Juniper & Ivy Ratings and Reviews
So...this is unfortunate. Probably my favorite place in town but 3 of us got sick after. The only thing we all ate was the smoked biscuit starter. And the food just didn’t taste as good as usual. So disappointed because I love this place. But service was off the charts. So good that I would go back. But probably just for drinks and dessert.
Fabulous meal! Sat at chef's table. Kitchen staff appeared well organized and unhurried. Table staff friendly, informative and offered great plate suggestions. Would definitely return there our next trip to San Diego. My wife purchased Chef Blais' cookbooks for her birthday!
If you like eclectic food with "different" sauces and odd items............along with small expensive appetizers and small plates........few options for entree, this might be for you. It was not for me. The food appeared very nicely prepared. My guest (who are eclectic) said that it all tasted good...................it just was not for me.
If you're a meat and potato's type person, this is NOT for you.
Food and atmosphere were excellent. Yes it’s expensive but well worth what you get. It’s always great to try several small plates and share to experience the different cuisines offered. My only complaint was that our server seemed to have his own agenda regarding our dining experience and it’s pacing including dropping the check seconds after we received our dessert. Not something I would expect at this level of dining.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We arrived early to have a cocktail at the bar and the hostess came to find us to seat us a few minutes before our reservation time. The food was very good and each dish was uniquely prepared. We ended up splitting several dishes in order to try more. The portions were small, but all very tasty and they brought us a special treat at the end for his celebration.
Came here for an anniversary. Received a confirmation call where they asked if there was anything they could do, so I was able to reiterate it was an anniversary meal - they made the most of that!
First off, excellent, excellent food selections. We loved sharing several small plates that ranged from unique preparations (smoked salmon that arrived covered in a glass bowl filled with smoke) to solid pastas (mushroom orecchiette). The scallop was the topmost highlight, but not a single dish out of the six we tried disappointed.
Great service all night, including the complimentary champagne and complimentary dessert (an awesome take on a creamsicle).
We also tried a few cocktails (Sazerac and Lost in Translation were awesome), which were well-crafted, and the Yodel is a must.
Believe the total meal price was right on (if anything, it was slightly lower than anticipated).
You will spend a bundle, and it will be memorable and delicious.
Everything about Juniper and Ivy is excellent. From the front desk greeting and seating placement (sat at chefs counter - highly recommend), to the server who wa a excellent and attentive and then the tastings were excellent. I guess the only negative this is we had to leave, dinner was over lol. We tried a healthy variety of items and each stood on its own. Look forward to heading back to San Diego just to enjoy Juniper and Ivy. ps. Was at Lark in Santa Barbara the prior night and Lark was such a boring dining experience compared to Juniper and Ivy.
I really want to praise J&I but then I have an experience like this one and it takes three steps back. Service was poor for a TGIFridays, much less for a restaurant where you easily spend $100 per person. The waiter didn't seem at all interested in making it an enjoyable experience -- basically acting like just being there should be enough. Despite the fact that it was a birthday meal (and seeing birthday "treats" come out for another table), the waiter did nothing. It isn't that it is expected, but seeing another waiter do something for his/her table and this waiter do nothing.... weird.
The food was good -- the amuse-bouche was great -- and I am a huge fan of the yodel dessert.
Disappointing to say the least.
We chose juniper and ivy for our 30th anniversary and had such a special experience with food, service and ambience. The food was amazing, creative and delicious. As a gluten free dairy free "eater", I was not limited, did not have to ask for substitutions and had a great dining experience.
