What Insiders Are Saying
Juniper is a fancy-ish Italian spot in East Austin that's good for dinner with the parents or a grown-up brunch.
I attended with a group and we ordered everything on the menu. The food is spectacular, the waitstaff friendly and informed and the decor attractive. The Cacio e Pepe is particularly incomparable.
Might be my new favorite restaurant in Austin. The food was great, the staff was very friendly, and it had a upscale modern, yet small town feel to it. I really enjoyed it.
I brought a friend who wasn’t familiar with east Austin and Juniper blew her away! We had the burrata, which is the best we had ever had- infused with green garlic. Cacio Pepe with truffles was so yummy and the perfect partner for their fabulous roast chicken. The BEST thing we had, though were the Brussels sprouts ! So many chefs are making them sweet, but these were savory in a mushroomy sauce and sooooo good! A great bottle of wine and we were in heaven.
Extremely overpriced for the meal we had. Would recommend another steakhouse in Austin for a delicious meal. Server should be more upfront about the portion sizes.
We really enjoyed sitting outside and the service was fantastic, but the food disappointed - especially for the price.
The service, food and setting were excellent. Johnny provided great suggestions from the menu with wine pairings and treated us as if we were his only table that night. The pasta in the Cacio e Pepe was perfectly al dente and the redfish was delicious. We enjoyed the evening and will definitely be back.
Great first time
Especially service and dessert
Off the hook. Amazing flavor combination. Herbs from the garden. Great cocktails, an authentic Italian menu
The restaurant is beautiful, the drinks were great, and the food was delicious!
Wonderful and delicious food, prepared and served with obvious care. Everything we ordered was perfectly delicious. The space itself is warm and intimate. Highly recommend the cocktail called This Must Be The Place, the potato puffs appetizer, and the panna cotta for dessert. Highly recommended for a date night dinner in Austin!
We spent our anniversary at Juniper and it couldn’t have been better! The staff all welcomed us and congratulated us on our special day! The service and food were amazing! Highly recommended for any occasion!
We went specifically for Amore Mondays that features some dishes, appetizers, and drinks at happy hour prices. I love that they modeled Amore Mondays for service industry; our entire party was service industry!
We ordered the Puffy Potatoes. They looked liked tater tots and were crunchy with a creamy, cheesy filling. My husband and I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and the bolognese. The Cacio e Pepe was AMAZING, possibly the best pasta I've had in Austin. I still think about that dish. The bolognese was great as well.
I loved the shift drinks; we had the "Zac" which was a pint of Revolver Blood it was super smooth. For $8 this was a great deal.
We sat on the patio and received excellent service throughout our meal. Complimentary valet is available, but we used the parking lot. I will visit again!
My friend and I were staying by Rainey Street, and thought we'd dine there, but it was too obnoxious that evening. We found out about Juniper and went to check it out. The ambiance was perfect--exactly what we wanted. It was comfortable, beautiful, elegant, cool -- doing great business at dinnertime, yet quiet enough to talk.
Johnny, our waiter, was the absolute best--the ultimate professional. In spite of not having been at this particular establishment for very long, he had an amazing knowledge of the menu and the cocktails and wines (exquisite). We really felt like he cared about us and our dinner choices :) , so he's a pro.
Regarding the food, the appetizers were superb, the entrees were good but super-duper salty and I am a salt freak. I know I could have sent back but we were having such a nice time, and as I said, I love salt. Save the saltiness, the pasta was really, really good (Garganelli, I think). The Ribeye was good but not what I really expected for when I splurge on ribeye. I get that's it's super high-grade beef from a wonderful local farm, which I do appreciate, but it was more like two pieces of filet mignon--off the bone and super lean--which is good sometimes but not when you think you're about to enjoy a ribeye.
I had an awesome wine that I took a photo of because I loved it so much--Johnny was amazing at wine recommendations and letting us taste a couple of wines first, and he has sommelier level knowledge.
Juniper is a great name, too. I will visit each time I come!
The restaurant was beautiful and the service was excellent. The complimentary valet and package of caramel corn were a nice touch. Would recommend and plan on going again soon!
Chef Nicholas Yanes is a genius in the kitchen. Once again He have exceeded all of our expectations. My international friends and I were very impressed. This is definitely not your typical Italian restaurant. Unique, modern, authentic and for those individuals who understands that food is like Art.
In a word , horrible. I’ve dined in some of the best and worst restaurants in the world. This place was horrible
The meager portions hardly justified the price. The pasta was very underdone. The stale excuse for bread tasted like the remnants of matchlite charcoal
Never again will I darken their door. I will encourage anyone to never go there.
Fantastic food and cocktails, great service-- all to be expected. What was surprising is that, unlike most restaurants, they had the music at a very nice level where we could actually converse and listen to the music. Very unusual these days, but BRAVO!
Left amazed, simply
The front and the back of the house were working in sync to ensure the level of service was high, but most importantly, the food came out perfectly executed, it truly was a little heaven on a plate
Nicely laid out, my date had never been here. The food was really good. Well explained and described in terms of what the courses were from our wait staff. Friendly and good food overall
Server was very thoughtful, personable, and helpful. Drinks were also good. But food was underwhelming. Especially for the price. I ordered a pasta and my boyfriend ordered the steak. Everything was aesthetically appealing but really seemed to lack flavor.
