Kama Bistro Ratings and Reviews
My girlfriend and I have been coming here for our anniversary and other special occasions for 7 years now (started going when they were at the old location). The food is always phenomenal! And the cocktails are good too. They have a unique menu that we really enjoy.
We always get the spicy potatoes and chicken Tikka Masala plus something we haven't tried yet. Honestly everything on the menu is great.
Food and service is always fantastic! Creative dishes that are great for sharing with a group. Exclusive beer and wine menu highlights the great food! All the staff are trained well and make the dining experience terrific whether with a large party or small group. One of the top restaurants - including the city of Chicago.
In the suburbs of Chicago you don’t really have a choice for sit down Indian food which is something people crave. When I heard about Kama Bistro I jumped on it although reviews on Yelp said their was poor service I went anyway. When we got there we were greeted with smiles and polite service as the evening went on we ordered appetizers and they were very good. The. My meal came and strook me like an arrow to the heart, it was that good I got the lamb masalla it was perfect.
I’m conclusion the service was very good unexpectedly and the food was delicious two I hope Kama Bistro is here for many years to come!
I met a friend for an early dinner on a cold Saturday late afternoon; we both appreciated the complimentary valet parking and the warm entrance. We were seated immediately, the service was attentive and the food was excellent. By the time we were wrapping up, Kama was bustling with a night crowd, but we were able to enjoy quiet catch-up time before the noise levels increased. I'd recommend the spot to everyone who likes good, mildly spicy Indian food!
We love this place, we have dined in and carried out in the past. The food never disappoints. However, the servers were really awkward this visit. Not sure if they were short staffed, it didn't seem so because we had a bus server, a water server and then our main server. All three together operated awkwardly. Our main server didn't take our drink order and we finally put it in with our food order more than 40 min after arrival. He seemed very stressed and rushed, but spent more time joking around with clients then serving them. It was apparent that he was serving 2 other tables near us that arrived after us and both had their food and/or drinks before our group of 4 adults and 1 kid. The water girl asked if she could take anything from our table, when all we had was water. The bus mixed our leftover bags up by putting 2 families in one bag and then putting our chicken curry and lamb vindaloo in the same take away container mixing up the sauces. Our one guest ordered the $30 seafood platter, she sent nearly a whole platter to the back to be put in a to-go box as we were full but only 3 pieces of fish were in the container with no sauce or rice. The whole night was odd and we were sad our guests experienced this. Best part was the food is always great so I know our guests will return.
In any other circumstance, I would give Kama 5 stars for EVERY rating, I love it so. Unfortunately, our New Year's Eve dinner was not up to their standards. There were several families with crying children and babies -- On New Year's Eve, people -- really ruined the adult vibe of an adult evening out. Service was short staffed, so we didn't feel too special on our special date. Food outstanding as always and handcrafted cocktails were fabulous. This was our third or fourth New Year's dinner there and we were so very disappointed in overall experience. Young families, stay home and bake a pizza for the kids, they'll be so much happier!
The meal we had was superb. The lamb shank nihari was particularly excellent, the tumeric cauliflower and potatoes a perfect complement. I've eaten Indian food in several countries and Kama surpasses them all. The service was also excellent and we enjoyed meeting the chef/owner.
Kama Bistro was recommended by several friends, and I am so glad to have finally visited this wonderful restaurant. The food was creative and delicious, with more subtle spice flavors and less focus on spicy heat than other Indian restaurants, which we very much appreciated. The service was attentive but not intrusive - the perfect amount. The decor is modern and comfortable. We will definitely be back to try more selections!
We have gone to Kama on several occasions and it has yet to disappoint. The food is clearly Indian, but it is not the traditional stuff that one finds at most Indian restaurants. Many of the items are prepared to have a cleaner, more polished look and taste. We ordered only the vegetarian options, many of which are relegated to the "sides" part of the menu. While they were all very good, some items were rather salty, especially the bhindi (okra). The service was excellent, friendly, helpful. Although minor, it would be nice to teach the staff the correct pronunciation of the items. Also, the alcoholic drinks are rather pricey.
We decided to try something new without going downtown. We decided on Indian and took the ride to LaGrange. Well worth the drive. The appetizer ribs were outstanding. The beer selection was extensive. Service was great. Looking forward to going back with friends.
I had been told Kama Bistro was good, but I was still pleasantly surprised at how good. The server made some excellent recommendations, and went back a couple of times to make sure I was safe to eat my choices (gluten issues)
There was a party there, with everyone present having a really good time. It was great for them, but made conversation very difficult due to the acoustics.
I would definitely go again, and recommend to anyone in a heartbeat, but I would seek out an off-peak time so as to enjoy the company as well.
Have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past, have always found it expensive for Indian food. On this visit food was mediocre and service extremely slow, although our waitress was very sweet and apologetic, as we had to wait 45 minutes to even get a drink and place our order.
I don't think that we will be in a hurry to return.
Maybe, they have extended themselves too far........as when they were in their smaller location we always enjoyed it. It was a charming little restaurant.
Maybe we'll give them another try, but, not in the near future.
Kama Bistro is one of the best Indian restaurants in all of Chicagoland. A bit pricey for frequent visits but we definitely make the drive out for special occasions. The dinner menu is very enjoyable. The weekend buffet is less stellar. Our favorite entree is the tandoori lamb. One enjoyable specialty is their mango martinis made with fresh mango pulp. A must have!
Don't visit Kama often , but every time I do - I wonder why I don't come regularly! Food is fabulous - service is wonderful! Tho I am a slow eater and they tend to clear plates too quickly for me. Basically comfort food with a twist and a kick - every meal here has been a treat!
