Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Our second visit. We were in town last Christmas and remembered a great meal, so we came back for round two. It did not disappoint! Oysters :) excellent. Tomato carpaccio - creative and tasty Trout - fantastic! Great cocktails, great service. Can’t wait to return!

The food was truly magnificent! We were there the weekend of July 4, so it was crowded! The bar was full, and so were the dining areas. This made drink service a little on the slow side, which is why I gave 4 stars for service instead of 5. My friend and I split the oyster appetizer and the chicken liver mousse for our dinner. Both were fabulous. My husband had the Tavern steak which was cooked to perfection, and was as flavorful as could be. My friend's husband had the chicken which he raved about. This was our second trip to Judith, and we intend to eat here whenever we are in town.

We were visiting the area for golf, and Judith was recommended to us. It blew us away. The food, the presentations, the service, the ambience were all 5 stars. This restaurant is a destination itself. Loved it. We will go back to that area just to eat there.

I took my wife, Judith, to dinner at Judith for her birthday. We both agree it was one of the best meals we have ever had and Maren, I hope I spelled it correctly, was phenomenal! Even though we live in Nashville and Judith is about 90 miles from our house we are planning on returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu. We highly recommend Judith!

I really enjoyed my first visit to Judith. The wine was excellent, very impressed with the choices in a town like Sewanee. The atmosphere was laid-back and professional. My salad was delicious, green tomato carpaccio. The only negative part to the evening was the pork collar. It was a very unappetizing cut of meat for me. Based on the description from the server, I was expecting something more like pork tenderloin, and it was much more tough and chewy.

Awesome food, eclectic atmosphere, great service...a perfect addition to Monteagle Mountain. Usually we have to drive to Nashville for a meal like that. Will definitely go back again soon.
