiter, helpful hostess and a “non-deafening”table. Very pleasant experience and we will return.
This restaurant seems to have fallen off in quality.
We love this restaurant and have never had a bad meal. The dips and bread are so yummy . Best fried chicken! Love the vegetables, sliders and basically everything on the menu!
We’ve been to Kapnos several times, but this visit was just ok. Service was great, but all the food was incredibly salty this time around. Just put a damper on several items that are usually a favorite.
The food was good, especially the whole bronzino, and the waiter's guidance was very helpful. The restaurant is basically a large bar with some tables for diners and smaller tables for people snacking at the bar or having mezes. The noise level is unbearable for trying to eat a meal; you have to shout at the person across the table from you. I'd come back, but maybe early in the dinner hour as they open, or perhaps for lunch/brunch, but never again on a Friday or Saturday night.
I haven't been to Kapnos for several months. I always liked it but this time I loved it! My salmon gyro for lunch was terrific and was very reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back!
Excellent food. Very nice service. Great diversity on the menu. This is tapas style and worked quite well for a group of three with three plates per person. WIll def come back.
This was my 2nd visit to Kapnos. I enjoyed our happy hour food and drinks, but was very disappointed in our meal. We ordered the same 2 items from our first visit(a month ago) because they were so good. The reason we came back was the food. This time. Not even close. We ordered the lamb shoulder and hanger steak. This visit the lamb was dry and chewy. The steak took forever to get to us. Probably 10 minutes after the lamb. Then when I get it it's charcoal. I had to send it back. The waiter was nice and took care of getting me another order. The flavor was not the same as last time.
If this had been my first time here, I would not have come back. I loved the spreads, but the meals were just not good. I came all the way from Howard County for a meal that was disappointing. Sorry. Not sure I'll be back.
Great food. Only problem is that I didn't know that it was tapas.
Brought my aunt who is a little hard of hearing, and I noticed how loud it is inside for the first time ever (even though I am somewhat of a regular there). The food was excellent — as was the cocktail I had — but I think it's important to know that this is not a great place to bring people who can't hear well.
The food is always good at Kapnos. They offer a good variety to choose from and everything is always tasty. While the service and food rank high on my list, I wish the restaurant would pay closer attention to bathroom cleanliness. I expect more from this type of restaurant.
Both eggplant and lamb dishes were extremely favorful and service was attentive.
Oh how far this once wonderful restaurant has fallen! While the service was always a little diffident, it is now just plain uncaring. The restaurant was almost empty but our food took a very long time to come out, as did our drinks. My mule was dreadful! Food was consistently over salted to the point of being almost inedible, especially the crispy eggplant. This place used to be my favorite spot in Bethesda and I have eaten there many times. Monday night however was my last meal there. They will not get one more penny from my family.
The waiter and overall service was terrific. May be the best place in Bethesda today.
Good food excellent service wine was over priced but that may be Montgomery County
We had a wonderful family dinner the night before Thanksgiving with our adult children. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the Brussel sprouts, the zucchini fritters, and the fried chicken. The hummus was outstanding!
Great service, excellent cocktails & wine list with a delicious menu.
Several dishes were too salty. Cauliflower dish was very good.
We enjoyed our first visit to Kapnos. Server recommended 3-4 plates a person, but we were full from 1 spread, a vege tapas and a half chicken—with a lunch to take home. In other words, the small plates are generous. Solicitous service, a good house wine and a bar that shouted come back for happy hour.
Service was horrific. I’ve been here several times and never had such poor service. Waiter was inattentive, unhelpful and just rude.
Food was great as usual. Service was just “ok”. We had to constantly remind waiter that we were there. We were a big group..12. Restaurant was pretty empty and not too busy.
It is to loud. Otherwise it is a fantastic place with very good service and the food is excellent
Our waiter, Michael was so wonderful and made some suggestions, which were perfect! The cocktails were amazing and the food was so delicious! We had so much fun discussing which were our favorites. All of us will be returning!
Great food and ambiance and service as always
We go to Kapnos quite a bit, we love the Brussel sprouts and Bronzino and the food was fantastic Last night we waited 40 minutes for a 7:45pm reservation. I get 15 minutes, but not 40. They were trying hard to make it up to us and they were extremely busy and clearly people were taking their time leaving. The host desk was manned by a blond haired young lady who was one of those people, you see on TV of what not to do. First off she told the other gentleman at the host desk, she mouthed come here and gave him a hug(he was clearly uncomfortable with that), then watching for 40 minutes, she spent an inordinate amount of time on her cell phone, as we were leaving, my husband mentioned to me that she would be fired at his workplace. With all Mike Isabella's issues, glad to see his restaurant is doing well, the food is great, he might want to speak to his hosts.
Service was great, the waiter made suggestions but didn’t push us to over order. Highly recommend.
