What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
Incredible food, awesome waitress, solid wine selection with knowledgeable staff. Really great overall experience. Only issue was we were outside and traffic noise at the start of dinner was a little distracting. However, that was my gault for making reservations on valentines too late. Credit to Junipers for finding room for us.
We will absolutely go back again and again....even if we have to sit outside!!!!
All I can really say is ehhhh....
Food was okay, and I appreciate them pacing the dinner, but just ended up taking forever.
What a great experience! We came for our anniversary and were welcomed with a “happy anniversary” and a specially printed menu. The staff made accommodations due to an issue with the outside seating. Our waiter, Austin, was friendly and helpful with suggestions. The staff were all attentive and friendly. Most of all - the food was so good. Everything that came out was delicious. Will definitely return soon.
My wife and I have celebrated a birthday and an anniversary at Juniper. Each time they manage to surprise us with excellent suggestions and experienced hospitality. Their food was exquisite to say the least.
Terrible service. Waiter was very rude, I mentioned to my party that the pasta was really good and he answered back that he hasn’t gotten to that yet and he’s responsible for recommendations. Then I asked if the chicken liver is good and he answered back again with attitude that the restaurant wouldn’t put something that wasn’t good on the menu. Terrible experience
The atmosphere was lovely and well done. The waiter was nice but was aware that We didn’t like our meal and he didn’t say anything. The appetizers were delicious but the main meals were undercooked and not even warm. They brought out an apology desert of frozen yogurt that was very salty
Service was excellent. Excellent wines with ability to taste first. Food was high quality. Portions were a bit on the small side for the price but enough and delicious. Would recommend and will absolutely go back!
My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Juniper and just had a spectacular evening. The food, service, and ambiance were all exemplary and we definitely plan on coming back.
The wait even with a reservation was about 15 mins which is to be expected in Austin on fridays and yet they gave us free drinks and an appetizer to compensate. Very pleased with the service I received here and absolutely amazed by the food! This is a spot to make memories.
Really nice space and great service!!!! Felt so well taken care of. Pretty loud and sadly, felt food was just so-so. Was hoping even better.
Great food! Great service!😊
Really good food, good size portions and excellent service. Great cocktails also!
There 4 of us, 2 loved their dishes, 2 did not. The risotto was under cooked and bland. The pepper and cheese past and parpadelle were excellent. Our server was fantastic and knowledgeable. I like the vibe and it has parking close by. Decent wine list and we had a few great cocktails.
My wife’s birthday was amazing experience. All staff went above and beyond and even gave her a little departing gift. We will return again for sure.
Lovely meal - only negatives were that they surprised us by putting us outside (actually not bad with space heaters, but food cooled off pretty fast), crudo had great fish but overly salted, and wife’s paparedelle (sp?) was a little too al dente for my tastes. Definitely a nice meal, and I will for sure go back again.
My wife and I have eaten here probably a dozen times and loved it. Our last trip was an exception. The menu did not jibe with the website (yes, I understand the menu is constantly changing but it's 2109. Updating a website isn't rocket science and it's an obligation in this day and age). The menu we did end up with seemed totally uninspired. Put simply, nothing really measured up to what we'd had in the past in both quality of preparation and flavor. To add to this, I'm always annoyed when you get a 3 page drink menu and there are only 2 beers available, bottles only. Beer drinkers are people too. There are as many of us there are wine drinkers so what gives? It sounds crazy but I'm convinced that the person who chose the 2 beers hates beer. Noone in their right mind would pay $7 for a Peroni (I mean, c'mon, it's Italian Coors) and the craft beer was disgusting. It tasted like beer flavored water; exactly the way people who hate IPAs want an IPA to taste like. We'll go back for another try but a second experience like this will end Juniper's position at the top of our list. I would add that although incredibly verbose, the service was excellent.
Perfect first date place, my girl really likes it, recommend it for sure.
The look is nice but the food was underwhelming and expensive. Likely won’t return
Server second guessed almost every single food and beverage choice. Ruined the whole dining out experience and was rather embarrassing in front of my date. Being helpful is one thing but then arguing about what selections wwould be more appropriate is simply crossing the line. On top of that he then proceeded to argue when I asked him to decant the wine.
The risotto was bland at best and lacked depth. The food was overpriced for the quality and creativity it possessed. The best item we had was the side of broccoli, which the server tried to disuade us from choosing as well.
Great Tasting Menu. Fun experience sampling a wide variety of food.
I loved this place! The food was not only delicious, but beautifully crafted. I sat at the counter and got to watch the chefs work their magic as they prepared the various dishes. Amazing the amount of energy and care they put into each one.
The staff was incredibly friendly and fun.
