Juniper & Ivy

Amazing meal and phenomenal service. I was astounded at the unique menu options and loved all the interesting small bites!
It’s still great after all these years!
We live in Milwaukee, WI and Juniper and Ivy is always a must do while are in San Diego. It has never disappointed. Already looking forward to our next trip.
A true dining experience. We shared 8 small plates; we can't choose a favorite. Each was superb.
My sister in law Kate and her partner and our niece are in town from New England for her birthday and wanted a really nice dinner. My husband and I in unison said Juniper & Ivy. Dave was our server and was phenomenal. Kate has severe celiacs disease and Dave was so knowledgeable and made sure no gluten or cross contamination would be an issue.
There were TONS of GF options and everything was insanely good. The wine was fantastic and my husbands Old Fashion was one of the best he’s had. Collectively we ordered probably half the small plates menu and several small bites, some items we ordered a second round of. And then the whole duck. To die for.
Everything about our experience was flawless.. And then to top off the evening Dave brought out house made dark chocolates with a candle.
It was truly a special occasion and the Juniper & Ivy crew really put the cherry on top of a beautiful week and birthday celebration.
Thank you Dave and all the juniper & ivy team for being so awesome!
We are all stuffed and so satisfied
An epicurean delight! My advice is to be adventurous and try somethings you probably cannot get anywhere else. We had an amazing meal and made the most of our waiter's knowledge of the food and dishes. We cannot wait to go back!
The food was great, and the wine we selected was delicious. Service was a little "too attentive" kind of wanted a more leisurely experience with an old friend.
EXCELENT AS ALWAYS
The food is outstanding. Very unique, creative and delicious
Food was creative but not enough fresh crunch to contrast the chewy duck and chewy venison
I’ve been wanting to try J&I since they opened so we took our daughter and bf here for dinner. The dinner was good! But...I wasn’t blown away by anything. They do serve bread but if you ask for more they charge you 🙄. We had the tuna (good), corn dog (mushy), the tartare (good), and the sturgeon (good). The small plates we had artichokes and broccolini. Both good but pricey. The biscuit was yummy! My husband and the bf split the ribeye for two. That was great...the onion rings were salted well but greasy. The mushrooms were delicious. I had the black cod which was good. My daughter had a vegetarian risotto which was good. It took our waiter a long time in between plates to check in on us and my ordinary old fashioned took about 20 min after I ordered (they weren’t that busy). Overall we enjoyed our experience but I’m not in any rush to go back and drop another $450. Oh ya, and get the yodel for dessert! That was yum!
The food was incredible. The flavors of each ingredient in my sea bass stood out and the fish was cooked to perfection as was the lamb tenderloin my husband ate. Staff was knowledgeable and made good recommendations. The restaurant was a little noisy for my husband who has hearing loss but the staff accommodated our request for a quieter spot. I would return on any visit to a San Diego and recommend to friends. We loved seeing the the food prep in the kitchen. Top notch and professional.
Pricey, but the value for exchange is not disappointing. It's a special occasion place for us, and we're never disappointed. Oh My Goodness... their Cheeseburger! Hard to imagine. Have to experience it.
Excellent food! Enjoyed every bite!!
Very good! But took too longgggggggg
Food was good but the service is what made the experience exceptional. They checked our bags when we walked in, they allowed us to select a table we wanted, and they sent over a small drink when there was a slight delay in the one we ordered. Will definitely come back if ever in San Diego again.
Overall disappointed and would not recommend to anyone. Waitress was very pushy with small plates and apps. Waitress was very fast during interactions and forgot a straw after we asked. We asked the waiter assistant to get the straw. Food was mediocre and relied on the seasoning too much for flavor.
We had to go up to the bar once and flag down a bus boy twice to get service.
It took 30 mins after ordering before our drinks arrived. Our server (Sam) disappeared after our second course with no explanation. We had very long stretches where are finished plates just sat in front of us before any level of service arrived.
This was her favorite spot in SD based on a visit 7 years ago. She was incredibly disappointed. We will not return.
