Delicious fresh, high quality food, beautifully plated and served relatively quickly and efficiently. The server was new and not as familiar with the cuisine as we would have liked but overall a good dining experience. Excellent job with both the Greek and a Italian dishes. The value is good. The live entertainment was fun as they played the music of our youth and band members were our contemporaries (baby boomers).
We dined there to watch a band which they canceled two hours before show time. How rude. The food was so outrageously expensive and really nothing fancy. Our total bill was $42 for one salad, one side of potatoes and a sampling of sauces with pita bread.
The place felt a little unclean, including the windows. Great view though. The waiter made our visit delightful. We noticed the restaurant next store was packed. We thought it was just way overpriced. And didn’t appreciate the last minute cancellation of the band.
Had a fantastic time at Kainos yesterday evening! We had a nice spot right next to the river. Food was amazing - everyone really loved what they had chosen. Of special note was the halloumi appetizer, spanakopita, chicken souvlaki, and gyro salad. The custard dessert "galatoboureko" was to die for! The only less than perfect part of the evening was that the outdoor chairs are very uncomfortable to sit in. Cushions for the seats would solve that problem. But we had a marvelous meal and a very enjoyable outing in spite of that minor issue. We will definitely be back soon!
The atmosphere and experience was wonderful. We enjoyed everything about our meals except that the amount of items in the pasta dish were minimal except for the pasta. The amount of chicken in the dish was very small. Considering the pasta dish was$20+ that didn’t seem right. We will hopefully try the restaurant again since we enjoy dining outside in the summer.
Good food but huge portions. They could benefit from having smaller portions so you could try more things. Most restaurants allow you to choose 1 dip or 3 or 5. Here you can only get the 5 dips. Same with grape leaves. 8 come to an order. The arancini are huge. They should have a 2 portion size. I didn't love that I was limited to what I ordered because portions were large and the prices reflected that too. The dips were okay. Nothing special. The caviar dip was a little too fishy; eggplant was too chunky; Skordalia too runny. But the arancini were fabulous. Sitting outside by the water was nice until the band started and it was not relaxing and way too loud. Not very enjoyable. There is potential here but just not quite there yet.
Bar is closed. There’s a liquor store nearby. That’s the review.
Overpriced and Not good at all.
Hear uptown funk. Great music
We attended Kainos on a very quiet evening with only four other patrons in the entire Restaurant, so consequently we are unable to reliably rate noise level. The service was hospitable and fast (of course with only 4 others at tables)! The food was excellent! However, a Greek Restaurant with no Baklava to serve (even though it was on the menu) was a real disappointment. Especially since there were so few in the place...why would they run out? Overall this was a top notch experience, beautifully decorated ambiance with a wonderful view of the Genesee river, great service with excellent tasting food. We will return in hopes that Baklava will be there next time!
Perhaps the empty place was a result of a temporary loss of their liquor license.
Crystal was fantastic!! She was welcoming and helpful.
We had a party of 5 adults 2 kids at 5:30 for the sake of the kids and later evening diners. Everything we ordered was served hot and without exception was very good. The service let the restaurant down. We had to ask for silverware and she said the hostess is supposed to do that, then we asked twice for plates to share the 3 appetizers, etc. I don’t want to end on the negative because we all enjoyed the food.
The food was overpriced, mediocre and served lukewarm. If you desire Greek food go somewhere else.
Sorry to say we didn’t have a good experience yesterday on Father’s Day, it was actually terrible. The waitress was nice but very inexperienced. We order the flaming cheese and it spattered on my sons arm, he was fine but it was very careless. The sound check for the music started at 4pm, I couldn’t understand why they didn’t arrive early to do this before opening at 4pm for dinner. Once they did start it was so incredibly loud we all stopped trying to talk to each other and we were at the last table closest to Tony D’s! When the food arrived she gave all of us the wrong dishes and they came out at different times. She never asked if we wanted anything else to drink or dessert. We packed up our food and left. We all went (6 of us) to a coffee shop for a few hours to celebrate and for dessert. I didn’t say a word to the waitress or management because it was Father’s Day and I didn’t want to make matters worse. Unfortunately, we won’t be back and we live right upstairs. So disappointing on my husbands special day.
Service was a little slow, there were a lot of people on the patio,so I can understand that. Our waiter was nice but seemed a bit frazzled. Never got refill on our water. My food was not bad but my husband did not like his meal at all. Maybe he just misunderstood the menu.
Easy to make online reservation.
Several wine choices out of stock.
Fried calamari was soupy.
Chicken Souvlaki was skimpy ( 6 pieces ) for $22
Salmon wrapped in grape leaves was good but not impressive.
Wine is $12 per glass.
There was food on floor between table and window.
Excellent riverside view.
Waitress Alexa very friendly.
Krystal at the bar also very nice.
Ambience was good outside with live music. Lamb and chicken kabobs were deliciously seasoned and cooked perfectly. Loved the Greek fries. I mentioned we had a birthday celebration and the band wished another diner happy birthday but nothing for our table. Was disappointed. But overall experience was great
The inside decor looked beautiful. We dined outside and it had great atmosphere with the view of the river and excellent music at a good volumn.
Our server was very sweet with lots of personality.
The food was good. It was probably all worth the price but only for special occasions with my pocketbook.
2nd time here and the food was as good as the last time.
Great evening at Kainos. A bit loud with the live entertainment but overall enjoyable!
Our server and bartender Krystal was fantastic. Had a great time.
We were told that they were understaffed. We didn't care because we were there to listen to music and have good food. We weren't disappointed. Our waiter, Jason, was excellent. Good time had by all.
