Kabuki Japanese Restaurant - Old Pasadena
When you walk into a Kabuki Japanese Restaurant, you won’t be overwhelmed with Asian decor and soft slow music. What you will encounter is a fun, casual atmosphere with our friendly staff welcoming you through the doors.
Our food and beverages are passionately crafted by our R&D team who are dedicated to providing you the best in Japanese cuisine as well as spreading the culture of Japanese dining to our guests. The tireless efforts of Executive Corporate Chef Masa Kurihara are aimed to attain total satisfaction from you. They will be heart-broken if you feel otherwise. We look forward to serving you.
I am gluten free, and it didn’t seem the staff was very knowledgeable. They do have a gluten-free menu, but barely anything is on it. My husband and mom liked their meals okay. Husband got sushi. I ordered chicken and brown rice. The chicken was not edible. I ate two bites. The rice was clumpy (not sticky- clumpy) when the server took away my barely-touched meal, she didn’t even ask if everything was okay... won’t be going here again.
Dog friendly the best happy hour in Pasadena very fresh fish
We left after 20 min because no one served us. The waiter told us he would be right there after 5 min. 15 min later he told us that he had to go do something but would take our drink order. He never came back and we left. The restaurant was pretty empty but they sat us in the back. Horrible experience. Will never come back.
Our server, Michael, rocked. He was so friendly, attentive, helpful, and flawless. We had a great time and really enjoyed the food, beer, cold & warm sake, and the ambiance. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the bathroom being weirdly, eerily underground (downstairs). It feels like it's about to turn into an "IT" (Stephen King) scene. I was looking for a red balloon. Anyway, also very reasonable pricing. Thank you.
Best Happy Hour in Pasadena and the patio is dog friendly.
Excellent place to eat and relax, great mothers day meal
Best happy hour in Pasadena
The Chardonnay is great and so is the sushi
Service was poor. Quality of food ok not as a year ago . Lost the love for what it used to be my favorite place
I came in for late happy hour. Ordered 3 Philly Rolls w/ Masago and Avocado. Got neither. Waited 10 minutes for Soy Sauce. I would rather eat at Foothill, skip the "special" and get what I ordered.
Moving forward, that will be a better option for me. Too bad its not offered late at all Kabuki's. Oh well
The sashimi plate was really good, the fish was really fresh. We've loved it. But the sushis (rolls) was fair.
We passed by the restaurant and noticed that it looked closed, which was unusual since we had reservations. There were employees inside but chairs turned upside down. As we looked for parking I called to ask them what time they closed. They told me that they closed early due to being short staffed. They closed at 9pm. We had reservations at 9:30pm. They typically close at 10:30pm, they said. No one contacted me to notify me of this -- unacceptable. We do not live in the area and were celebrating a special occasion. Strange that they closed early and stranger that they didn't contact me (and anyone else who might have had reservations) to let us know.
This is a great location and the service was amazing. Food came out in a timely manner, and it was all delicious. It wasnt busy and the atmosphere felt private almost.
I love this restaurant and most of the waiters have been amazing .... but sadly today was horrible, the waiter took our order looking away, slamming the sauces we had asked for and he NEVER came back to check on us!
Great front patio area for outdoor dining w dog. Appropriately radiant heaters facing downward--just enough to provide heat without burning your hair.
I had the soy ramen w grilled pork and boiled egg. Flavor was very good. I would probably not use the black pepper since it tends to settle at the bottom of the Bowl after slurping down the noodles. The pork was a bit too lean for my tastes--for ramen, I personally prefer the less healthy, more fatty pork belly, but that's just a personal thing. The service is actually very noteworthy. Extremely attentive hostess, waitress. Even though we were the only people outside, we never felt neglected. Okay, they were extremely courteous--a real plus!
I have to give thumbs up to kabuki. Family enjoy everything, amazed with the service, the ambiance and of course the food (Sushiiii !!!!).
Will be back, sooner than later.
It was a bit cold, but the food was ok, the service was friendly, and I would definitely go there again, but with a warner sweater
Service was decent but the food was just how I like it ;)
I went with a group of friends for my birthday. They were very friendly, as soon as I said I had a reservation they wished me a happy birthday. The food was AMAZING! I will definitely go back.