Came to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday based on the rating as best fancy restaurant by San Diego Magazine. While I do enjoy the price fixe menu, I do not typically like Valentine’s Day menus as they are generally just too much - too much food forced by a high price point. I don’t think that most people can eat that much food and would appreciate a 3-course menu at a lower price point rather than 4 courses. Since my husband’s birthday fell on the weekend, we had to do the prix fixe. The halibut appetizer was refreshing and inventive. My husband also liked the scallop dish with the peas. We did also enjoy the entrees, filet and wheat berry risotto, the meat was tender and the risotto had great flavor. The desserts, however, were disappointing - we barely touched them. Both the cookie on the peanut butter cream dish and the choice pastry on the strawberry dish were slightly stale/soggy, I feel that they should’ve had more crisp. The cream in both desserts was just too much as a ratio to the pastry/cookie, and the crumble was strange and too sugary. Overall, the desserts were underwhelming and had too much going on. The portions were also just too large after such a large meal. Sadly, the rest of the meal was good and the service excellent so to have the dessert be such a letdown was disappointing. Appreciated the birthday brownie cookie Oreo.
We enjoyed everything we ate here! The drinks were great as well and our favorite was the OC with the in laws. The pork belly with Brussels sprouts were delicious and I really really loved the beef taretare. We will definitely be back!
We loved it
Everything was wonderful. I think the time between courses can be shorter, but other than that it was a fantastic experience.
Great Prix Fix menu for Valentine’s Day. Great service. Pricey
Ate at the kitchen bar seats. Great show by the talented chefs of Juniper and Ivy. They drive high quality and attention to detail so that every dish meets their high standards. We loved every dish, but the desserts were not to die for like the rest of the dining experience. Highly recommend this as a dining option for any night or special occasion.
So enjoyed the meal and business team loved it.
Stop by to try their special/secret burger. The appetizer are very good but small.
both the beef crudo and spot prawn dishes were very good. we were also very excited about the half bottle of ruinart rose
Server was incredible. Food excellent. Would highly recommend
This restaurant is AMAZING.
Very nice restaurant. The food was very fresh & not run of the mill. Sharing plates was encouraged. It was my birthday, so I got a special dessert and both my husband and myself were given a flute of sparkling rose. Great service also.
Hands down the BEST dining experience we’ve ever had. Twice we’ve been now, and twice we’ve been lucky enough to be seated in Saul’s service. He’s not a waiter, he’s the most cultured and well-versed tour guide leading you plate-by-plate into new lands all while detailing each stop on the way. His culinary and historical knowledge is fascinating and it’s obvious he has a true passion for what he does.
Ask for the “Food of the House” and he’ll select a full menu for you, typically ranging in price from $60-80pp. If needed you can reign him in a bit with dietary restrictions like gluten free/no pork. Each dish is a wonderful surprise and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve been on a long, relaxing vacation.
A dinner requirement every time we are in San Diego!!!
Was really looking forward to sampling this much talked about joint. Unfortunately the flavours just don't measure up. There was always a lack of balance with too much sweetness in many dishes or other flavors (smoke in fried rice) that was just overpowering. For the price point, it just didnt seem justified.
We're big fans of Richard Blais so it's no surprise we love his restaurants. We've been to Juniper & Ivy several times and are never disappointed. Our favorite part of the evening is talking with our server about what's new on the menu, what's interesting and worth a try, etc. Often I am pushed outside my comfort zone to try new things, which is always fun. The sommelier is also very knowledgable and was patient introducing us to a few different wines before we finally picked one (it was delicious!) Another great experience - highly recommend!
Every meal we have had at Juniper and Ivy has been spectacular. The service is exceptional, the food has always been perfect and the overall vibe is great for friends, celebrations or just a really delicious meal! Truly one of our most favorite spots in San Diego!
Fantastic food and great cocktails. Phenomenal service.
Great meal, I was in town for a conference at sat at the counter overlooking the open kitchen. I appreciated that they had non-alcoholic options along with Alain Milliat non-alcoholic “wines.” Food was superb and the sturgeon appetizer tastes amazing! Will definitely visit again when I am in town. Menu changes seasonally and there will be different versions of the yodel every so often. The ravilo is another solid small plate.
Love this restaurant. The menu is excellent and never disappoints.
