About
I haven't had Sushi in California for almost 10 years... Since I live in Boca Raton, and was visiting Culver City, I decided to look on open table and see which restaurant looked interesting and inviting.
I really didn't get lucky since this restaurant had some great reviews. It was every bit as good as I anticipated. There were exceptional appetizers that really were so great. I particularly loved the filet mignon appetizer. All the sushi was amazing with the freshest seaweed paper I have ever had. Yum. It really was a great dinner. Next time back in Culver City, I would be sure to return.
K-Zo is a superb place to eat--the japanese american fusion specialties are great. Moreover, the ambience is conducive to conversation and a classy experience.
K-Zo is imo one of LA's finest sushi options. I am always happy to have an opportunity to dine there and tell people about it frequently
We had a birthday dinner here. The venue is nice to look at and the service was good and friendly. The waitress was knowledgeable and helped with our Sake questions.
For the price, the sushi is not up to par. The toro was the biggest disappointment as it came off fishy. When paying $10 a piece, you expect better from this cut. The venue ended up taking it off our bill after we could not even finish it. The rest of the sushi and rolls were mediocre. Not worth the price.
That said, i have friends who swear by this place. Perhaps we went on an off night.
Excellent sushi. Amazing menu with salads and hot entrees as well. You can never go wrong visiting K-ZO!
We tried it, since they had great reviews. The food is good, it is extremely busy and it is also very noisy. It is good to go there once in a while, but I do have more favorable Japanese restaurants to go to.
Very unassuming from the outside. I've passed this place many a times but never went in. The quality of fish is superb. Lots of great choices. Wine and beer only though.
The food was horrible. They served us old smelly fish that we sent back. The lotus root chips was stale and seemed days old. I heard the hostess tell our waitress to hurry up our meal because they needed our table after we were only seated for 20 minutes. The tables are so close together and over packed that the wait staff is constantly carrying food over our heads. This place is a disgrace!!!
Great sushi! Fresh, fresh, fresh. Great service. Sushi was tasty, not overly "sauced" as with many other places.
K-Zo is always fresh and the service is always amazing!!
Frankly got a lot of recommendations for this place but was not that good. Compared to other places it's really lacking in Los Angeles
Food offered some innovative treatments of Japanese take non-Asian dish (Tuna capaccio), wonder flavors! 6-taste appetiser was really a great treat. Risotto was okay, but I wanted a bit stronger flavor.
Steak was great.
Sake pricing was very welcoming.
This is a regular place for us but it wasnt up to par this last time. The service was not very attentive and slow. Portion sizes were smaller than normal. We ordered a cooked yellowtail which was inedible, very fishy, poorly seasoned and poorly cooked. The spicy calamri we normally get was rubbery. while the sushi was fine and as good as usual everything else was subpar. Maybe they were just having a bad night but it was disappointing.
Good delicious presentation beautiful. It was my friend's birthday which I had informed them when
Had lunch with sister and my husband here. We tried the DineLA menu, all the food we picked were delicious. Our server was very nice and friendly. It was a little crowded but it was lunch time in a very good restaurant. Overall would eat here again.
Simple, elegant sushi in a simple, elegant space. Great sake list.
Our waiter was awesome. They were very accommodating. The food was great too
We were very happily surprised by our visit . We'd been here years before for non-memorable meal, but tried it again after reading reviews. The place was now upscale, the service was friendly, even delightful, and the food was excellent. We will be bringing friends back here.
as usual, we had an enjoyable dinner, supported by courteous service. what more can a person expect these days than these 2 prime ingredients to a successful dinner out.
K-Zo has a large menu of absolutely delicious items. We had an array of sushi, cold plates and warm plates - everything was prepared to perfection. The fish was very fresh. They have an extensive sake and wine/beer menu. The sake sampler is a great alternative. Easy parking in adjacent multi-level lot.
This place is excellent. It has excellent very very fresh food. Great happy hour and happy hour prices. great dinner menu to choose from as well as a sushi bar. The bartender Mingo is excellent. A very interactive happy person to sit down and enjoy your lunch or dinner with.
Great food and great service - as always! Our favorite sushi place in Culver City.
Love K-Zo! It's our favorite sushi in LA. Incredibly fresh and buttery fish.
It's better then average but nothing outstanding if you're a true sushi fan. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood but I wouldn't make a special trip there, considering that in LA there are so many fantastic sushi places albeit you will pay more. The value here is pretty good.
I have been to this location twice and sadly this will be my last time. The food on both occasions was okay. This time we tried the most expensive tasting menu and the quality was not that much different than a regular Japanese restaurant. The sea bass was good, but the sushi quality was mediocre.
