We are visiting from Phoenix and took our adult children to dinner to celebrate our visit. We enjoyed the variety of small plate options as we worked through the menu. Our adventure ended in a sweet note as we sampled two of the desserts recommended by Andrew, our server par excellence.
We enjoyed our evening. The drinks and food were a great experience; on par with the best we have had anywhere in the world.
We will recommend J&I to our friends, and will be back when our travels take us to San Diego.
This is a beautiful restaurant. The service was excellent all the way through, and the food was very good - didn't have a bad bite!
Our waiter was exceptional! So much fun!
I've spent the last few years learning to cook. This has really refined my palate. I've learned to taste the subtleties in food and identify qualities in flavor. Juniper and Ivy was beyond all expectation. Every bite make me put my fork down to truly appreciate its taste. No words can do it justice. Between the amazing service and outstanding food, I cannot imagine a better dining experience. Try it for yourself. It'll be worth it.
Just awesome food & service in an interesting atmosphere.
A well priced bottle of champagne and amazing oysters set the stage for a memorable meal. Wow!
We had a wonderful meal 3.14.18. We were pampered by the staff and the food was delish!
Oysters and pearls, Baja Yellow Tail Tostadas, Ahi Tuna Wellington brought wonderful flavors, and an amazing Dessert called a Yodel can’t be missed! Service was amazing.
We had a great meal there. Love the decor as well. I really liked the spicy tuna roll. Served on a leaf!
We had a cute round banquette table.
Amazing service ! Excellent drinks and food!!
Especially the food,it was outstanding. They have a small bites section on be menu and it literally is just that. You get about 1-2 bites but delicious.
Delicious food. Shared lots of small plates to taste multiple things!
Spectacular meal. Every dish was perfect. Great bar scene and interesting cocktail menu. Food was outstanding as was service. Dessert was one of the very best I have ever had!
We finally got to try juniper and ivy this past Saturday night for a joint birthday celebration, and it did not disappoint. We had a fantastic time. The food was very innovative. We ordered a lot of dishes and shared everything. Overall whatever that had fish was excellent. I also enjoyed the lamb dishes and the short rib dish and of course the biscuit. You must try the yodel for dessert, it was to die for. I will definitely come back again. Next time I’ll try to get their vegetarian dishes.
This evening was one of the best dining experiences of my life. We were meeting friends who came in from all over the US and Canada. There were eight of us and we all love to eat out. Most are very adventurous eaters. Four of the eight had eaten a amazing meal at Juniper and Ivy a year before so we thought we knew how great it was. We hadn't even scratched the surface.
After consulting with our server, the wonderful Ryan, we briefly considered the restaurant's "Family Dinner" but as Ryan described it, there were would be more things in the dinner that many of our party could eat due to allergies. He suggested that we tell him our allergies and likes/dislikes and give him a budget and he would take care of us. We loved that idea. We told him what we liked/disliked, gave him a budget of $100 per person (without drinks/wine or tip) and he did us right and Juniper and Ivy proud.
One course after another arrived and we devoured them. Some of the most amazing food I have ever eaten. I especially love the ahi tuna wellington. A truly amazing dish but so were so many of the others we tried. Ryan brought us a variety of appetizers, bites, small plates, large plates and desserts. OMG. What a meal.
The sommelier came by and helped us with wines to match the varied courses and I can say that we all left very full and very amazed at the food, the service and the wonderful atmosphere. We flew all the way from Seattle for this meal and we were NOT disappointed.
Perfect from start to finish. Sat solo at the counter as I was in town for work early and had always wanted to visit a Blais restaurant. Was given suggestions when ordering by several helpful staff and got to watch the kitchen in action. And as for the fold, every plate was better than the next.
Outstanding inventive unique cuisine. Exceptional service and atmosphere. Richard Blaise outdoes himself.
Made us wait over an hour and a half for our reservation.
They tried to make it up with 2 free appetizers which is ridiculous.
Waste of time and experience was stolen from us since they seated us at 5 to 10pm.
I made the reservation a week before since I had friends coming down from Orange County.
Terrible experience and terrible way to resolve the problem.
The place is trendy because it’s new but the food not good. It was ok.... not close to the expectations
The food was delicious, my family and I enjoyed the experience of eating small plates. You could try many different dishes, all were very good!
