In the suburbs of Chicago you don’t really have a choice for sit down Indian food which is something people crave. When I heard about Kama Bistro I jumped on it although reviews on Yelp said their was poor service I went anyway. When we got there we were greeted with smiles and polite service as the evening went on we ordered appetizers and they were very good. The. My meal came and strook me like an arrow to the heart, it was that good I got the lamb masalla it was perfect.
I’m conclusion the service was very good unexpectedly and the food was delicious two I hope Kama Bistro is here for many years to come!

Dining room was super cozy on a cold January night. The food was really good; they did a nice job matching our spice tolerance. The service was outstanding.

I met a friend for an early dinner on a cold Saturday late afternoon; we both appreciated the complimentary valet parking and the warm entrance. We were seated immediately, the service was attentive and the food was excellent. By the time we were wrapping up, Kama was bustling with a night crowd, but we were able to enjoy quiet catch-up time before the noise levels increased. I'd recommend the spot to everyone who likes good, mildly spicy Indian food!

We love this place, we have dined in and carried out in the past. The food never disappoints. However, the servers were really awkward this visit. Not sure if they were short staffed, it didn't seem so because we had a bus server, a water server and then our main server. All three together operated awkwardly. Our main server didn't take our drink order and we finally put it in with our food order more than 40 min after arrival. He seemed very stressed and rushed, but spent more time joking around with clients then serving them. It was apparent that he was serving 2 other tables near us that arrived after us and both had their food and/or drinks before our group of 4 adults and 1 kid. The water girl asked if she could take anything from our table, when all we had was water. The bus mixed our leftover bags up by putting 2 families in one bag and then putting our chicken curry and lamb vindaloo in the same take away container mixing up the sauces. Our one guest ordered the $30 seafood platter, she sent nearly a whole platter to the back to be put in a to-go box as we were full but only 3 pieces of fish were in the container with no sauce or rice. The whole night was odd and we were sad our guests experienced this. Best part was the food is always great so I know our guests will return.

In any other circumstance, I would give Kama 5 stars for EVERY rating, I love it so. Unfortunately, our New Year's Eve dinner was not up to their standards. There were several families with crying children and babies -- On New Year's Eve, people -- really ruined the adult vibe of an adult evening out. Service was short staffed, so we didn't feel too special on our special date. Food outstanding as always and handcrafted cocktails were fabulous. This was our third or fourth New Year's dinner there and we were so very disappointed in overall experience. Young families, stay home and bake a pizza for the kids, they'll be so much happier!

The meal we had was superb. The lamb shank nihari was particularly excellent, the tumeric cauliflower and potatoes a perfect complement. I've eaten Indian food in several countries and Kama surpasses them all. The service was also excellent and we enjoyed meeting the chef/owner.

Kama Bistro was recommended by several friends, and I am so glad to have finally visited this wonderful restaurant. The food was creative and delicious, with more subtle spice flavors and less focus on spicy heat than other Indian restaurants, which we very much appreciated. The service was attentive but not intrusive - the perfect amount. The decor is modern and comfortable. We will definitely be back to try more selections!

We have gone to Kama on several occasions and it has yet to disappoint. The food is clearly Indian, but it is not the traditional stuff that one finds at most Indian restaurants. Many of the items are prepared to have a cleaner, more polished look and taste. We ordered only the vegetarian options, many of which are relegated to the "sides" part of the menu. While they were all very good, some items were rather salty, especially the bhindi (okra). The service was excellent, friendly, helpful. Although minor, it would be nice to teach the staff the correct pronunciation of the items. Also, the alcoholic drinks are rather pricey.

We decided to try something new without going downtown. We decided on Indian and took the ride to LaGrange. Well worth the drive. The appetizer ribs were outstanding. The beer selection was extensive. Service was great. Looking forward to going back with friends.