What really made the experience poor this time was the fact that they rushed you. We had gone to celebrate a birthday and spent over 300 dollars for the three of us and to be told that we had to leave as they had people waiting is APPALLING service. I can understand if we were there for hours but we were there for an hour and forty-five minutes. We were going to order a final round of drinks, but they closed out the check and said we had to leave. It was very embarrassing and a horrible way to end a positive celebration. I expect more from a Japanese restaurant as the Japanese culture is all about service and that was NOT evident today.
We ended up going to the Culver Hotel after which had a nice ambience and service.
DO NOT go here for a special occasion.....sadly this experience receives two stars....
Sushi was phenomenal. Things to not miss: oysters, tuna carpaccio, live scallop, salmon burrata, black throat sushi
My husband and I love sushi and are very picky about where we eat sushi. This was our first time going to K-Zo, so we did not know what to expect. The reviews we read were 4 stars and up, so we decided we would give it a try. We arrived at our reserved time and was going to be seated at a table. We requested if we could sit at the sushi bar. They were very accommodating and we were able to sit at the Sushi Bar which I like because we like to interact with the chef and those around us at the bar. We had some sashimi that was excellent. The cuts of fish were generous and exceptionally fresh they melted in your mouth. The flavors and the presentation of the fish were very well presented. It was all yummy....We will definitely go back!
K-Zo is in the running for best sushi/Japanese restaurant in LA. The fish is always super fresh. The menu covers a wide range from traditional to innovative dishes. They easily accommodates both those looking for a safe experience, and the adventurous who seek unusual fishes & dishes (try the jellyfish and their signature Angelino). They have an excellent sake menu. The staff is friendly but unintrusive, knowledgeable and helpful.
K-Zo is the best sushi restaurant in LA. The quality of the sushi is unbeaten. Keizo is a master craftsmen when it comes to designing beautiful sashimi, sushi and even cooked dishes. The flavor is delicious and the presentation is beautiful. Plus, the team is very service oriented. If you haven't tried K-Zo, then you haven't tried the best sushi in town! :)
I can't say enough about this fine sushi establishment so I'll keep it minimalistic: "Outstanding!"
This is only my the 3rd or 4th review ever. To be honest, I'm hesitant to say too many good things about this place bc I don't want it to get too popular and then I can't even get a seat. But.....What an amazing little find! Food AND service was outstanding and that means a lot coming from a NYC'er. We ordered several dishes, some from HH and some from the regular menu. Both were EXCELLENT and came quickly.
Thanks so much K-ZO! Great experience! I'm a happy girl and that's not an easy task.
I'm thinking a great place for a party but hurry before I take it over! Lol
The food was excellent. In particular the octopus carpaccio appetizer was very unusual.
The food was absolutely amazing!
However, I was extremely disappointed with how we were treated by our server. We did not want to spend $30-$190 on a bottle of sake so we decided to take the cheaper route of a sake they sold in a can ($11). The server instantly tried to upsell us on a $35 300ml bottle of sake and wouldn't even acknowledge that we wanted the cheaper option. Finally when he realized we were not going to choose anything else he told us how terrible this choice was but begrudgingly brought it anyways. Once he brought it to the table he made sure to show all of the sushi chefs what we had chosen and they all laughed. After that he prefaced the sake with excuses like "it will taste different" and "the fermentation makes it taste off". We drank the sake and it was DELICIOUS! I am not a sake connoisseur by any means, but the sake we chose was a decent cheap sake. Which is exactly what we wanted.
I am disappointed that we were shamed for ordering what we wanted. If K-Zo only wants people to order the most premium of sake then only have premium sake on your menu.
Additionally our server left in the middle of our dining experience without a word, so that was odd and disappointing as well.
Overall, great sushi, but horrible treatment. We will not be back.
Interesting menu. Everything was pretty good. Found a few items that we ordered to be vastly over priced, yet the experience was good overall. Good food.
K-ZO has exceptional quality sushi, and was a great little hidden spot for a date.
Food was good. But Service was beyond terrible. 0 stars.
The waitress was rude and judgmental through the entire meal. We had to order several items twice because she would forget the order all the time. Took 35 mins to get a glass of wine. The bouillabaisse was good until we realized someone hair was part of it. They barely apologized and continued the rude service.
We don't have any complaints about the food, just the terrible service which is why we would never go back.
The service was great and the food even better! We went for a bday celebration and ordered the bento box , delicious!
This restaurant is always consistent. We have never been disappointed. It has the freshest most delicious seafood anyone can ask for. A real gem.
Overall a three star experience.
Delicious food, good service, reasonable prices for the quality of food prepared. Very noisy at 7pm on a Friday [families and screaming babies]. Perhaps a later dinner time or mid-day for lunch or brunch would be a little less noisy. Don't mind some noise, but it's nice to be able to carry on a conversation with the people you're dining with.
