Kapnos Kouzina is part of Mike Isabella’s growing, Greek empire expansion, and a highly attractive place to have dinner.
We enjoyed a family dinner at Kapnos Kouzina. Every item we selected was delicious. Even people who normally claim to dislike a food, loved the preparation and the taste at Kapnos. The only minor flaw is that one item was sent to another table, however, we received an extra dessert. Each dish is creatively conceived and the presentation is excellent. After several visits, it's hard to find any flaws in the menu. The lamb is outstanding, the eggplant appealed to everyone, the asparagus was delicious, and the shrimp was delightful. People who don't normally like potatoes loved the ones at Kapnos. The desserts, which have been a bit uneven in the past were excellent when we visited.
Food was great. Too too noisy.
Birthday Really fun
I have been to Kapnos Kuzina many times. It was a Friday night and the bar was closed for 2 private parties. I wish I had know that beforehand because it was SO LOUD and no chance to get Happy Hour prices.
My biggest disappointment was they took the beet salad off the menu! Major bummer! Its the best thing on the menu!
very nice evening, good food and attentive service
Lack of consistency in the same dish from plate to plate. Disappointing as the food used to good here. Also charging for harissa seems cheap at a high end restaurant.
Birthday candle experience is unique.
Food was good. The portions was small and quite costly. Should not go to this restaurant if you are hungry. Overall a pleasant experience.
Confusion seemed to be prevalent here. We were shown to a seat that already had people sitting, then placed in an area where the servers collected the food, then put in an area where the flames from the cooking caused us to sweat within 3 minutes. We finally were put away from the heat area, but still overlooking the kitchen which ended up being the most entertaining part of the meal. We were told 3 times the sommelier would be coming over - she never did - we were told she was too busy. Food was good, but evening was so chaotic that it was not relaxing or enjoyable. Probably will never go back.....
Opted for the chef’s tasting menu. Food was very good. Interesting mix of dishes and more than enough for the four of us. Restaurant is very noisy though, so my only complaint is that we couldn’t hear the servers when they described the dishes they were bringing to our table, and they seemed to be rushing around, so not willing to stay and repeat the description.
We had an excellent meal.
Great place to gather with friends. Lots of variety and fun twists on dishes. Will be back!
I eat here all the time and have never been disappointed! Had reservations for the main dining room but wound up at the bar for happy hour! What a great deal! The drinks were very reasonable and the happy hour menu was perfect! Great spot for lunch and now I know it’s a great spot for after work drinks.
Don't go here if you want regular Greek food. There is only 2 lamb items on menu and one is a very expensive family style portion. I had been a year ago when visiting Bethesda and had forgotten what the menus was like. Service was ok but still not over impressed with food.
What a yum restaurant close to home!!! Everything was excellent as usual.
I keep coming back because the food is excellent and the service great.
Second time to Kapnos in Bethesda. Great food for sharing. Service was good. The place was a bit loud on a Friday night so be prepared to yell at your dining partners to be heard over the constant buzz. It would be awesome if they could do something with ceiling or floors to absorb sound.
We have loved this place in the past but the quality of the restaurant has gone down. The service people were nice but very disorganized. We waited 25 minutes for our cocktails to be brought and they weren't the right drinks. The waitress was nice but needs more training....her timing was way off (she wanted to bring our food before we'd gotten our cocktails, etc.) The food was not cooked all the way through...hopefully things will improve.
Started with my favorite egg plant, Walnut, feta spread with the delicious made in-house bread that is pita like but unique. Loved the cauliflower dish. Also enjoyed the shrimp and pasta. Wasn't a fan of the tuna tartare even though I love sushi.
This was the first time at Kapnos Kouzina for 4 of us who are all seniors. We are getting a bit picky with age about the increasing noise volume in restaurants. Kapnos is off the charts loud -- there is no way we could have heard each other talk if we had sat inside -- fortunately it was a warm night and we had outside seating. The service was not outstanding -- I am not sure if sitting outside had anything to do with that, but our server was not particularly attentive -- things got better when a second server arrived in the outdoor area. Other than those 2 things, the meal was outstanding. All the food items we tried were simply delicious. Zucchini fritters were the best we've ever tasted and the lamb shoulder, brussel sprouts, sampler of 3 dips, etc.. everything was so tasty and combined fresh and innovative ingredients. The portions are very generous mezze -- larger than some other restaurants and a bit pricier but a very nice size for sharing among 4 people. All in all, returning is questionable due to the very loud bar scene inside.
Great flavors and somewhat different for "american' food. the service was efficient and knowledgeable. Lots of good spices and vegetables. I loved every bite!
Really poor service.
Went for restaurant week. The food was very good with sizable portions. Would recommend going back.
Went to try for Bethesda Row restaurant week. Good experience. Will now try happy hour.
My wife and I ordered off thr prix fixe menu for Bethesda row restaurant week. There was plenty to eat...too much, actually. The food was generally well prepared. However, almost every dish was heavily seasoned. The service was generally adequate but not great. We did enjoy a nice bottle of Greek wine.
Service was fantastic and attentive. Food was really tasty with great portions for sharing.
Delicious food. And the presentation is very nice. Good selection for all tastes!
Wine list varied with god options by glass.
I would highly recommend. But pricey!
We were there for brunch to meet new family and hoped for reasonable quiet for conversation. We did go late in the brunch time period in order to miss the biggest crowd. We were not disappointed. Although the restaurant space is largely open, we had no problem hearing each other. The food was very good, we each tried several of the smaller dishes and shared. The wait staff person was great and very patient with us as we balanced menu decisions and conversation. Would definitely recommend and plan to return. This was our first visit.
we have been for brunch. the menu was very limited, not impressive, food quality average for this type of food, very small portions, taking a few makes it too expensive for the quality. We asked for regular lunch menu, that preparation was better. There are Greek food places a lot better then this one, we expected more.
Chefs Kat and Steve run a well oiled kitchen machine while GM Chris is on top of his game with assist from Mark and Claudia
Pleasantly surprised! Great food and ambiance.
The food was very rushed. We were eating our appetizers and they brought out the entrees. After we said something they waited until we were ready for the entrees. They gave us a free dessert. Also, it was very noisy.
The service could be a little more welcoming and gracious. We felt pushed to the bar and then rushed by our waiter. Not very polished.
Went for lunch with a friend. The restaurant is always a bit noisy but less so for lunch than dinner (it appears). Our server, Erik, was a delight, and the three dips (Tzakziki, hummus and lentil dip) and the Horatiki salad were plenty for the two of us. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch!
This is the umpteenth time I’ve been back. Please don’t change the menu, or at least keep the favorites! I’ve stopped going to nearby haunts because they’ve dropped some fabulous vegetarian options from their menu.
Great food, attentive service. Never disappoints!
Lunch at Kapnos much quieter than evening din. Had tasty gyros special which comes with salad and companion had cous cous salad. Very pleasant. Service almost too attentive w/ folks whisking plates away as we barely finished.
Great place, not my first time and not my last
They rushed us through our meal
The food was very good, but the noise level is very high.
Excellent food, but a little pricey for what you get, particularly the wine by the glass.