Superb food and excellent decor/ ambience. Service, however, is well-below par for a restaurant of their quality and price point. Extremely slow service and inattentive waitstaff, and this was on a Sunday evening where the place was only half full. (Note: our food arrived soon after ordering, so this is clearly a front-of-the-house problem, rather an issue in the kitchen.)
Fantastic Italian food with friendly service that went above and beyond our expectations. Beautiful modern space to enjoy some great food & drinks. Waitress offered to replace a drink she recognized I was drinking slowly and the staff provided us with a custom note on the menu to celebrate our anniversary.
Tried too hard and came up short. at least that menu was completely overrated. Fancy named ingredients on a menu do not make a fine dining experience. There is an expectation of great food, presentation and service (although I enjoyed the building itself) however I went to soto the very next night and instead of trying to be good at a rotating complicated menu they are good at what they do and it shows. it was nice but, meh' I'll skip it in favor of another choice in the future.
I loved the concept at Juniper. Great ambiance. The food was great, but was not worth the price. My least favorite part was the service. With how the restaurant is laid out, the servers station was right behind our table. We continuously heard servers speak about their tables, with the assumption guest could not hear. Being in the service industry myself, this was upsetting. I am sure this is not always the case as I have heard great comments about Juniper prior to my experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience there, and the restaurant went out of their way to do a few special things for two members of our party who were celebrating birthdays. Michael our server was very attentive and informative. My only wish was that the music had not been at the higher volume level and perhaps a little less energetic, but that is just a person preference. I would definitely return and encourage others to do so.
Again, a top notch dining experience. Their cacio e pepe has become my go-to comfort food when I want to splurge on a nice night out. Great cocktails as always and very friendly staff.
Dining at Juniper is always an experience! I love to be seated at the counter where you get a great view of all that is going on in preparing your meal. The staff always has great suggestions on what is new, how many dishes are appropriate for the size of your party, and what wines pair well with the courses. And their sense of timing on the course presentation is impeccable. The food is fresh, delicious and flavorful.
Fantastic little urban spot. Will come again!
Whether for drinks with a friend at the bar, a third date, or dinner with family, Juniper never ever disappoints. Best negroni in town, and those deserts are out of this world. Also the service is always friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and prompt!
We made a reservation online, with no option to add that we would need a high chair for our 16 month old daughter. When we arrived, the hostess seemed less than thrilled our daughter was with us. Making a comment that we didn’t make it known we would need a high chair. We asked to sit on patio, but she said the tables were reserved (understandable, but our whole dinner no one ever ended up occupying the tables). She proceeded to seat us, but told us there was no room for a high chair...there definitely was.
The waiter was the only saving grace, he was very kind but at the same time told us “he would make the meal fast” which we never requested, it seemed they didn’t want us there with our baby.
The cocktails were good.
The food was terrible.
The ravioli under cook.
The carbonara severally over cooked, and way too much pasta water left in the dish.
The Burrata flavorless except incredibly over salted.
Every single dish, was horribly over salted, as if salt had just been dumped on top.
It was a less than enjoyable experience.
Staff, food and cocktails all incredible.
Amazing value for the standard of food and surroundings
Wow! Incredible experience from start to finish. My husband and I went here for my birthday and they printed a happy birthday message personalized to me on the menu! The food was amazing, so authentic and each dish well thought out and delicious. Not only were we sold on making this our new date night spot from the food alone but then our server brought out the most adorable gift box for my birthday at the end of the meal. I just can’t belive how special they made me feel and we will absolutely be back and HIGHLY recommend for any special occasion! Danielle, our server, was the icing on top of the cake!
great evening - pleased beyond expectations...fab food and service - beautiful surroundings -- moderate tolerable noise level. Will go again..
Food and service was great however, the least expensive bottle of red wine was $50 and jumped substantially higher from there. I think it's outrageous to pretend that there aren't decent bottles of wine at a more affordable price. I felt gouged by that one aspect of our experience and it would keep me from going back
Food’s good but the wait staff have a I’m too cool for you attitude. Like really, they need to take it down a couple of. notches. If you want great Italian and amazing service check out L’oca D’oro in the Mueller area.
Zack Knight and Michael Z , the valet attendant who escorted us to the host desk, plus the two hostess were superb! Was pleasantly surprised with the meal and the service! Thank you for just making it a great night. Will be back 1000%
I've been wanting to try Juniper for quite a while and finally we were able to get a table. It was definitely worth the wait. The food was fantastic, order the puffy potatoes, service was great and we could actually hear each other talk. I would recommend it for a special night out. Enjoy!
We were there with our 5 year old son. He loved the meatballs. Our meals were spectacular too. The mushrooms in my risotto had a wonderful taste. My husband who is French and is hard to please, loved his meal too.
Set at counter, served by Mark -- Cocktails and food were really good. Mark's service was spot on.
Great service! Great food!