Amazing experience. Incredible food. One of the best dining experiences anywhere
Service was excellent. We ordered 5 small plates which were all very tasty. Our only minor disappointment was the bbq carrots. We had 4 carrots, two were tender and delicious but the other two were larger carrots and impossible to cut with a knife. We mentioned this to our server and the plate was not included on our bill. We will defiantly come back when we are in San Diego.
Great food in a hip atmosphere!
Had dinner here on a recent visit to San Diego. The format is small plates to share with entrees available. We shared a few plates and split an entrée. The seafood corn dogs were fabulous, and we also really liked the albacore. Everything we tried was interesting and delicious. The wine list is fairly extensive.
The service is very good, delivering food and picking up plates, and our servers were knowledgeable about what they were serving. It was very well run and organized, and the employees seem to be genuinely proud to be working there.
Everything was lovely, especially our server Mazen, he was so friendly, professional and attentive , as were all of his assistants.
Only downside to the whole experience was initial unenthusiastic greeting from hostess stand - all four came across as distracted(by each other) and disinterested (in us). However, in the restaurant business especially, you never know what’s transpired just minutes before, so hoping it was just an off moment for them. Just a heads up tho since first impressions are key.
It was such a great experience and our waiter Matt was personable and just awesome to be around
Spendy, but very creative. Every dish was a new flavor sensation. The meringue egg amuse bouche was clever and tasty. LOved the carpaccio, citrus and burrata salad, pork. Delicious
Wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff is impeccable, food described beautifully each time it was dropped off at the table. The food was outstanding (prawns take my win for the night), perfectly timed courses and we did not feel rushed at all. Overall a fabulous evening!
Everything you would expect. The food is great. The service is great.
50 Anniversary celebration
I love this place! It’s a must every time I am in San Diego. Chef Richard was there this time! He signed my cookbook for me and was a gracious victim of this star-struck fan. The food is always incredible and the staff is top-notch.
Planning to go back because not enough room in my belly to eat everything I wanted. After ordering a couple items from Bites (truly sized as a bite for one) and sharing a couple items from Pastry (app size), I wanted to finish all of my main course but just couldn't do it. The food was really delicious.
Hands down the best meal I have ever had. Oysters were the best Ive ever had, the NY Strip melted in your mouth and the strawberry shortcake dessert was out of this world. Needless to say I was in a complete food coma for the better half of the evening. A++++
Everything was very artfully served, if a few of the dishes were a little underwhelming (still very good though!). The dessert was excellent and a perfect way to end the dining experience. Would definitely recommend trying the restaurant, but will wait to visit again.
We are foodie fans and watch Chef Blais on Food Network and Top Chef. This was by far the best meal I’ve ever had. I’m so glad we chose this restaurant for our 20th wedding anniversary dinner.
Great ambiance, service and delicious food. Started at the bar for wine and cocktails and then moved down to the main floor for dinner. Great staff and amazing decor, highly recommended.
Came for a women's weekend treat with my 4 girlfriends. The food was fabulous, fun, creative, texturally delicious -- spot prawns, yellow tail tostadas, beet salad, yodels....yum! We had fantastic service until about 3/4 the way through when something clearly was going on in the restaurant as many of the servers disappeared. But they regrouped and came back. Loved having executive chef, Richard Blais, come by the table.
I was pretty excited to try Juniper and Ivy as I've never done fine dining in San Diego and the menu looked fantastic. Even though I did have a good time, I would not do it again. I would say only half the dishes I ordered were good. My sister, her boyfriend and myself ordered: 3 bites, 4 small plates, 3 large plates and 1 dessert. Ironically, the free "deviled egg" was probably the best dish we had. Most of the plates were pretty bland or one or two of the ingredients were so overpowering it didn't let the rest come through. I was expecting a lot more from a fine dining establishment. Even if they cut our bill in half it still would not have been worth it in terms of pricing. I will say the platting was very beautiful.
Hostess greeted our party and seated us promptly at a very nice table. We enjoyed the variety & quality of the food. The menu items are creative and flavorful. Recommend using the valet out front, as there was no street parking on a weeknight. Would recommend this trendy eatery!
A taste treat. Like an epicurean experiment in my mouth
A great example of what's good about the recent small plates craze...This restaurant is not only local, seasonal, and fresh, it is extremely creative. The kitchen is thoughtful about the seasonal menu and the= folks behind the bar deserve a shout out, too.
Absolutely loved everything about my dinner here. From the food to the service, to the atmosphere. A must visit and when I'm there next year I'll be back again.