The ambience was perfect. The gnocchi was so palate-pleasing that we ordered another serving. It is by far the best I’ve had. My only complaint is that the server, Austin, was pretentious and a bit belittling. We had a few questions about the menu and he made us feel small because of it. I don’t think he likes his job very much. It was off-putting enough that when asked, we tell friends that the food is tantalizing to say the least but the service is lacking. We will not be bringing clients here in case this is the norm.
Juniper has outstanding food! Fresh and original preparations of Italian fare (seafood and pasta). We went to celebrate our anniversary and everyone made this occasion extra special!
$75 per person, sharing an app, entree, dessert with 2 alcoholic beverages - another "nice" Austin restaurant but nothing singularly stands out, no dish which made me say wow.
Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience. Arrived at 9:10 for a 9:15 reservation. Were seated at 9:40. We ordered the following only to be told that they had run out: Pork Chop, Ozzo Bucco, Chicken liver mousse. That left us with only 2 entree selections to choose from. The roasted chicken which said allow 30 minutes to prepare and the steak with chimichurri which was $57 a la carte for about 6-8 thin slices/medallions. Neither were very tasty. We also ordered several of the pastas/risotto which were perfection. A simple well drink (house vodka with soda) was $13. We also ordered a couple of their specialty drinks. They were about a 2oz total pour. We spent about $400 for 5 people and left so disappointed. Our waiter was apologetic and attentive. We will not be going back. Made us wonder what were going to serve their guest the next day (Sunday) if they were out of everything. The website said they served 5:30 to 11pm. They ran out of food by their 9:15 reservation. Poorly managed and over priced. We drove from San Antonio to Austin to have dinner there and had a bad experience ) :
Juniper has excellent food. We had counter seats this time, which was actually better than the dining room, at least for two people, because you had a great view of everything happening in the kitchen. Almost everything we ordered was incredible—the pasta here is ridiculously good, and the cocktails are fantastic—but we had a couple of problems with our orders: one dish was too salty, and the wine the waiter recommended was a bit vinegary. We mentioned both, but did not complain, and in both cases they tested what we were saying, apologized massively, and took the items off the bill. They also added an extra free dessert. It was great service, added to an already wonderful night. Juniper is a rare restaurant that takes its food seriously, but does not take itself so seriously it cannot admit to and amend mistakes.
Fantastic restaurant. They did a nice tasting menu for our anniversary. A wonderful experience.
The staff was incredible and made our night celebrating a birthday extremely special!!! Thanks for the super service and the extra gift. Y’all are fantastic.
I celebrated my birthday at the restaurant and it was such a special evening. We sat at the counter and it was so much fun watching the time and effort go into each dish.
We will definitely return and cannot wait.
This restaurant has a unique location in Austin,Tx and the food is 5 star chef quality so be prepared for that type of experience. Food is well prepared with Very fresh ingredients the servers are fantastic and the experience needs to be planned for a reservation in advance. Valet parking is available also.
Great modern Italian food in a lively dining room with hip, professional service. Cocktails are excellent and imaginative. Menu is a nice blend of classic Italian with some modern updates. Expensive, but fun and delicious.
Jarvis was witty, congenial, helpful, and attentive. We had a great meal and a wonderful time.
The food and oUr waitress Danielle was exceptional as usual .
Juniper has been a favorite of mine since it opened. It’s, for me, the go-to place for special occasions. This time was new years eve and nothing disappointed. Great wine, food and service. My vegetarian companion also loves Juniper.
Juniper was lovely! Beautiful decor, not too loud and yummy food! Will be back!
Juniper was fantastic as usual. My wife and I have been coming there for several years and it never disappoints--that includes the food and the service. Shannon always takes great care of us and we look forward to our next Juniper experience!
Awesome food and great service. Also playing great music. Overall loved the experience!
Went here for my anniversary. Couldn't have been more pleased with the service. My wife and I were treated like royalty. When we sat down, we were presented with a personalized menu. The waiter brought over two complementary drinks. After dinner, we were treated to a complementary desert. To top things off, they provided us with a care package with a care package as we left with all sorts of goodies. This place really knows how to treat you like you matter. Plus the food is excellent! I will definitely be dining here again.
Honestly one of the best italian meals I've ever eaten in my life. I'm not usually big on italian food, but man, this dining experience changed my mind. We started the meal with chicken liver mousse and meatballs. The chicken liver mousse was delicious, but the meatballs were substantial AND life changing. The most delicious meatballs I've ever had in my entire life. I ordered cacio e pepe and my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti carbonara. Both were absolutely incredible. I couldn't stop myself from ordering dessert, even though we could not finish it. The donuts and cream were also detectible. Amazing meal. The cocktails were great too!
