Jules Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Went for Sat brunch. Only 2 tables occupied inside the restaurant (outside tables were full), and the music was so loud that the waiter could not hear our order, and we couldn't hear each other talk. Other than that, the food was pretty good and it was easy to get to.
We were looking forward to hearing the Live Jazz group and having some good French food. The space itself is unsuited to having that many people crammed in at the bar and squashed into the table area. It was uncomfortable and way way too noisy to even hear the excellent group even though they were miked! The food was good and well prepared, but on the expensive side. The service was very good, but at points it was difficult to find our waiter to add to our order or get our check. It was unfortunately not a relaxing experience. The noise level was so excessive, it made conversation amongst ourselves almost impossible. Suggestions have been given to the restaurant by band members and other people, but clearly this is not a priority for the restaurant. We will not be back.
My husband and I dined at Jules on a Sunday night. We started out on their lovely patio and after dinner moved inside so we can see the band. The three-piece jazz band played the old classics and it was really enjoyable. The wait staff was really attentive and pleasant to interact with. We will be back.
Always loved Jules Bistro as a go to prior to an evening over at the Public. Food is reliably good and the wait staff friendly and helpful. Early dining options give one the luxury of a quiet room with just the sounds of the local jazz combo playing in the back round. If you enjoy steak frites, moules frites, duck confit or any other typical bistro dishes go. You won't be disappointed.
Service was quick and friendly. Live band was great. Combination of good food, great service made for pretty good experience.
On the down side,it wad super hot in their, not sure if A/c was out of service but the the exception of that, i will definitely be back.
If French food and live jazz in an inviting cozy atmosphere make you happy, you will love Jules. The band is not too loud, the talking throughout the room offers background ambience without intruding on your own conversation. Food was delish, tho not mind blowing. Everyone enjoyed their meal. If you want protein, veg, carbs, you will want to order a side dish - the organic salmon came with asparagus, no other side dish, while the tender hangar steak came with a delicious risotto, but no veg. We were too full to order desert, tho the selection was enticing.
We arrived and there was only one waiter in the entire place. We it took about 10 minutes to be seated since there was no hostess. Finally some more wait staff showed up after we had been trying to get our order taken for a while. He was nice and gave my mom a mimosa on the house. The female singer was awful! The man who sang with her was amazing though. His mic kept getting static feedback but he was honestly the best. But we couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Pleasant evening, above average food, only 1 waiter and 1 bus boy for the entire restaurant, so I would say service is lacking, they put on the bill for 2 glass of white for 88.00! so be careful to check your check carefully.
Music is pleasant, but they got the "Chicken cordon blue" all wrong, its more like sautéed chicken in brown sauce, would not recommend this dish at all.
We visited Jules on a Bluesy Tuesday, with Adrian Di Matteo & friends on stage. The service was excellent, the food was great and the music was outstanding. If you are on the lookout for a cozy jazz or blues café in New York's East Village, then Jules Bistro is definitely worth visiting.
Found Jules on OpenTable and liked the French bistro menu so I made a reservation for dinner. We were seated on time in fairly cramped quarters but once seated we were pretty comfortable. We ordered four appetizers and four entrees and shared them - all very good. The fois gras mousse was light and delicious. The hangar steak tender and the duck breast cooked just right. The truffled mac n cheese was decadent and yummy. One member of our party owns three successful restaurants in Massachusetts and he was very happy with every dish. And a big plus was the live jazz combo. The music was smooth and pleasant and we could still enjoy our conversation. This is a wonderful little restaurant.
Hostess on Valentines Day was terrible. We made reservation for jazz. There are many tables available, but she put us in a corner without reservation card that we couldn't even see the stage. Then She lied to us that she would move us. She eventually never came back. Very bad liar!
One of our favorites. I was surprised at how the foie gras was so thin...I like a firmer, almost pate-like foie gras. But, the taste was nice. Could have used a little more bread and marmalade with it. Burger was great. Chicken dish was juicy. Will definitely return...but would do so quicker if they had spirits. Lover that they take all credit cards (except Discover) now.
Jules Bistro is an underrated East Village find. Jules serves very good French food at relatively low (for NYC) prices. There is no cover charge to get in despite the live jazz each night of the week. Jules has a great atmosphere for a romantic dinner or get-together with friends who enjoy jazz.
