What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
Lovely place. I celebrated my birthday here. The food was delicious! The service was outstanding!
Johnny was awesome. Food was great. Thanks for the hospitality!!
Juniper has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The staff is incredible and truly takes care of the guest and makes them feel special and unique. I highly recommend sitting at the chefs counter, from the bar service to the culinary staff, everyone is friendly and interactive. And the food is SO GOOD. The menu changes pretty frequently, so there’s always something new and delicious to try. The cacio e pepe pasta is a must have, one of the best I’ve had! And be sure to save room for dessert, the sorbets are wonderful and always creative!
Diner Tip: Monday nights feature an all night happy hour type deal with great app and pasta specials that differ from the main menu and half off bottles of wine (which me and my boyfriend love to take advantage of the good deals).
I honestly can’t say enough about how much I enjoy dining here, it’s truly a special place!
Fabulous food service and ambience
Pasta starters and drinks were fabulous. Service staff offered great suggestions. The setting is lovely ..cool and calming. Altogether a delightful experience..we will return!!
Great experience! We sat at the bar which means we also got a chance to talk with the people in the kitchen making the food - always a nice extra! Everything we had was delicious, but the two standouts were the burrata - so fresh and light - and the cacio y pepe pasta. Both make my mouth water just thinking about them!
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The staff is always welcoming, the food is unique and delicious and the ambiance just screams date night. I highly recommend it.
Overall a nice experience. We did the chef tasting menu, it was very good. The wine pairing was also excellent. Our only gripe was that we had to wait almost 40 minutes to sit down despite having a reservation, that showed poor planning on their part.
The food is good and creative. Maybe a little too creative on some dishes. I’ll go back.
Fantastic service, beautiful presentation, delicious food. Reserve a seat at the left side of the bar to watch how carefully they garnish each plate. Order anything, because it's all delicious. When I bring guests, I tell them we need to order dessert because each one is an adventure.
Most importantly to me, the staff has always been phenomenally helpful with my partner's allergies. She has a long list of foods she can't eat, most of which are easy to identify but some of which we need to ask about. These limit our restaurant choices, and her options at most of the places we go - but not Juniper! She can always find options that she can eat, plus they can often accommodate other choices with minor modifications. The menu changes frequently so I never get bored, but never so drastically that she shows up to find there's nothing she can eat.
Only once out of who knows how many visits, the staff was wrong when we asked about an ingredient, and the way they handled it spoke volumes! The waiter knew the ingredient wasn't in the planned recipe and went back and chased down what had happened. He explained what had happened, why it was a deviation from their policies, and how that experience would inform changes to their workflow going forward to make sure it wouldn't ever happen again. He took it very seriously and we have not had an issue since - this was maybe a year and a half ago. It seems counterintuitive to say they're great with allergies and then describe a mistake, but the way they handled it is part of why I trust them! Mistakes are inevitable, and I've found that most restaurants just don't care this much. In contrast, Juniper has been this attentive in every interaction.
The food was great, very relax ambiance, it doesn’t have parking, but the is a valley parking at the restaurant
Pastas were DELICIOUS. Cadillac Negroni was one of the best I’ve had. Will return very soon.
Juniper was overall underwhelming. The space is fun and really enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the food, but the music was turned up too loud (trying to drown out typical restaurant noises??). Our appetizers were hit and miss. Loved the beet salad with faro, thought the shrimp were over-seasoned, really liked the puffed potatoes as well. Main entrees were hit and miss as well. I had carbonara for my main and it totally missed the mark. The pasta was cooked al dente and that is the nicest thing I can say about it. Flavor was like something you might find from a frozen dinner entree. Needless to say, very disappointed. Someone else in my party had the gnocchi and raved about how good it was. The dessert, however, was universally panned. We had the custard and pastry which turned out to be a stale donut with runny sauce? on top. Long story short, not a good value and we won't be back.
The special Mother's Day brunch was excellent! At $45/head, it was pricey, but the food was all delicious and we left very full. Not a single person at the table chose something they were disappointed with, and I definitely feel like we got our money's worth given the quality and detail of each dish. Service was attentive but discreet. We'll definitely be back to try dinner soon.
One of my favorite restaurants, now! Excellent food. The red snapper was the best fish I've ever had.
We had an incredible meal start to finish. From the moment we stepped in to the moment we left, it was wonderful.
The selection of Chardonnay Wines by the glass needs to be expanded
Food was not great. Pasta was just okay. Burrata was terrible, and nothing like burrata at all. Puffy potatoes were excellent. Service was okay. Atmosphere was nice and a very pretty interior. We won't return.
The food is fantastic, the service great. Beautiful place with an open kitchen. Be careful with plate sizes. Some are for a single person, some are for a couple. But everything was delicious, we ate more than what we should have.
This is our favorite restaurant right now. We’ve been multiple times. The service has been fantastic. The ambiance is upscale enough to dress up and comfortable enough for casual. The food has been top notch, as well. It isn’t a huge menu, but everything we’ve had on it has been prepared perfectly and the flavors are amazing.
