Pretty fulfilling and excellent every time. Come here on special occasions when we want to indulge.
My husband and I come here while visiting in San Diego. This year it just wasn’t the same as we had remembered. We shared squash gnocchi and it was doughy and didn’t have much flavor. The small plates are small and seemed expensive for what was on the plate. The wine list is expensive also. We will go one more time and hope the range of wine prices is better and we get a little more on the plate
Our son living in Minneapolis was in San Diego recently & ate @ J & I. He highly recommended it to us so my husband & I dined there & loved it.
Great all around. Enjoyable culture, food and experience.
Awesome! Great anniversary dinner. The service was excellent and they went above and beyond to make the evening memorable.
The food was the thing! The waiter was very attentive, but a bit forced.
The creativity, appearance and flavors of the items we ordered were excellent and I will definitely return.
Juniper & Ivy is one of my favorite restaurants, but this visit was subpar. The 4 dishes we ordered (2 fish, 1 pasta, 1 squash) were all too salty, and not nearly as delicious as the plates usually are. Fortunately, the biscuits were up to snuff. Service and cocktails were excellent.
I moved here from San Francisco in February. Juniper and Ivy is equally as good as one of their high end restaurants.
I really enjoyed it.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT AMBIANCE. ALL AROUND A+
Fantastic dining experience! The spot prawns were one of the best dishes I have ever eaten!
Wow! Very exciting and delicious food at Juniper & Ivy! Creative combinations of ingredients to make an exciting sharing meal. Don’t miss the spot prawns and house made sourdough. Al pastor schnitzel? YES! Gnocchi were not clouds I hoped for but yummy duck sausage and baby shiitakes made this dish an umami delight. Excellent wine list with tasty selections from the great grape growing regions of the world. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and love the food.
Great team of wait staff!
Amazing food, brilliant service. A great example of Californian dining
This is my favorite restaurant as of now and since the last time I came here a year ago. The service is always great as well. The flavors are unique, innovative, and combine traditional methods and foods with newer ideas and tastes. I will continue to come here every time I’m in San Diego!
Because I was dining alone, the hostess inquired if I would be interested in sitting at the Chef’s Table, which I was. Unfortunately, I was then seated at a high top table in the bar area. I didn’t say anything, but I was certainly very confused. After putting in my orders for an appetizer and an entree, I was then disappointed and even more confused when my entree came out before my appetizer. I asked my server about it and received a passive excuse that it was because they have are two kitchens. I waited for my appetizer (squash blossom) and once it came and I tried it, it tasted over cooked (or perhaps the oil was overused?), however, the cilantro crema was delightful. Once done and moving on to the entree, while the swordfish was cooked nicely, I found the overall dish to be very salty. Most of the evening was not as good as I expected it would be, but I can say there were two wonderful things about the whole experience - the Bartenders Without Borders cocktail and the Upside Down Apple Cake.
Overall, I was super bummed about the whole experience. I was in town for work earlier this year and couldn’t coordinate time stop in. I’ll admit that while in town again, I was very excited to get time to dine there. I’m certain that both the service and food are usually better, especially when Chef Blais is present, but not eager to return in the near future.
We went for our anniversary and had a great time! Wonderful service, staff, and food!
The food is very tasty, but the portions are extremely small with huge price tags.
I go here every year for my birthday. You cannot beat the fresh daily menu they offer. Everything is worth trying
Let me park in the back for free please. Other than that, I was really impressed by your prawns and corn dog dishes. Would love to try the duck and steaks someday :-)
Food was good but the service was really poor, affecting the whole dinning experience.
The food is very inventive and we shared several of the small plates plus an appetizer. Great wine list too. Only gripe was the appetizer came out in the middle of our small plates. Didn't make that much difference, but if you list something as an appetizer it needs to be served before the other plates.
Didn't leave enough room for dessert, guess it's a reason to go back again.
Unfortunately the sun has set on Juniper and Ivy. Once my go-to favorite for a unique experience, today it is just a mass produced copy of its former self. The waitress was rude, inattentive and even mocked our feedback. She forgot to order the squash blossom and Madeleine, which when they did arrive we’re not pleasant. Oil dripping from the blossom and rancid topping on the Madeleine. The dessert which took 20 minutes to arrive-upside down apple pie was CHILLED. We expected it to be warm after suck a delay. Wow-the garde manger couldn’t keep up?? It was 10pm on a Tuesday and the end of service! Blais should pay attention before JnI goes down in flames🔥
Good was amazing👍 wish we had a better table.
We LOVED our meal at Juniper & Ivy. The chefs attention to detail in every aspect of his food and the new and creative dishes were delicious and a refreshing change from other top spots. The staff...all of them, were exceptional. They all knew the menu thoroughly. They were delightful and helpful in explaining not only the ingredients, but also pointed out some of the finer nuances of the dishes. Love the restaurant vibe and look. We will most definitely be going back o. Our next trip to San Diego. Thank you to the chef, servers and all the staff for treating us to a very special evening.
Great original food. Much enjoyed, will return soon. Would recommend highly.
The food was really good and creative. The service was very good and they gave us a table we wanted rather than one we didn't like without hesitation. It was our anniversary so they gave us some special treats. The only negative was the very high noise level. It was hard to hear someone sitting right next to you. Energetic pretty much sums it up.
The noise level was excruciating
We dined here for our anniversary. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff went above and beyond to treat us for our anniversary!
I've been wanting to go to Richard Blais' restaurant, Juniper & Ivy, since I saw him on BRAVO'S Top Chef, and afterwards he opened this restaurant. I consider myself a foodie, and love trying new and interesting restaurants! OH. MY. GOD. does this place deliver!!! It's right up my alley! New, progressive techniques, and amazing food combinations that you'd never think of!! I'm just sorry I hadn't tried it sooner!!! Richard - keep up the great work!
This place was amazing and an experience we will be talking about over and over. All of the staff from bartenders to waiters to support staff deserve praise.
Food, drinks, presentation, taste and ambience were perfecto!
Food was all amazing! We had already made reservations but Lyft driver also reccomend. Thinking of going again while still here on vacation
The experience was OK. Some food items were fantastic (the spot prawns and the heirloom tomatoes/burrata - deeeeelicious!!) and some were OK, and there was one dish in particular that was inedible (the Rigatoni - soooooooooo bitter!!!!) I wanted to send it back but my boyfriend just powered through it because he just wanted to leave. The dinner took longer than we thought, I wasn't really paying attention to the time but apparently it was a super long dinner and after 2 hours we hadn't even received the last dish we ordered so we had it canceled. The funniest thing was that there was a couple at the table next to us that had also complained about how long their dinner experience was too! I noticed that the manager kept coming up to talk to them; I thought that maybe they were all really good friends, but after they told us about their experience we learned that the manager was actually trying to salvage their dining experience! Lol. The couple also said they sent back 2 dishes to the kitchen. Perhaps we went on a wrong day because the kitchen was off for our tables. What a bummer! I was really looking forward to this meal. I'm willing to give it another shot, but my boyfriend doesn't think he'll ever want to return.
Would not go back
As usual fresh and inventive. Everything was delish, even the cocktails!
Juniper & Ivy has officially finally claimed the title of being my favorite restaurant in San Diego. Our waiter, Saul, was fantastic. He made the overall dining experience a 10 star. He was knowledgable about everything on the menu, provided excellent food recommendations and pairing. I would highly, highly, recommend this restaurant!