Wonderful service for my anniversary, the live band was so nice.
Went to have a nice dinner out and relax. Sat inside since there was live music and was quite loud outside. We wanted to be able to have a conversation. Our waiter was new and we know the restaurant was just trying to re-open after Covid. Unfortunately, the service was not the best. 10 minutes before a waiter greeted us at our table. 40minutes to get our glass of wine. We were served water in a plastic cup and it was never refilled. Our dinner came out about 30 minutes after the wine. Needed to ask for my salad as it never came. Then it came without dressing. Ordered dessert. We were told they had baklava cheesecake. This was cheese cake with a walnut topping and some random red sauce placed on top. Also got the cannolis which also came with a red sauce on top. Have never had cannolis or baklava cheese cake with strawberry sauce. We tried to be patient and understood the newness of the waiter and the reopening of the restaurant. In the end, we paid way too much for ok food and poor service. Unfortunately, I do t think we will be going back.
Alexa was noting short of fun and amazing service! The food was great and the ambiance was wonderful. So happy I gave it a second chance :) will definitely be back again! As always Krystal the mixologist was awesome!!!
Beautiful patio, decent food. We were given the wrong bottle of wine and our server argued with me that it was actually the correct one. It was a very warm (it came from the hot kitchen) bottle of rose, not the sparkling rose; an obvious difference. Our server also complained and rolled her eyes when we ordered the “stupid” grilled cheese appetizer. (It’s flambéed with brandy and spits oil from the hot pan.) We laughed it off, but I was not exactly impressed.
Food was excellent!! Chef was on his game. I would eat here again, really loved the spot. The service from start to finish left a lot to be desired. Not gonna bash individuals but if I was the owner in such a beautiful location with such great food, I would be REALLY focused on putting talent in my front of house and wait staff. That change could take this place to one of rochesters best restaurants. Food is already there. Staff atmosphere not so much
Disappointed in too much hot pepper on shrimp scampi. Maybe should have read description more closely. Did not expect a traditional dish to be so spicy hot.
Good but not great, food and service not worth the price, too noisy with a poor quality 2 man band
Food was delicious but calamari very salty. Service not too hot.
I really hope that the food and service at this lovely location can improve. Service was not at all professional or hospitable. Dinner entrees were extremely disappointing. Appetizers were fine. $200 for wine + dinner (and tip) for three was way too much for the experience we had!
Nice atmosphere, friendly service and decent food. I feel like we’ve had better food there in past. Pastitsio and dolmades were very good, Chicken Aphrodite had little chicken and chicken souvlaki had only one skewer with 4-5 chicken pieces. Was charged $15 for simple plate of hummus and pita - not sure if that was mistake but def seemed expensive. Wife asked for a Merlot and was given a $14 glass of some brand listed on receipt . Not sure if there was a house Merlot option but we weren’t asked.
Due to Covid and staffing shortages, the staffing was horrible and they did their best. Food was decent, but not as good as I expected. I had lobster ravioli with very little lobster and way too strong sauce with crawfish on top. The baklava had way too much cinnamon. Wine was great and view you can’t beat! We will give another try.
Krystal our bartender/ server was what made this experience those best. She acknowledged the issues with seating and service due to Covid restrictions and people taking forever to leave. Had it not been for Krystal It would have been unlikely that I would have returned to this restaurant. Because of Krystal I am willing to give it a second shot. Will let you all know how it goes!!
We dined on Mother’s Day. There was nothing advertised about a special menu on the website. If we had seen the menu ahead of time, and what would be served /charged, we would not have come. The entrees were very disappointing (meat on a plate, basically, with no sides) and the overall small amount of food served for $60 per person was absurd. 2 pieces of shrimp, a cup of soup, 6 more pieces of shrimp, and a cup of dessert did not justify that price tag. Very disappointed.
While I understand having a limited menu on a holiday, this really should be advertised on the website or when taking the reservation. Also, the limited menu felt disappointing for the $60 per person cost. We had a server who had only been working in the restaurant 3 days and was by herself. She was very nice, but obviously not ready. She did not know there was a drink menu. she went around the table 4 times, taking everyone's order for 1 course at a time. To make it worse, the food came ridiculously fast. So fast that the soup came after the entree. Then the final cherry on top was when we were brought a dessert that was not even on the limited menu, even though you could only order from the limited menu. They did fix this right away however.
Went for Mother’s Day brunch, half the courses were tasty, half were inedible. Had to send some salmon back for being raw in the middle and the replacement that was brought out tasted spoiled. Service was difficult as it was hard to get ahold of our server, and all the food was delivered to our table at once (not in courses as it was displayed on the menu). There was not enough space on the table so we had to manually combine plates to fit everything.
I am sure a lot of the problems we experienced were due to this being a high volume day with a different than typical menu, but based on our experience I would probably not return.
It was alittle loud due to a great band playing. Service was alittle slow due to the restaurant being understaffed. The food was amazing!!! The owner interacted with us and made us feel like home. I will definitely be back
We have eaten at Kainos before and will do so again. This time though 2 of the five meals disappointed; the bisque was glutinous, the artichokes french were dry, the moussaka lacked flavor, except for the marinara sauce which was too acidic.
Lamb shank, pork skewers, and shrimp were delicious.
Always great food, and we love the view of the river and the Rochester skyline. Service is excellent and friendly. Chef Jeff is just wonderful to know. The menu is diverse and we like to try different items. The desserts are amazing also. One of our favorite "go-to" restaurants.

It was a great dinner with live music. We will definitely be back!