I had been told Kama Bistro was good, but I was still pleasantly surprised at how good. The server made some excellent recommendations, and went back a couple of times to make sure I was safe to eat my choices (gluten issues)

There was a party there, with everyone present having a really good time. It was great for them, but made conversation very difficult due to the acoustics.

I would definitely go again, and recommend to anyone in a heartbeat, but I would seek out an off-peak time so as to enjoy the company as well.

Have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past, have always found it expensive for Indian food. On this visit food was mediocre and service extremely slow, although our waitress was very sweet and apologetic, as we had to wait 45 minutes to even get a drink and place our order.
I don't think that we will be in a hurry to return.
Maybe, they have extended themselves too far........as when they were in their smaller location we always enjoyed it. It was a charming little restaurant.
Maybe we'll give them another try, but, not in the near future.

Kama Bistro is one of the best Indian restaurants in all of Chicagoland. A bit pricey for frequent visits but we definitely make the drive out for special occasions. The dinner menu is very enjoyable. The weekend buffet is less stellar. Our favorite entree is the tandoori lamb. One enjoyable specialty is their mango martinis made with fresh mango pulp. A must have!

Took my boyfriend’s parents here for a special occasion and they were blown away by the food. This was my boyfriend’s first Indian food experience and he loved everything he tried- the lamb chops are out of this world and lemon chicken tadka is one of my favorites. The okra side was different than the Egyptian okra I’ve had before, but still very good. The paneer makhani tikki masala was fantastic, as was the chicken tikka and roganjosh curry that we had with chicken, but I think it would have been ever better with lamb. The mixed chicken grill was a nice, conservative option for my boyfriend (whose first Indian food experience it was). The only things that I wish were different was the noise level - we had to yell over the table to near one another; and also I wish that they would add ras malai to the desert menu (but they do put it on special holiday menus). This is one of my absolute favorite Indian restaurants with a warm, cozy ambience and great drink menu (I would recommend the pineapple martini with cardamom and honey or the spice rack). Definitely will come back and hoping to get to the Diwali celebration :)

Great food selection. Good take on classics like tandoori food. I had Nihari the last time I visited,it is probably the best you can find in Chicago and not many restaurants serve Nihari. I am more used to luckhnow style Nihari with the hint of Kewra / attar flavor, but the one at Kama is still the best in town.
I would love to go when they have seasonal/ occasion based menus .
Overall, I would rate it as the best Indian restaurant in Chicago area!

Love this place it rarely disappoints when it comes to food. Service was very strange my last visit as their was no organization, greeting, or sense of urgency upon walking in. I feel like the cocktail drinks are tinier compared to other places. Overall I’ve had more positive experiences here and I’m always recommended Kama.

We drive from Naperville to this Indian restaurant for great service but it was very disappointing. No server came to our table for good 15-20min. Not sure if the management has changed...as in the past we have had great time and have taken friends there. don’t think it’s worth the drive anymore as we can get decent Indian food close to home. For most Indian places service is sub-par but Kama used to be exception. we were driving all the way for great service & good food but probably not anymore....

While the richness of the food lends itself to an occasional meal, the food is great! We have eaten here numerous times, a few times the food not consistent, sometimes chicken is perfectly juicy and other times dry. That being said, we still go back!

As a first time visitor, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Our server, in great detail, explained the menu and all options. My wife is gluten free and 90+ percent of the menu accommodated her allergy. Having been to India, the food was very authentic and tasty. Service was snappy and as our many courses arrived, used plates were vacated.
The wine list is extensive with many upper end selections available by the glass.
We will certainly return and recommend Kama to our friends!

Visited on a Saturday night. The food seemed very authentic although they were pushing their newest offering - rib eye steaks in three sizes: 10 ounce, 16 ounce, and a massive 32 ounce. Not what I was expecting at an Indian restaurant. We tend to eat vegetarian, so that was a semi-putoff, but the rest of the dishes were great. The server helped with some good recommendations too. Note that the restaurant is very loud. The floor is concrete, the walls are hardboard and the ceiling is open, so nothing absorbs the noise.
