    Love this place. The food is always nicely prepared and rarely something I could make at home. Also like the wine list and that there are half glasses and full glasses as well as a nice list of under $40 bottles. Service is great.

    Business meeting with guest who had never been to the restaurant, thus tried some new items. Amazing all the way around. Everything we had was very good.

    Food was delicious however was disappointed by the lack of due diligence on ensuring there was no gluten in my wife’s meal. She has celiac’s disease and made that clear when we sat. Had to ask several times on whether certain items were gf and tho we were assured by wait staff (didn’t appear they checked with the chef) my wife took a bite on an item that had gluten (was told after the fact). Unfortunately ruined our evening. Food and service otherwise were very good. Would just hope that at a high end restaurant like this there would be more due diligence on a guests food allergies/diseases.

    The bites and smaller plates were well balanced and delicious. Highlights were the hand rolls, Mille fuelle, chicken liver toast, king salmon ceviche/small plate. Portions were bigger than expected which was a nice surprise but left no room to try dessert. Mussels were a let down. Wines were excellent. Anniversary dinner and they were very attentive to that, accommodating indoor table with manager coming by to wish happy anniversary.

    My wife and I got mocktails for drinks, my wife got a berry mocktail, and I got a citrus mocktail. We ordered the yellowtail tostada, strawberries and burrata salad, carne cruda asada tartare, seared bonito, and halibut as our entree. We also ordered the tiramisu yodel and passionfruit chocolate tart for dessert. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious.

    They have 5 menu categories of food - from Bites to Dessert. My wife and I shared one from each category with the main and dessert clearly labeled for two people. She had two cocktails; I had two beers. We also received a complementary glass of sparkling wine each as it was our anniversary. We were stuffed by the end of it. $200 before tip. Pretty good!

    I went for Mother's Day and the food was very good but also fairly expensive. Enjoyed the meal but $100 a person (with drinks and tips) is a bit much.

    Found out they only serve brunch twice a year. The ambiance feels different than at dinner time but you can appreciate the decor of it much more during the day. Service was great and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals.

    The food was amazing. Especially the tiramisu dessert. However, the hosts need some training on service protocols. We were told to wait in the bar for our table even though we had a reservation. The bartender rudely told us we couldn’t sit in a particular place. We go back to the hosts, and they tell us that we have to sit in a particular couch area that we soon found was completely full. It’s not a good first impression to be bounced back and told no by a bartender. So we stood there a while. Fortunately a table opened up, but the whole greeting process was kind of silly.  Our server was phenomenal though. food made up for it.

    Menu is kind of weird and not anything like what's listed online. They were out of almost half of the entree items. And most of the remaining ones required 30-45 minute cook time. It's a beautiful space and the service was OK. Might come back and just have drinks at the bar. But overall not a great experience. Especially for the cost.

    The first time we went to J&I, we were very disappointed with the quality of the food, every item was either bland, undercooked, and had excessive salt and I reviewed a very negative review on Yelp. A year later I decided to try again after a promising response from the management and we were not disappointed. This time 'round, the Bites and Plates were all prepared well and the flavors were clean.

    The restaurant lives up to the 5-star reviews with the food excellent and the service top notch. We sat near the bar and would have preferred something more private. Would certainly return.

    This restaurant came highly recommended as a Michelin star. We took the last reservations they had available at 9pm (they closed at 10pm). The very nice waiter gave great service but it was extremely rushed. It seemed as if he was trying to get us out as quickly as possible. The food was marginal. Some of the entrees were good but some were really bad. The egg yolk ravioli was not adequately described in the menu. It was basically raw egg yolk and mashed potatoes inside of an enclosed ravioli pasta shell. It was pretty awful. Also, the appetizers all had raw fish, which was not disclosed. Lastly, the low flying airplanes were pretty loud and distracting while dining outside.

    Server and dessert chef are both super friendly and attentive! Food are great as always. Love the halibut handroll most, the hint of orange is very refreshing. The squid ink gnocchi is great but a little bit salty. Have been here a few times over the years, one thing I noticed of the menu is it is more and more like Italian/mMexican/American, making it hard to standout from other restaurants in SD. I first fell in love with juniper and ivy back in early 2020, when the menu had much more variety, more Chinese/Japanese inspired small plates, and the flavor was a balanced savory from meat/fish and sour sweet from fresh veggie and fruits, such as pork belly and cured trout, than today’s salty and savory only taste for meat courses. all in all, still a great place to eat!

    The restaurant is just fine. The ambiance isn’t sensational, the design and decor is fine. The bigger issue is the menu. They source their items from local farms, which is great, but this leads to the immediate problem of menu shortage. You can look online for a dish and be excited to try it, only to get there and find out it’s not available. Their limited supply and rotating menu may be a fun quirk, for some, but I’d rather get what I want.

    Parking: As expected (this goes for almost all spots downtown and in Little Italy), free parking does not exist anymore, street parking is a nightmare and valet or lot parking is, of course, expensive. Restaurant: The building's facade is somewhat non-descript, but the interior was upscale modern and lent itself to a nice ambiance. The up-front staff was welcoming. Food: Presentation was very nice. Quality, taste/flavor, preparation were very good (I ordered the Alaskan halibut). My major complaint, unfortunately, seems to be a common theme now among upscale restaurants : pathetically small portion size. The entrees were the size of what could only pass in the past as an hor douvre. My friend and I laughed with disbelief at the ridiculously small portions. Definitely not worth the price. Sadly, most businesses have used the EXCUSE of inflation as a pretense to raise prices well above the rate of inflation or to raise prices by the stealth method of keeping the price the same and reducing the quantity sold. And of course, there is an almost 4% surcharge tacked on to the bill, which is noted on the menu (this done only b/c a city ordinance passed requiring restaurants to notify customers, not b/c the restaurants themselves joyfully and voluntarily wanted to inform customers). Bottom line: Good food but way overpriced for the portion size given. Oh, one bright spot: my Old-Fashioned bourbon drink from the bar was excellent - overpriced of course, but excellent.