Birthday dinner was great, so tasty
I had such a great meal last week at Juniper, I treated my friend to a birthday dinner this week! We had the burrata, chicken and cacio Pepe. All were so flavorful and cooked to perfection. My friend said the pasta was the best she’s ever had.
To top it off, they gave her a gift box of little goodies and again, she was thrilled! Juniper is becoming one of my favorites!
An upscale Italian restaurant on the east side. Juniper's prices are steep, especially the wine list---which would give me pause about eating there very often. But for this special occasion, it was a superb meal.
We had an incredible dinner experience at Juniper for my mom's birthday. The whole team went above and beyond throughout the meal to make our celebration special, and my mom said Juniper is now her favorite restaurant in Austin! Thank you to everyone at Juniper for making it a wonderful night for my family!
Johnny was fantastic and truly made the experience and food that much better!
I attended with a group and we ordered everything on the menu. The food is spectacular, the waitstaff friendly and informed and the decor attractive. The Cacio e Pepe is particularly incomparable.
Might be my new favorite restaurant in Austin. The food was great, the staff was very friendly, and it had a upscale modern, yet small town feel to it. I really enjoyed it.
I brought a friend who wasn’t familiar with east Austin and Juniper blew her away! We had the burrata, which is the best we had ever had- infused with green garlic. Cacio Pepe with truffles was so yummy and the perfect partner for their fabulous roast chicken. The BEST thing we had, though were the Brussels sprouts ! So many chefs are making them sweet, but these were savory in a mushroomy sauce and sooooo good! A great bottle of wine and we were in heaven.
Extremely overpriced for the meal we had. Would recommend another steakhouse in Austin for a delicious meal. Server should be more upfront about the portion sizes.
We really enjoyed sitting outside and the service was fantastic, but the food disappointed - especially for the price.
The service, food and setting were excellent. Johnny provided great suggestions from the menu with wine pairings and treated us as if we were his only table that night. The pasta in the Cacio e Pepe was perfectly al dente and the redfish was delicious. We enjoyed the evening and will definitely be back.
Great first time
Especially service and dessert
Off the hook. Amazing flavor combination. Herbs from the garden. Great cocktails, an authentic Italian menu
The restaurant is beautiful, the drinks were great, and the food was delicious!
Wonderful and delicious food, prepared and served with obvious care. Everything we ordered was perfectly delicious. The space itself is warm and intimate. Highly recommend the cocktail called This Must Be The Place, the potato puffs appetizer, and the panna cotta for dessert. Highly recommended for a date night dinner in Austin!
We spent our anniversary at Juniper and it couldn’t have been better! The staff all welcomed us and congratulated us on our special day! The service and food were amazing! Highly recommended for any occasion!
We went specifically for Amore Mondays that features some dishes, appetizers, and drinks at happy hour prices. I love that they modeled Amore Mondays for service industry; our entire party was service industry!
We ordered the Puffy Potatoes. They looked liked tater tots and were crunchy with a creamy, cheesy filling. My husband and I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and the bolognese. The Cacio e Pepe was AMAZING, possibly the best pasta I've had in Austin. I still think about that dish. The bolognese was great as well.
I loved the shift drinks; we had the "Zac" which was a pint of Revolver Blood it was super smooth. For $8 this was a great deal.
We sat on the patio and received excellent service throughout our meal. Complimentary valet is available, but we used the parking lot. I will visit again!
My friend and I were staying by Rainey Street, and thought we'd dine there, but it was too obnoxious that evening. We found out about Juniper and went to check it out. The ambiance was perfect--exactly what we wanted. It was comfortable, beautiful, elegant, cool -- doing great business at dinnertime, yet quiet enough to talk.
Johnny, our waiter, was the absolute best--the ultimate professional. In spite of not having been at this particular establishment for very long, he had an amazing knowledge of the menu and the cocktails and wines (exquisite). We really felt like he cared about us and our dinner choices :) , so he's a pro.
Regarding the food, the appetizers were superb, the entrees were good but super-duper salty and I am a salt freak. I know I could have sent back but we were having such a nice time, and as I said, I love salt. Save the saltiness, the pasta was really, really good (Garganelli, I think). The Ribeye was good but not what I really expected for when I splurge on ribeye. I get that's it's super high-grade beef from a wonderful local farm, which I do appreciate, but it was more like two pieces of filet mignon--off the bone and super lean--which is good sometimes but not when you think you're about to enjoy a ribeye.
I had an awesome wine that I took a photo of because I loved it so much--Johnny was amazing at wine recommendations and letting us taste a couple of wines first, and he has sommelier level knowledge.
Juniper is a great name, too. I will visit each time I come!
The restaurant was beautiful and the service was excellent. The complimentary valet and package of caramel corn were a nice touch. Would recommend and plan on going again soon!