Just arrived in town on business, hit Open Table, found Kabuki, walked right in and it was perfect! Waiter Amando was superb, took great care of us, and we walked away very satisfied. Couldn't ask for anything more. Another reason to use Open Table!
The Alaskan ROLL n triple A box always very yummy. Tried the sangria for the first time n definitely going back for it again
Although Kabuki Japanese Restaurants are one of my favorite places to dine for Japanese food, the Old Town Pasadena location is lacking in food quality. If this location was my first experience with Kabuki Restaurants, I probably wouldn't bother trying other locations. I had ordered the Garlic Beef Yaki. The sliced garlic is usually cut thin and is cooked just enough to be brown and crispy but, not burnt. I asked for the beef to be cooked medium rare but, I was served medium well cooked meat and it was just thrown on the plate like a pile of beef. The presentation was very unappetizing. The Miso Marinated Cod was a watery marinade which made the fish taste bland. The only thing good about this restaurant are the servers, who were very pleasant, efficient and apologizing. The Hastings Ranch in East Pasadena location is how all Kabuki Japanese Restaurants should be.
Had dinner at their Pasadena Old town location, to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was a tuesday and parking was easy, behind the building. Hosts were warm, greeting you, getting in. We even had our choice of seating. Ambience was wonderful, cozy, nice and quiet, modern interior. Food selection was great with colored pictured menu, helpful. Waiter was knowledgeable as well as helpful, food was wonderful, very presentable, tasty modest portions, as shown on the menu, excellent. Thumbs up !!! I'll bring back my family again, soon.
We had the sangria which is the best in town. Food was excellent.
All was great, just would have been nice if waitress was a little more personable. A occasional smile would have been nice and her tip would have been much nicer. Enjoyed the food and my company.
First I would like to thank you for the invitation of Saki tasting.
It was a great experience, reasonable fee, delicious rolls, happy faces serving the customers.
Hope to get a chance for doing it again.
I also would like it if u can have more seatings so I can bring in people ( my friends)
Excellent food for the price. Although the menu has changed, the food is still good and maintained as before.
With a sushi list as delicious as it is creative, this if definitely a short to go to.
Mmm. Sushi. Beer. Hot date. Pasadena. All good things!
I'm not a pro about sushi but I like kabuki a lot. Lots of choices but 2 sushi rolls didn't fill me up. I had to order a 3rd.
Great food, great service, what more could you ask for?
I go there normally for business dinners, with co-workers to discuss projects it is a great atmosphere .
It was my wife and I 19th wedding anniversary and so I met my wife there, and we sat there for 10 to 15 min before I went up to the hostess and showed her a posting from Yelp. It said good food but the staff stands around talking to one another. I informed her she had better send a waiter over to our table or we were gone. A young man came over and at the time we didn't know he (David) was the manger, so we explained to him about the Yelp post and come to find out he had taken my e-mail reservation and he had felt bad to hear about our service, after that the food was coming out. But why should I have had to say anything at all about the service?
Food was good, actually really good. The setting is great right in Old Town. But honestly they need to get their service in line. The waitress served us two sake drinks with our appetizers and then asked for my I.D. when I ordered a Long Island Iced T?! Since I had left it in the car, she wouldn't serve me the second drink. Since we apparently had more than one server, I asked the other server that came to the table and he got it. They need to structure their staff better (or in the first place). And from what I've seen online this isn't the first time a service issue has popped up for this establishment...honestly would never come back because of that.
not much variety of sushi selections available for happy hour.. but i enjoy hang out with friends there
they lost the on line reservation!
My first time there was great, except for my date. I will be back for sure next time with a different date.
Very nice location for a group of friends or just a place for you and your girl/boyfriend.
Disappointing. Not good, true Japanese food.
It's a great place to go to load up on sashimi and other clean raw fish, salad etc at superb prices, super fast, friendly, efficient and attractive, smiling team working there.
Waiter brought incorrect dinner order to table. Waiter went on break around 7:30 pm without introducing our table to a stand-by waiter. Waiter left sushi order sitting at preparation station in excess of 20- minutes. We had to request our order by throwing our hands in the air. Too little help on the floor. Nothing was good here. I was embarrassed to have tried to introduce my friends to such a poor example of a quality restaurant.
