Jubilee 1st Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Had a 730 reservation for 2 on a Sunday night which I made the evening before. I tried to change it the day of to three but they weren’t accommodating at all. They told me they could seat me an hour later to change but i couldn’t do it. Then 5 minutes before, they told me they could do a half hour before... again not good for us. Then we ended up waiting a while for our table. I live in the neighborhood and like the food a lot but would think twice about choosing them as far as their lack of flexibility.. it was only a one person change.
We had a wonderful time, service was great, dinner & dessert were delicious!!
Nice atmosphere, appetizers were delicious...we had fish soup, onion soup and the pate.
All recommended! Scallops over orzo , the ravioli, and steak...all perfect!
The carrot cake was as well, very very good.
Very nice place with good food friendly service, the only reason I didn't give 5-stars is because this is just below the level of the snobby ones in the area of decor, ambiance, and service. The food portions are generous, well dressed, and excellent tasting.
LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!!! An all time nyc fav. First time having pre theater....they had us in and out, great value, ceasar salad disappointing but steak frites and moules delicious as well as profiteroles. Outstanding service!!! One of my all time favorites!!
This is our go-to neighborhood favorite. We have spent the last 5 New Years Eves here as well. The food is consistently delicious and the service attentive. My only suggestion is to play a selection of music that is more in keeping with a quiet dining experience.
The only rub was they were sticklers for the pre-fixe time expiration of 6:30. We were 5 minutes late to place the dinner order (we had our drinks inside the pre-fixe window), and our delay was in part due to some extraordinary circumstances; however, they wouldn't budge. But for other matters the service went beyond the norm. The place was not full yet either. Perhaps someone should talk to the kitchen.
Otherwise, fine place, we'll be going back.
Somewhat of an institution in a city losing both its moderate and deluxe French offerings. While not truly a French bistro nor deluxe dining Jubilee fits into a unique niche of comfort French. A diverse menu yet of you are a fan of mussels, this is the place to visit. Other items include French classics as well as cafe' fare. For those who may wish to try and save a few $, consider visiting before 6:30P for the 2-course prix-fixe for $31, by NYC standards a good value.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here on a Friday night. The restaurant was full but not loud, nor were the tables crowded together. It is in Midtown East in the Sutton Place neighbirhood and seemed to have many regulars dining there....we will certainly be back!! There is a prix fixe option which we did not choose; it seemed quite extensive but I believe it might have had time limitations....check with the restaurant if this is of interest. We ordered a la carte and the prices were very reasonable. My husband especially enjoyed the fois gras appetizer. We also had the escargot which were very good, and I had the beet salad which was fresh and crisp without being drowned in dressing. For our entrees we had the beef tartare and the scallops and then chocolate molten cake for a decadent finish to a great meal. The service was superb, and the atmosphere was perfect and cozy, but tables were situated so you didn't feel like you were sharing your personal space or conversation with the neighboring table. We had a very nice evening and will definitely return!!
I wanted to find a neighborhood French place as I remembered from my childhood to take my family to in NYC and Jubilee fit that to a T. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The only reason I did not give a “five stars” is because IMHO, the portions were too big. I know that the Chef probably did that after his own soul-searching and to please modern day Americans but I am Old School. Leave the large portions to Asian (non-Japanese) and American restaurants please! I would like to know that if I go to a Japanese or a French restaurant that I will be satisfied with flavors and presentations and not overwhelmed with portion size.
Jubilee is an anachronism - a neighborhood gem with excellent food and service. On Sundays & Mondays they even offer the pre-theater Prix Fixe menu until closing which is a real bargain. If you like mussels, I'm not sure there's a better place in New York. All in all, one of my favorites.
