Very fresh, very good fish and shellfish. My husband and I were pleased!
The food was great! Enjoyed the raw bar. Our entrees were super tasty and appropriately portioned. Dessert and coffee were lovely as well. Howerever, the experience was made by the best server we have had any where in a long time. She was friendly, genuine, and had the perfect balance of checking in on us, and leaving us alone to enjoy our evening and meal.
Always absolutely delicious! We wouldn't come to Portsmouth and not go to Jumpin' Jays. The atmosphere is nice - you can be dressed up or casual - but the food is SO good!! The mussels are better than any others we've had in the area, the seafood is delicious, and the Haddock Piccata and Seafood Mullugatawny Stew (with coconut milk!) are amazing!!
Great birthday dinner for a group of 7. everyone loved their dish! Prices a little steep but fish fresh and portions good.
Once again the service and the food were excellent. We love this restaurant and will return.
Tried to make a reservation but to no avail!
Food was very good, service was excellent, can't remember server's name. I think it was Jeff.
The waitstaff did a nice job and were very knowledgeable about what was and what was not Gluten Free on the menu.
As always a great dinner! Everything was perfect. It's nice that there is a variety of options since my husband and I have different tastes. We can always find something we will both like. And everyone is always so nice and the drinks are pretty good too
Food was kinda of all delivered around the same time
We were very satisfied with our meal. We were there on Shuck-a-Buck night; the oysters were deliciously fresh! Excellent spicy, fried calamari! Friendly, helpful staff and fast service.
If you like consistent, excellent fish, this is the place! And wash it down with one of their super fine martinis. It is as good as it gets.
Delicious seafood dinners. The halibut was excellent and the desserts were fabulous. We love eating at Jay's - one of our favorites on the seacoast.
This was our first visit to Jumpin Jays. I had to eat gluten free and also couldn't eat garlic, onions, apples, etc., because of IBS. The waitress was super friendly and accommodating, and the menu also indicated gluten-free options. My husband and I are definitely "foodies," and the food here was delicious. We ordered calamari (not gluten-free), a salad with bacon marmalade, seafood mullitagawny, swordfish with a great citrus dijon sauce, beer, and wine. Everything was so delicious. I'd highly recommend this restaurant for the food and service.
Always have an excellent experience here. Great to if you are going to a show at the Music Hall just a block away!
Appetizer list was small and rather basic. Fish was expertly prepared and was actually better by itself than with the sauces available. Service was good as well.
Jumpin Jays never disappoints. We have been here many times. The fish is fresh and wonderful. This trip, I had the diver scallops and my wife had the salmon. Excellent spot for dinner before a Music Hall event.
The salads were excellent the desserts were unbelievable but the fish was not a particularly fresh scallops were not particularly fresh for a Saturday night the price point is too high to recommend somebody else
My husband and I had a great dinner the food is excellent and our server was great. A very enjoyable experience, my husband recommends we do this more often. Brenda LaMontagne
Tight seating. Awesome service. Food good. Avg price for fish. Appetizers & desserts more on expensive end. Clam chowder was a disappointment.
Jumpin Jays never disappoints! I've visited a number of times, most recently for a family birthday and we've always had fantastic food and great service. We'll be visiting again!
Best seafood restaurant on the NH Seacoast. This is real seafood, not the fried touristy stuff. Food and service is always excellent at Jay's. I come here frequently, because it is the best
Great food ... excellent service!!
Staff is very attentive but not overly so. Seafood was fresh and a generous portion.
Great blue cheese stuffed olive martinis!
Love the drinks here and the seafood is spectacular. Wish they had even one vegan option on the menu. I ordered the vegetarian scampi and it came with cheese all over it. Kind of a bummer.
Fantastic , fresh local seafood offerings presented with creativity and care in wonderful Portsmouth , doesn't get much better than this, J's is a rare gem !
consistently the finest seafoord, cocktails and service
Excellent food ,great service the staff is very friendly and attentive.
This is our favorite place for special occassions. The seafood is spectacular, but the sauces make it even better!
We have eaten at Jumpin Jays a few times. Our waiter was friendly but not attentive and did not know much about the seafood. He did not tell us the special fish of the day had been sold out for two hours, and that was our first choice. He did not know about the different oyster selections, or the different kinds of port that I wanted as an after dinner drink. He did know his wine, but I think you have to take time with your table and know a lot about seafood when you work in a higher end seafood restaurant. The special parsnip soup with the shrimp/bacon fritter was incredible! The clams and linguine was one of the worst I have ever eaten. They put 3 clams in their shell on the top of the dish and the rest was minced canned clams in a very strong and sweet onion/garlic cream sauce. Even our little Italian restauran,t in our home town ,gives you a dozen littlenecks in the shell and not minced clams. The Haddock piccata was okay. When the waiter appeared for the dessert option, I had to call him back to ask him about an after dinner drink. While we were starting our dessert he brought the check and told us to take our time. I think for the money you should never feel rushed and/or ignored at the same time. It was only 8:45 on a Saturday night so I don't know why he would have been in a rush. Finally, my daughter had stomach pains, etc. in the middle of the night and was fine in the morning. The only thing we didn't try equally was the raw tuna Poke. My daughter is 21 and has an extremely strong immune system so she was really surprised to have this happen.
Jumpin Jay's is consistently good. The food is beautifully presented and is fresh and delicious. It is always my first choice when dining in Portsmouth!
The appetizers were so intriguing that i opted to have two instead of an entree. I had: The Tuna Poke and The Fried Oysters. Both were truly memorable taste experiences that were beautifully prepared and presented. My brother had the scallops (his favorite) and said they were great. Service was terrific.
Definitely worth the one-hour drive through a rainstorm to get there!
frequent flyer always the best love this place food awesome and the staff is always ready to help
EVERYTHING was fantastic! Crab cake appetizer had a melding of wonderful flavors. The Haddock Picatta is always incredible!!! AND it is served with a vegetable that of course is perfectly cooked. Our other entree was Shrimp Scampi also excellent! Desert was a delightful combination of maple ice cream with granola and a Carmel sauce.
NYC quality meal in quaint Portsmouth. Seriously, don't miss this place. Chowder-rich and bacon smokey. Haddock Picatta perfect, linguine w clams - how they got that perfect combo of citrus essence and creaminess I'll never know. Excellent all around. We're from Boston, and we will make the trip again.
This was my fiancé and I's first time to Jumpin Jay's, and we were more than satisfied! The ambiance was incredible; so quite in the restaurant, the lighting was romantic, and the food was incredible. You guys out did our baby-free date, for sure.
Also, the meal prices were very reasonable! We had drinks, an appetizer, 2 meals, and shared a dessert for under $100!
We will definitely be coming back and recommending to our friends :)
Food here is always fantastic, the beer selection needs work but they have a large variety of wines to choose from. They were really busy this past visit so the food took quite a while to get to our table but the waiter was quick to come by our table as soon as we finished a drink.
Price is reasonable for the great quality of food. Will continue to be one of my preferred restaraunts of Portsmouth
I had Valentines dinner here. I had a 7:45 reservation and was still waiting for a table at 8:30. Just before i got up to remind the hostess i was still waiting i saw her pick up her phone to give a table to 2 friends who were coming in. Not good customer service. Food was good but not worth the amount I paid. Very disappointed. Will not return.
Valentine's Day meal was terrific, we usually sit at the bar but tonight went for a reservation and table for 2!
Great restaurant with great selections on the menu. Food was really good. Everyone was friendly and upbeat. It's always busy, may want to make a reservation before you go.
Best fish dinner ever!! The Halibut and Yellow Fin Tuna were amazing to the last bite!
